The ALU Archives – Essie Cantaloupe
The ALU Archives focuses on older, beloved shades from the All Lacquered Up stash.
I find it funny that even though I’m not always jumping on Essie‘s bandwagon, as I sort though my polishes to pick each week’s Archives shade, I keep coming across these great Essies that have been long forgotten. Back before we had access to all these outrageous greens, blues, greys, etc., I was way more into Essie due to the formula. So when I decided that I wanted to post a pretty summery melon, I turned to my old time staple, Essie Cantaloupe. Check it out! |
Back when my collection was more manageable and I had time to repeat shades on the regular, I wore the shit out of Cantaloupe. You don’t even know. It was my go-to shade in the summer because it always makes me look more tan. It’s the polish I often recommend to anyone seeking a soft melon. Its creamy finish, flawless consistency and smooth, even coverage make it a winner in my book!
Essie Cantaloupe retails for around $4 on our favorite e-tailer sites (see sidebar) and for $8 on Essie.com. You can also find it locally at national salon chains like ULTA, Regis and Trade Secret.
So what’s on your nails this week fanatics? Any Cantaloupe fans? Anyone planning to run out and buy it? Who’s discovered a long lost polish treasure recently?
Oh and look for a fun new giveaway tomorrow. Stay tuned!
I'm not sure this would work on my skintone, but I agree with you that Essie has a great formula. I have a large-ish stash of old tried and trues from Essie…some oldies but goodies. Thanks for always inspiring us to go and dig out some fabulous but forgotten shades of years past. It's like a walk down memory lane
On another note–when can we see your Barielle and RBL creations??? I'm like a kid waiting for Christmas, bursting with excitement and without an ounce of patience!!!
This week I have been sporting OPI I'm His Coral-friend and I love it!
I do like melon shades, but the only one I have ever owned was OPI Melon of Troy and I gifted it to a friend becuase I didn't like the way it looked on me. Your pic looks so great that I might have to give melon shades another try. Thanks!
I really like that shade! Would you say it's very similar to Chanel LA Sunset? I wore that the other day, and they may be too similar to warrant both.
Oh! I love cantloupe! Definitely going to buy it.
Today I am sporting Essie's Waltz- I'm going to a wedding tomorrow, so it seems appropriate!
That's so pretty.
I hadn't even thought about how a melon shade would look on me, I thought melon was one of the old lady nail polishes. But this one is really pretty. I think I may go out and get a bottle of it! Thanks so much!
I love it! I pulled out my LA Girl nail lacquer in HOT PINK! SO PRETTY!
Oh, that's really pretty, Michelle! I love it.
I've joked on Essies before (mostly for the most safest in marketable colors and often repeating some on the sly calling them new colors), but I can't take away from the fact they come out with some good ones, they are slam dunk winners!!! I am wearing Essie Groovy Grape. It'll be the 2nd time wearing it in a year (which means it's good if I bypass an unworn to wear it). It's wearing excellently with Orly Bonder & Sec N Dry. I really love this color.
i have this on my list to purchase the next time i make a order and i'm glad you posted it because now i'm sure i have to have it.
This shade is awesome! I've never thought of using this kind of color before..I love how Essie is branching out and going neon etc. Getting manicures is just that much more exciting!
Michael Jackson died! OMG!
This is really pretty. I think it would make me look orange or something, I can't imagine it making me look tan, but it's pretty!
I love cantaloupe, its nice and summery. I currently have on Essies Lovie Dovie from this summers collection.
Can you pahlleeaassse do a nail or full mani dedicated to Michael Jackson (Rest in Peace), it sad to see him go.
This was one of the first Essie shades I ever tried and I still love it. Great for summer
Oh I love Essie and I totally adore this color! But it looks kinda similar to Chanel Orange Fizz (which I am totally in love with btw)?
So weird, I just bought this today and hadn't even read this! Love it!
I'm going to run out to buy it!!!!!! I am always looking for a color like this! I love the ALU archives!
Would it be possible for you to do a post comparing Cantalope to other Essie corals/peaches? I'd love to see how it compares to the two new ones they've come out with, as well as any others they have.
Corally peaches are really hard to find that can go with a persons skin. So many times I buy one that I think is pretty, only to fins out it looks harsh on my pale hands (although some of those do work on my toes, so not a huge loss).
