All Lacquered Up Turns One
One year ago on this very day, I was doing an online search for images and info about upcoming polish collections when the idea to start this blog hit me. I love the MUA nail board, they are super sleuths when it comes to nail news but, the board search function sucks. Try searching for posts about the China Glaze X collection and you’ll see what I mean.
So in essence, All Lacquered Up started as a holding ground for my NOTD and product swatch images, nail related articles and links and upcoming collection information. I never could have imagined that it would get so much attention and love.
I can’t begin to express how much the support of the nail board community, my fellow bloggers and every one of you means to me. Thank you for making my first year blogging incredibly fulfilling. I hope that year two will be even better.
I started this site with my nail resolutions and dreams and I will continue the tradition today. A few of them even came true so I hope that by putting my wishes out into the universe, they will somehow materialize.
- China Glaze will re-release the Wizard of Ooh Ahz collection and add a sparkly green called Emerald City.
- OPI will follow MAC’s lead and do an Originals-like “best of” collection. My picks for included shades: Rainforest, Jasper Jade, Black Magic Mountain, La Boheme, Black Tie Optional, Hollywood & Wine, Tucumcari Boys N Berry, Vampire State Building, Eat’n Eggplant, Yankee Pankee Plum, Pluto Plum and Galactic Spice. Please OPI, bring these beauties back and help stop the Ebay scalpers from banking on our love for these gorgeous shades.
- That I will find a way to embrace the sheers that will be popular this spring.
- A major salon brand will produce an emerald green holo.
- The new Big 3 Free formulas will continue to improve and be less thick and goopy.
- I will take the time to actually wear more of the polish that I’m constantly swatching.
- That the “almost black” madness will end. I love the dark blues, greens, purples, grays, etc. but when no one but me can tell what color they are, I may as well slap on a cheap black instead. Part of the fun of wearing polish is when people notice how unique and pretty the color is.
- A salon brand releases a glossy forest green and navy creme in a streak-free non-goopy formula.
- See CND Team Red in action at Fashion Week.
- After getting the opportunity to meet the brains behind Zoya, I hope to meet any of the amazing women that shape the nail world; Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, Essie Weingarten, Deborah Lippmann, Jan Arnold, Susie McCready, etc.
Last year I had a facial and manicure at my favorite local spa. My manicurist had a basket of OPI nail polish on display. The bottles were new, but they were from old collections so she was selling them for $4 each. I picked out a shimmery purple and a brownish purplish reddish creme. The names were cute, too: NYPD Beet and Vampire State Building. It was months before I found out how rare the are.
I’m so in with all your wishes. I’d love to see those come true!
Congrats on your anniversary (& may all your nail wishes come true!)
I’m absolutely with you on the OPI discontinueds. My wallet does not like OPI. Congratulations on your 1 year! I read your blog religiously and it’s because of that that I moved beyond my 5 red polishes into the huge and varying collection I have now. Thanks, and keep up the good work!
Congratulations!
Very well said about the OPI. You have made quite the name for yourself over the past year, so hopefully with some luck, OPI will listen! I would buy every last one of the ones you mentioned! As much as I do want some of those, I won’t shell out the prices on ebay for them. I’d much rather give the dough to the part it belongs to- OPI.
Congrats on the year anniversary! I hope your wishes come true! A few wishes of mine – swatches of OMG! and e-romance! Thanks for all of your work!!
Congratulations on your 1st birthday! Being a stay-at-home mom with an online store to build from a scratch for 3 years, I would say it must be a hard work and persistence for your success in the first year. I can see that you have a wonderful blog (I read it faithfully) and have a great success for just one year. That’s impressive for me…:-)..Best wishes in the new year!
I LOVE THIS BLOG!!! Thanks so much for all your hard work. Swatch on!
By the way…have you ever seen/heard of/tried these polishes?

Congratulations on your one year anniversary! You deserve the praise, your blog is an outstanding resource. <3
ITA on the almost-black polish front! I loooove dark nail colors, but it’s depressing to paint your nails up a dark blue only to realize once it dries that it really only looks blue in certain lighting and really only when I look close. Makes me feel like I’ve wasted money when almost-black blue looks the same on as almost-black purple and straight black.
I just have to tell you how much I love you and love your blog! I read it practically every single day, I don’t buy a polish without checking here first. You have introduced me to so many new colors and products, and I thank you so much! Keep on going – you are awesome. Congrats on your anniversary and Happy New Year!
Congratulations! You do a great job!
That’s an impressive list! I would like to put one more out into the Universe–that someone will put out a true navy creme. And I’d kill to see Rainforest again! Your blog is amazing for only being around one year. I can hardly believe that. Congrats on your anniversary, and I hope to see you posting everyday of Year Two.
I don’t have any wishes to add to this great list, except to say please add that Pike’s Peak color to the OPI list, I can’t find that amazing purple anywhere!
Congratulations! Your blog is wonderful and fun, keep up the good work! and i second you wish for OPI returns, with better formula of course
Congrats on your anniv! *flips thru Bubbly cards to find an appropriate drink*
I, too, hold your Nail Polish wishes. Mfg—if you are reading—I am certain every nail board member would buy doubles of the above mentioned!
Absolutely agree about the old OPI polishes; I’m wearing Black Tie Optional today, and every time I put it on I have a little internal crisis, because I’m absolutely dreading running out of it.
Happy Blog Birthday/Anniversary!!
Thank you for all the well wishes everyone! I have the best bunch of readers.
To the Anon that found NYPD Beet and VSB, I’m so jealous. I have NYPD Beet but I keep hoping to one day uncover VSB at a dusty. I’ve found Black Magic Mountain and Peel Me A Gobi Grape through hunting so VSB is surely next.
Plastic Cup of Stars – Yes, I have tried Del Sol color change polish. There is a store here in Ohio and I bought Elecktrick!, the light blue that turns lime green. The formula for the one I have is semi-sheer so it takes a few coats and the metallic quality left brush strokes. I may pick up another color this summer just to see if the formula is different for each shade. You can see a pic of it in my photobucket account.
Many congrats to your anniversary and may all your wishes come true!

