The ALU Archives – Icing by Claire’s Money Talks & I Married Blue
The ALU Archives focuses on older, beloved shades from the All Lacquered Up stash.
I can’t believe that in the two and a half years I’ve been writing ALU that I’ve NEVER mentioned Icing polishes! If you’re unfamiliar, Icing is a chain of accessory stores owned by Claire’s. I honestly never shopped there until some MUA nail board girls discovered their line of nail polish. They have a wide range of colors and come out with limited edition seasonal collections quite often. AND they’re pretty cheap. You can usually find them on some kind of sale.
Unfortunately, since we moved a couple years ago I haven’t had immediate access to an Icing so it’s been a while since I added to my stash. Obviously I’m not up on the latest colors but I have a couple of my faves to show you. Check them out!
According to my bottles Icing polishes are 3-Free (including Formaldehyde Resin) but I would check the labels before buying, just to be sure. The formula is on the thinner side so even dark colors usually take three coats for even coverage but it flows smoothly on the nail and dries glossy.
Money Talks is a blackened forest green shimmer with silver micro-glitter floating throughout. It was packaged in a set a couple holidays back so I’m not sure if it’s still able to be found.
I Married Blue was an open stock color I picked up during one of their sales. It’s definitely in the burple family more than navy. It has a pearl/shimmer that looks a bit magenta in the bottle that I attribute to its slight purple leaning.
I realize the bottles look VERY similar to China Glaze and I know people have wondered if they’re by the same company but I think the similarities stop at the bottle shape. Icing polishes are produced in Illinois while China Glaze is based in California.
You can only find Icing polishes at their stores and this bottle size retails for $3.50 but there’s usually some kind of deal going on. You find an Icing near you using their store locator.
Where are my Icing lovers? What are your favorite shades? Seen anything new and fun that I should make the trip out east for?
Well, obviously Icing is not to be found here in Norway, but if I could get my hands on them I'd definitely get Superstitious and Money Talks. What a lovely bunch of colors!!!!
Me wants!
I looked at Icing polishes when another polish blogger (sorry, don't remember who) recommended them.
They've got a great not-too-dark grayish blue creme called My Blue Heaven.
Huh, for a lesser known brand those look like some fairly fashion forward colors, I may have to look into this!
I don't have any Icing polishes. Is the formula okay?
There's another polish brand with those EXACT same bottles as icing called susina (I'm pretty sure…) It even has those squiggles on the cap!
I recently bought The Icing's 7th Inning Stretch and a collection of mini glitter polishes (silver, red, green, purple, black) that didn't seem to have individual names. I LOVE them. The colors are gorgeous and they easily went 5 days without anything more than normal edge wear. 7th Inning Stretch and the purple glitter are going to become a couple of my "go to" nail polishes, I just know it.
They've been BOGO at 50% off the last four or five times I've been in an Icing. Those are gorgeous colors, especially the green!
those are so pretty. i never go into an icing, maybe i should start now
Icing has a deep (but not black) shimmery teal called Roger That – it's AMAZING. I love their polishes!
I've only got a couple Icing polishes, but Blackout is one of my favorite polishes ever, black with holo glitter & it's like looking at the night sky or something. Fabulous color, and I would love to pick up more of this brand.
Love Icing polishes! Great colors and are often on sale. My favorite shade is def. Roger That (a shimmery teal green), but I also really like Blue Goose and My Blue Heaven
I have I Married Blue! I also have Dream Catcher which is a light pink. I got them on sale for like 50 cent a piece. I've never used them though. Which now makes me feel like a polish snob! haha.
Wow, "I married blue" is beautiful!
I have Money Talks – bought it when it came out a couple of years ago. It's still a fave.
The other look-alike bottle shape is the Savina line, available @ Nordstrom Rack
funny you should mention icing because I just discovered them for the first time less then a month ago, and I love thier nail polish. My fav is sour apples, it kind of reminds me of the charater Elphba from the book Wicked. There is a play in San fran about this book. Anyways I just love the color.
There’s also a Broadway musical…
