I’m A Leaving On A Jet Plane…
Hey kids! I heading out west to L.A. for a loooong weekend and I’m so excited. Other than Seattle, I’ve never visited the west coast before so I’m hoping to see as much of the city as I can. I’ll be in town for a summit with a bunch of my fellow beauty bloggers. Can you imagine? All us product junkies together in one room. Craziness will ensue, I guarantee it!
I know you’re probably like, “Who cares, where are the posts?” “We want swatches!” And I totally hear that. I just had so much work to do before leaving that fun stuff, like playing with polish, had to be put to the side. But, I promise that I’ll have lots of goodies to show when I return. And posts will be way more regular.
If you have any ideas of what I should see or do in L.A. post them here. I’ll be sending updates with the happenings to my Twitter account, AllLacqueredUp, if you want to follow along.
go grab the new Chanel nail collection (bright neons) at their new l.a. store! only available there until July!!!
Hey Cincy,
where in LA you staying?Moo-mail me!!
BTW Barneys had the Chanels too
I live in LA. You should check out the brand new beautifully amazing mega shopping center: The Americana at Brand. It’s gorgeous with some really cool, exclusive shops. Lots of places to eat too. The website is: http://www.americanaatbrand.net/
Have a great time. The Summit agenda looks fabulous. Enjoy.
get the nail polishs if you can! or at least one of them! I can’t wait for them!
can’t wait until you get back. I check everyday to see if you have posted yet.
The Getty is beautiful and has amazing views of L.A. and the ocean. The museum is free and parking is $5.00 I think.
The Newsroom Cafe (I think that’s the name) is on Robertson across from The Ivy and next to Lisa Kline etc… It has great food and it’s fun to people watch. It’s not expensive and they are not snobby. Montana in Santa Monica has unique shops (a street) and Ocean Ave on the Venice beach side of Santa Monica is funky and interesting. Venice beach is always interesting but with the weather so warm here, it can be hard to park. Malibu is NOT the place to go – long drive and not very interesting. The beach at Malibu will be VERY crowded this weekend and PCH is hard to navigate to park and walk. For a little drive, Manhattan Beach is the “Cool” place for young people to live and there are bars and restaurants there although you will be getting a well-to-do preppy crowd – not a hip LA crowd there. Hollywood is getting nicer with a new shopping center and better restaurants. It’s not so dirty at night anymore. As I am a SAHM I don’t know the better night spots now. I like to park across from the Pantages theater since it seems safer and easier in and out of the parking lot. The Grove is a popular outdoor shopping area (Posh shops there). It’s nearer to downtown LA.
You need to taste Pinkberry yogurt. Pasadena is very cool and has great restaurants and the architecture of homes and buildings is amazing. I lived in Pasadena for many years before moving to the burbs.
Have a wonderful time!! Let me know if you have any questions about anything (driving, parking suggestions etc…) if you don’t have an Angeleno in your group.
Leah
Hi! Think I can add a few things here… First of all, depends what you want out of this trip. Pick up a copy of the L.A. Weekly (free, & in lots of stores, restaurants, etc.)It has the really interesting things going on, plus contact info for everywhere (addresses, phone, etc.) If malls are your thing, Shefali’s right: The Americana at Brand is only a few weeks old and pretty spectacular, though its
“sister” mall, The Grove, is more at the center of things. It’s next to the permanent Farmers’ Market, which has been there since since maybe the 20s, is really great & has some excellent food stalls;CBS studios is there too,so you can also probably catch a few TV stars shopping, catching a quick lunch, etc. The Ivy costs a lot, is hard to get into and the food is okay, but there are ALWAYS stars/celebs Into the beach? Huntington Beach & Manhattan Beach are real local beach scenes – surfers, skaters & locals always having fun. Santa Monica beach is GREAT – a long, old-time pier with carnival rides & lots of silly fun (just don’t go in the water there – yecch), and Venice Beach’s “boardwalk” (no boards) will blow your mind, I know I wouldn’t miss it!: artists, skaters, performers, Hare Krishnas,
actors… home of Muscle Beach, and there are loads of little store/booths where you can find some really gorgeous & unique clothes, vintage, new & just used, very cheap (be sure to bargain!).
If you don’t mind hot temps (90s & 100s)Pasadena is really lovely & close by; if you like Chinese & other Asian foods & items, the San Gabriel Valley has THE best, most authentic Chinese food in the U.S. (check with any American food critic), especially incredible, huge dim sum palaces! We have some great museums, like Leah said, the Getty’s WONDERFUL costs only the $5for parking (but there’s a catch to getting in; email me if you want to know); and one most people don’t usually know about, the Getty in Malibu, that is too spectacular: the entire museum is a replica of an ancient Roman emperor’s country villa, all in marble, etc., & with nothing but Classical art, one of the most amazing collections around! Even visitors who aren’t interested in art are just stunned by this place! Well, sorry- there is SO much more, great fashion places, clubs… so much! But I hope this helps. Feel free to email me if you need more info & have a wonderful trip (–BRING SUNSCREEN!!).
Sorry that came out so long. I DO love me some L.A!
Maybe you can get a mani at the Jessica Nail Clinic!! I wish I was there! Have fun!!
Definitely go to Jessica’s salon. Last time I was there I sat next to Morgan Fairchild. She was really nice and talkative. She’s a regular there. It’s a fun place for star sightings, so is the Ivy at about 1:30-2:00 on a weekday. I’ve seen Will Smith, Michelle Pheiffer, Blair from Facts of Life and Lyle Lovett (who is actually kind of cool looking in person and really tall.)
Have fun!!!
great to finally meet you michelle! a pleasure!!!
Had tons of fun meeting you Michelle! Hope you’ll make it out to the next one in November – I imagine you won’t have any trouble trucking it to NYC though
