Rachel Bilson on Page Six Magazine
ALU reader Megan contacted me regarding Rachel Bilson’s recent photo spread in Page Six Magazine. She wanted to know if I could pinpoint Rachel’s nail polish shade.
My immediate thought, that she’s wearing Chanel Kaleidoscope. Considering how unique the shade is and its sellout status, I was willing to bet on it. Fortunately my Chanel contact was able to confirm that the former O.C. princess, who I’ll always think of as Little Miss Vixen, is indeed sporting Kaleidoscope on her tips (see below).
And while Kaleidoscope can only be tracked down on eBay (those damn scalpers) and is a hard shade to dupe, I suggest you try its distant relatives (you know, the ones we don’t talk about at reunions); Essie Steeling The Scene or Boots No 7 Molten (found at Target). Or for something a bit more champagne but in the same metallic vein, Orly Too Much Bubbly.
Do you know of a good Kaleidoscope twin Megan can try? Leave your suggestion in the comments.
I just got Queen of Everything from the Sephora by OPI collection, and I think it would be a pretty good match for this color.
Kaleidoscope is still available from the Neiman Marcus website and they frequently have free shipping codes.
Rachel is so beautiful!!! What a great photo shoot too.
Covergirl boundless beauty in Bronzed Beauty is more bronze, but it has the same qualities and texture as K.
Someone PLEASE give her a manicure and even out the length of her nails! Hideous!
I’m wearing Steeling the Scene this week, and so far I’ve had two people stop to ask me how I got a bottle of Kaleidoscope. It’s a little more silver than I think Kaleidoscope is, but I bet with a little bit of DIY mixing, you could make it even closer. I’m just not creative enough to try!
michelle did this feebayer steal your picture?

Definitely Essie Steeling the scene. It’s not quite as shimmery as Kaleidoscope, but I actually like it better. And, it’s a heck of a lot cheaper, too!
New Borghese LE Celestial Silver looks similar. Agree on comments about Steeling the Scene. Although it sold out online, Kaleidoscope was still hanging around on store shelves and may still be available at some counters.
I just saw both Kaleidoscope and Gold Fiction at a Nordstrom Chanel counter last week, so I’m sure with some hunting and calling around you can still land the real thing.
I am so glad the question of a twin for Kaleidoscope came up. I’ve been thinking the same thing for weeks. I’m definitely going to look into the “distant relatives” mentioned. Thanks!
I just ordered 2 bottles of Kaleidoscope online at neimanmarcus.com yesterday.
I have both Chanel Kaleidoscope and OPI Rinse Charming and I think they’re pretty similar.. Although Rinse Charming might be hard to find as well, since its discontinued..
Both Chanel counters in the mall near where I unfortunately live have plenty of both Kaleidoscope and Gold Fiction. What blew me away was the fact that the sales girl at one of them told me a couple of weeks ago when I was picking up the Smokey Eye quad that they had sold out of Fantastic twice already and had yet to sell out of either Kaleidoscope or Gold Fiction even once. I’m glad I went ahead and got both Kaleidoscope and Gold Fiction back when they first came out. In fact I’m thinking of maybe buying another bottle of Kaleidoscope, its my favorite.
I just bought it last night at Belk in South Park Mall in Charlotte. They had quite a few bottles.
I forgot to say that I don’t know if Belk ships on not, but here’s the number if you want to ask. 704-364-4251.
As for dupes, I have CG Bronzed Beauty and while close, it’s not the same. BB is browner. I tried Queen of Everything last night at Sephora and had it on one nail when I went to Belk. Not the same at all. Q of E is lighter for starters. It’s pretty much a dupe for an old OPI shade, Needles in a Haystack, which I still have because it’s as good as new.
Just letting you know, this past weekend (September 19) I could still find Kaleidoscope at my local Macy’s (Dayton Mall, Ohio). Also it is still available on “Needless Markup’s” website (yes I was idiotic enough to order a bottle before discovering it at the local Macy’s but I just had to have it).
Hope that helps someone trying to track it down.
I’m the person who asked about Rachel’s nails. Thanks for everyone’s input. I ended up with a bottle of Steel-ing the Scene and I’m VERY HAPPY with the results! I look a lot like Rachel Bilson now – well, ok, not really – but my nails look a lot like hers! ha!
wahh i want this colour so bad!
