NARS Fury and Galathée Nail Polish for Fall 2013 Swatches & Review
Where my fall and winter wardrobe is concerned, no colors dominate my closet more than purple and grey. No matter what the trend may be each year, they remain my staple shades. From my beloved purple Rebecca Minkoff M.A.B. (scored on Gilt) to my kitten-soft grey sweater dress, it’s a color combination that I just can’t quit. That’s why, when I laid eyes on the NARS Fall 2013 color palette for nails, I was hooked!
The theme of Founder and Creative Director François Nars’ collection is rich color impact in signature NARS shades. Well, if the nail colors are any indication, he certainly delivered.
Formula & Application: NARS nail polishes are 4-Free (Formaldehyde, DBP, Toluene and Formaldehyde Resin). The squat square bottles are topped with a somewhat rubberized cap that houses a short, round brush. Unlike a lot of prestige brands that have a removable outer cap, the NARS cap is one solid piece. The bristles are pretty flexible, though they are kind of sparse and don’t fan out easily.
As I mentioned in my review of the NARS Andy Warhol collection, I haven’t had the best luck with NARS lacquers in the past. But the formula has drastically improved ever since the Thakoon release. It’s so smooth, creamy and pigmented. Both shades applied flawlessly, delivering full coverage in two coats.
NARS Fury is a decadently lush blue-leaning purple creme that borders on indigo in some light. It has just enough pigment punch to keep it from treading into almost-black territory yet it has the mysterious edge we associate with those shades.
NARS Galathée is a dove grey creme with a hint of blue in its base though not as much as RBL Concrete Jungle. This type of pale grey is just my style and it’s a shame more brands don’t have them in their perm collections. Zoya Dove is the only one I can think of, offhand, and it looks practically muddy next to Galathée.
Just to show you how perfectly these shades play off each other, I added a smattering of Galathée dots to my Fury manicure. Makes for a fun accent nail, no?
Bottom Line: If you’re as much a fan of a purple and grey combo as I am, it will be hard to resist these shades. The grey is particularly lust-worthy for its neutrality. While the hefty price tag can be quite a deterrent, if you do take the plunge, have faith that the formula and pigmentation won’t let you down.
The NARS Fall 2013 color collection is available now at NARS.com, Nordstrom.com and NARS counters nationwide. NARS nail polish retails for $19/ea for a .5oz bottle.
Thoughts on the NARS fall shades? Do you plan to pick either of them up? Is there any predominant color theme to your fall wardrobe?

They’re gorgeous shades. NARS really nailed it with these two.
I agree!
I’m getting married next year and purple and gray are my wedding colors!
I love it! I always said, if I got married, I’d want a pale grey wedding dress instead of traditional white/ivory.
Oh man, I love these. I only have two NARS polishes and I love them. They’re my most expensive ones.
I wear a LOT of olive green in fall.
I wish I could pull off olive green but it doesn’t work with my skin tone.
I love both of those colors, and especially together. The grey seems very chic, and classic.
Looks like I’ll be adding to me ‘Want’ list!
I agree, very classic but modern at the same time
Just my colors, I love them. I still dont have a light grey color.
All the great light greys I own were limited edition and discontinued.
I love the NARS Fury color cause it’s a bluish purple. Do you have any good suggestions on any dupes at this time?
These colors are so pretty, but this brand is completely out of my price range. Ah well, there’s lots of other pretties out there.
I completely understand
I’m loving the Fury!
It’s gorgeous!
purple and grey (and teal, and black) are also the base of my wardrobe, and I don’t care about fashion, I just wear what “I” like, so they’re always IN for me!
Fury is definitely nice, but Galath
Teal and black are definitely secondary colors in mine as well.
I had stopped buying Nars polishes because of the formula but these two are pretty and if they’ve improved them then it is worth the money. I love the dove gray on your nails.
Thanks Marcia! The formula used to be very iffy but I’ve had good luck with all the others I’ve tried in the past year or so.
Butter london billy no mates and Deborah lippman chasing pavements are quite similar but in the same price range however it does look like one of the new sephora x colors might be a match too. I love this color and own Galath
Thanks for sharing!