Happy Anniversary, M! Your blog is wonderful, and I wish you all the best for a great 2008.
I love your wish list, and I, too, hope that all of your nail polish wishes come true.
Hugs!
happy bday ALU!!! you have had so much success with your blog, it has blown me away, making me proud! i’m glad it’s a source that i can always look to for ideas on what i’ll be wearing next.
you echo my sentiment in that i’m tired of the almost black polish. i just got my nails done yesterday and can say that i got blue! not a bright blue, but a blue that doesn’t look black and you can def tell it’s blue!!! yay color! keep up the great work michelle!
Happy 1st Birthday ALU! ITA with your wish for OPI to bring back those beloved discontinued shades (I hope you’re reading this OPI!). And I’m also with you on the almost-black shades – enough already! Keep up the great work! Thank you for a great blog!
I stand 100% behind you in your pleas for a less goopy big 3 free formula! I love zoya polish but get so frustrated when the darker colors are so thick and goopy that application is far from a dream
These ebay people are out of their minds!! They are so trying to take advantage of us cause we love these colors. Sad, but unfortunatley it’s the world we live in……
Congratulations on your anniversary! Thanks for your fabulous blog.
I completely agree with your wish regarding an end to the “almost black” trend and for the offering of a glossy forest green and navy creme!

Congrats to you & your blog for your first anniversary! I love your blog and you have inspired me to expand my choice of colors when it comes to polish!
I think my polish wish would be for smaller bottles, since I rarely use up an entire bottle of nail polish (too many other colors to try!).
Great blog – happy anniversary!
Happy 1 year Cincy!
Love your information and all your great polish pics!
Also thanks for the great Zoya information yesterday!
Happy Blogging!
Great wishes! Hope they all come true. Happy anniversary!
Congrats, I love your blog. : ) I also have a wish to add.
: ( I want a good dark green creme like Zulu or for it to be re-released. *sigh*
Hello Happy 1 year anniversary, I only just found your blog and I simply adore it! Nails is the shit.
I love your blog and have a query that I hope you (or someone) can answer. I got OPI’s “Russian Navy” for Christmas, and it looks great, but it keeps chipping! Could it be the cheap topcoat? I’m sure my application of 2 thin coats on clean, prepped nails isn’t the problem. What can I do to prevent these effect-ruining chips?
Belated congratulations on your one-year anniversary! I agree with you about the too-dark-to-see blackened colors; so many look beautiful in the bottle, and just look black on the nail. You do a great service to the np-loving community with your blog, and I thank you!
Congrats on the anniversary from a new reader – I can’t believe my luck a whole blog dedicated to nail polish. Trying a new one today, OPIs Catherine the Grape.
I don’t know if I am ready to give up the “almost black” look, but I am definitely open to hearing new fabulous ideas that you have.
My Fashion Blog
congrats! I love your blog
okay, i’ve come back here about 10 times…TIME FOR A NEW POST
Hey, ladies! I’ve been checking this site for more interesting reports, but there’s nothing to read at all, after January 2 post. Please, let us hear from you ASAP!
My sentiments exactly! Forest green and true navy blue– seems so elementary, doesn’t it? Why can’t I find them?? That is actually how I found this post– by searching on those exact words!!
Keep us updated!
i hear you sister! I’ve been looking for some of these colors on the Internet all weekend….but I’m not gonna spend $25-35 on a bottle on Ebay. Guess I should’ve got the colors years ago when they were hot….it would be great if OPI brought them back.
Okay, seriously, utterly bizarre that OPI released Colorcopia (though not with the ultra uber-cool shades), and China Glaze is re-releasing Wizard of Ooh Ahz (sans Emerald City, which would be the most AWESOME emerald green holo). Psychic woman, you must be!
I wish I had those kind of powers. Then I’d know if Chanel will re-release their gorg dark green Vert Sacrilege.
So… Emerald Sparkle? Was that part of the Wizard collection?
Also, thank you for Nubar Reclaim, ALU. I know you were the reason they made this, with your freaky psychic ability.
Still waiting on the “Best Of” collection, OPI!
