NYMag’s Nail Polish Shop-A-Matic
Happy Friday kids! Are you all ready for something really fun? Then head on over to New York Magazine online and check out their latest Shop-A-Matic feature on nail polish.
The Shop-A-Matic highlights NY Mag’s top picks in fashion, lifestyle and for the first time ever, beauty. We’re talking over 100 of the best sneakers, bags, dresses, etc. They even have gift giving guides for holidays, family and friends that include all the details you need to hit the stores.
What really impressed me with the Nail Polish Shop-A-Matic is that instead of just showing you the bottle like every other commercial site, they actually took the time to photograph each polish on the nail.
As you’re paging through their list of 110 favorite polishes, click on ones you like and check out the swatches. Granted they aren’t dead on accurate but I certainly give them an A for effort.
Really nice, though I wish the finger swatches were done with someone who actually grooms their nails. Ah well. I didn’t even know the colors were that sheer when it wasn’t swatched.
your blog has been so much fun lately!
this was pretty cool. i just wish that the application had been a little nicer. but hey! for 110 polishes, not bad!
Oh I LOVE OPI’s Miami Beet even more on the nail!!! I’m buying that one ASAP… I’ve been eyeing it for a while now
I’m curious about the Sula “Paint and Peel” brand I see so often at urban outfitters. I love some colors since they seem mostly like cremes (like Moss and Dove) but for $9 I’d rather go buy OPI or Essie fullprice. Or you know, get some nfuh-ohs. Have you tried Sulas?
Really neat site though.
Anon – I can only imagine how long it took to take all those. I’m sure my nails would look pretty beat near the end. It was a valiant effort on their part though.
Anon #2 – Thanks. I try to keep it entertaining for you all. I’m glad you’re enjoying it.
Anon#3 – I’m with ya but that is a LOT of swatching. I just hope she soaked in cuticle oil after.
Toni Jo – M.B. is pretty. I showed it in a Swatch Request post but never did a full review.
Crotchfairy – You know, I’ve been hesitant about that brand even though readers have asked me about them in the past. Any kind of peel off paint makes me leery. I wonder about it damaging/weakening the nail bed when you peel it off. Mine get hit hard enough as it is.
I’m the same way. Well, I’m more concerned about how long it’ll last without chipping. The shades haven’t really motivated me to splurge like Illamasqua has.
this is a pretty cool feature! Picture quality can be improved but this is a great idea to showcase real colour applied straight on the nail (as opposed to Photoshopped colour on a nail)
Those swatches were taken on at least half a dozen different fingers, probably as many fingers as brands. I am curious though why no China Glaze or Misa?
