alu-polishtory-2-7-10 This Week in ALU Pol-history is a series where I transport you a la Mr. Peabody’s WABAC (wayback) Machine to check out my favorite past polish posts. Newbies and old school Fanatics, take a look and see what you’ve missed!

February 2007

I took on the MUA Nail Board’s “dare week” by wearing sheer polishes (so NOT me) and finally discovered a sheer I love; Zoya Bailey.

I flipped for the matching berry lips & tips at the Diane Von Furstenberg runway show during New York Fashion Week.

February 2008

I fell in love with OPI all over again thanks to the incredible new formula in the India collection.

I took you backstage with me at my very first New York Fashion Week show and it was a doozy;  Kimora Lee Simmons Baby Phat collection.

February 2009

We took a look at the Zoya Twist Collection which included standout shades, Jo (cornflower blue) and Harley (shimmering gray).

Thanks to ALU Mom & Dad I was able to share with you my favorite hand cream from Aruba Aloe.

It’s the first week of February and even though that stupid groundhog predicted six more weeks of winter, I’m choosing to ignore him. It’s a sunny day in the Cleveburg and the days are finally starting to feel longer. So despite what that rodent says, I’m feeling optimistic about an early spring.

Today is Superbowl Sunday and this year the boyfriend and I are staying home. We’re stocked up on plenty of good beer and junk food and at some point he’s going to shovel his way to the grill (what a man!). I’m leaving for Fashion Week early Friday morning so I wasn’t really up for a party anyway. Plus, I’d really love to hear the commercials for once. It’s the only reason I watch the stupid game.

What are your plans for the evening? Did you do anything fun over the weekend? What’s on your nails at the moment? Mine are a skittles of holos and metallics (all things you’ll see soon!).

I’m wearing Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear in Wet Cement, such a great color! I’ll probably change it tonight as it’s started to chip, I’m not a big football fan so I’ll probably be squeeing over the puppy bowl. :D

My fingernail polish is currently “California Coral” by Essie.

    Hello Michelle,

Completely off-topic, but I wanted to thank you for your (quite old) post about how you file your nails! I stumbled upon it while browsing through your website and have been following your tips on filing since. Before I’d hold the nail file under 90, as opposed to 45, degree angle to my nails, but since I’ve adapted your technique (complete with ‘sealing’ the nail edge afterwards) my nails have not split once! Which is amazing, cause I’ve always had problems with it, since I can remember. So, to finish this slightly too long and very OT comment, thank you so much :) you saved my… well, maybe not life, but nails for sure :)

I remember Mr. Peabody and the WABAC machine and Sherman!! Of course, that kind of gives us away, doesn’t it??? ;)
I’m wearing Zoya Barbie, my first time wearing Zoya and after reading your 2008 review, I am confused! I found Zoya Barbie to be thin and watery and bubbly and I am not crazy about it at all. Is their formula inconsistent or do you just perfer a thinner formula than I do? Weird…I love the color, but don’t like fighting with the formula.

That’s odd. There could be formula inconsistencies. It wouldn’t be the first time that’s happened with a brand

  5. yeah. i’d only watch the superbowl for the commercials too … if i had cable that is. But, i guess i’ll have to try and catch some of them online on Youtub and such.

On my nails is my first attempt at my ‘counterfeit’ Beyonce Grammy nails. A better trial turned out, which i made a tutorial out of here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2sC1iI1jufI
but I still like the trial run on my own nails enough to not remove them until the end of the week.

Thanks for the shoutout on your video and a very cool interpretation of Beyonce’s look. Have you tried any of the holographic nail polishes? A silver holo like China Glaze OMG would be great. btw, my last name is pronounced miss-mass though you made a great attempt. No one ever gets it right since it’s not spelled phonetically.

currently wearing OPI ink – just recently discovered your blog and am smitten! now have a list of new nail polish colors that I want to sample! so fun!

  7. laquermanic says:

I have a lot of Zoya on my lemming, and think that in what shimmer is concerned (love the subtle shimmer), Zoya is in my top ten brands.

Right now I’m wearing a shame mani: A last minute french. As french manicure is one to do half an hour before you leave the house … Big dent on my ring finger, but nicely covered by some silver “art” design and CND Amethyst Sparkle. Next out would be a lace mani. :)

What’s so great bout the Super Bowl commercials? Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question, but I’m in Europe lol I’m not even sure what’s so great bout the Super Bowl itself haha

Oh, and I’m wearing China Glaze Sheashell, thanks to your blog! and I love it :D

    • Irune says:

*great ABOUT… What’s wrong with me today? Sorry about that.

    • All Lacquered Up says:

The commercial airtime costs during the Superbowl are more expensive than any other event on TV so the brands usually unveil their best, most clever commercials during that time. I would imagine the Superbowl is the equivalent of soccer (or European football) championships. Baseball may be the national pastime here but football seems to draw more crowds.

Wearing CG Four Leaf Clover, and loving it!

  10. MaryCate says:

Happened upon this blog by accident, but LOVING it! wearing no polish right now, since I missed my ‘manicure day’ yesterday and had terribly chipped OPI purple nails…couldn’t go to work w/that shabby look! Have been wearing the great OPI dark colors, like Suzi says Da and Mrs. Oleary’s BBQ for the last couple of months though.

Right now I have a Valentine’s french mani – can’t remember which but an OPI berry pink, w/Butter London Chancer on the tips (red glitter) and a white line between. I’m loving your blog – found it by accident but it has greatly expanded my color choices. I have acrylics and I’ve been ordering greens & blues and glitters and have them stashed at the shop where I get my fills to share – I’m not likely to use up a whole bottle and the deal is – if it gets used up QUICK he has to order the next one!!

  12. Niki says:

Just got a small pile of polishes in from Trans Design and so am wearing a crazy set of different colors, from OPI Dating A Royal to Amour Rain Glitter. I sometimes can’t resist swatching all the new goodies!
