File Under: Are We Really Doing This? – Cuticle Tattoos

When it comes to nail adornment, I’ve seen a lot of “unique” things. Remember nail piercings (which apparently Kylie Jenner is trying to bring back from the ’80s)? Or that nail ring I spotted on Kim Kardashian at NYFW? What about nail polish AS rings, like the ones butter LONDON created for Vena Cava.

More recently, Karl Lagerfeld took the knuckle ring craze up a level when he created nail bands for the Chanel F/W 2013/14 Haute Couture runway. I can barely keep knuckle rings from slipping off my fingers. How in the WORLD do you function wearing those?

Now, RAD Nails has upped the nail art ante with the introduction of Cuticle Tattoos. As if the nail bed wasn’t canvas enough, they are moving design to the skin and cuticle with their line of water decals. With four shapes to choose from, including black and red drips (not shown), the decals can be worn on the skin or nail itself. There’s a great example with the drips on NaitItMag.com

I’ve used water decals in the past, mainly Cleveland Browns-themed ones for games (Go Browns!), but wearing them on my cuticle is probably a bit much for my taste.

What say you? Would you try these? Are we, as a nail community, really doing this??

RAD Nails Cuticle Tattoos retail for $6/ea for a set of 12 decals. Available at RADNails.com.

I actually quite like this, especially the design with the pink nail!

  2. Carissa H. says:

Ok I hate to say this but I really like the 3 lined triangle one and the drips. I’m not really one for gimmicky nail things but I think the drips for Halloween would be fun! And the triangle on an accent nail? Love! Although I don’t think I’ll be purchasing these because striping tape and polish will do the job just as well, and drips are easily freehanded with a polish brush.

  3. Not something for me, it looks really strange

  4. Tonje says:

I can’t really decide if I like it or not. But well. No, I don’t think I’ll ever be doing this. :p

  5. Awesome Sophie says:

That is actually really cool. I’d totally wear them for a special occasion! Or, actually, I’d use them for every day as well. :o

  6. Natalie says:

    I can’t. I just can’t.

  7. Sarah says:

It looks kinda cool to me. Btw, is that a Harry Potter ring? The deathly hallows is coming to mind.

    • Michelle Mismas says:

The image is from RAD Nails so I don’t know about the ring. Sorry

    • Grimm says:

Nope, it’s the Triforce from Legend of Zelda.

    • Michaela says:

It’s actually a triforce ring from Zelda, I believe :)

    • Danii says:

It’s a Triforce, from Legend of Zelda. The Deathly Hallows uses a circle in a triangle split by a line. A Triforce is three triangles linked to make a bigger triangle with another inverted triangle in the center (because of the three triangles converging). There’s a notable difference but easy mistake; the Triforce has been around longer than Harry Potter anyway.XD

    • Stella says:

It’s not, it’s similar in that it’s a triangle, but it’s not even close beyond that.

  8. Kb says:

I think it’s kinda cool. I’d try it.

  9. marchlion says:

LOL. I don’t like it, but given the blingy polish I favor on my long nails, I’m not judging!

  10. Pam says:

I’m kinda on the bench with this. I can see wearing perhaps ONE for fun, but I do hope it won’t lead to people getting actual tattoos in the area…

  11. Cherry2000 says:

Can’t say I am into this, really. But I think I would like it if it were more of a henna/mendhi type design. Even one that went further up the finger, maybe.

  12. Carol says:

They look like fun, why not?! I am a huge fan of the midi rings & nail rings, bought some recently but find they are not practical to wear to work so this could be a fun alternative!

  13. Rachel D says:

For a minute I thought those were *permanent* tattoos! These aren’t too bad, just not something I see myself wearing. I dig the triangles though!

  14. Holly Nelson says:

I think that is actually something I would do!!

  15. FedoraHarp says:

I don’t know. On the first impression I strongly dislike them, but nail polish trends have been known to grow on me, so it could be in a couple of months I’ll change my tune if they become ubiquitous. I don’t think they’ll take off though.

  16. Danii says:

Apparently, they have models who play video games(Triforce ring). These are interesting, but I think I could do them at home with polish. Or with a temporary tattoo, which is what these are on a very small scale!

  17. brenda howell says:

While I love me some wild nail polish, the blingier and holo-y the better!! This does nothing for me!!

  18. Robin says:

I liked the looks of the tats on the pink and black nails. Wasn’t too crazy about the other two though

  19. Jennifer Hu says:

I posted this to our Pinterest board earlier today because I think these tattoos look quite cool.

  20. Moni says:

Very interesting! I thought of something similar for a while. My idea was to paint some matching patterns around the nail with eyeliner or acrylics or whatever doesn’t disappear too quickly.

I like the idea of changing the nail form in a phantastic way like on the pinky. I think you can make really arty things with that :-)

    Greetings from Berlin :-)

  21. Laura says:

I don’t think I would wear them, personally, but I think they look pretty cool!

  22. Juls says:

I can do without these! But I’d love to know where you got the Browns ones! I have Tribe ones but I’ve never found ones for the Browns. Maybe I need to look harder!

  23. Sharon says:

Wow, I didn’t expect to like this (based solely on the title of your post) but I have to say I think they are cool.

I wouldn’t wear them, though, because they just aren’t my style but I do really like them.

  24. Jay says:

mmmm….I don’t think I like them, at all. Hahahaha, it’s just too much for me. I peronally only ever have mehndi up by my cuticles but i like them being clean and neat with nothing on it :)

I wonder if it will catch…

  25. Phyrra says:

I think I like this on other people.

  26. Robin says:

The first thing I thought was how quickly this would come off. To imitate it with nail polish will come right off because it doesn’t stick much to skin. Interesting.

  27. Shelby says:

Could be cool to try a couple times for a special occaison, but not going to be adding it into my regular nail repetoire.

  28. Natalia says:

I like the way they look (especially the one on a pinkie finger), but I just can’t stop thinking of the terrible view when the tattoos start to wear off…

  29. Laura says:

I tattooed three different cuticle/ pre nail bed designs today.
Shame I couldn’t post the images as I think they look awesome.

I hope to get them up on my website soon come and take a look !
