Zoya MatteVelvet Is BACK! See Swatches of the Returning Nail Polish Shades
With matte nails making a huge comeback this fall, it’s no surprise that Zoya is digging into their nail polish archives to resurrect the Zoya MatteVelvet lacquers. Four fan faves are going on pre-sale today, November 8th, at NOON with special pricing of $9 (reg. $10).
See which shades are making their triumphant return after the initial launch over four years ago!
Formula & Application: The Zoya MatteVelvet polishes are 5-Free and come in the signature tapered glass Zoya bottles only with a frosted finish. The cap is also frosted, giving it a great feel while polishing.
The MatteVelvets are intended to be worn without base or top coat. As it was explained to me HERE by Zoya VP Leo Reyzis, if you do wish to wear a base coat, make sure it is completely dry to avoid any lumpiness in application. Be warned, MatteVelvets can amplify imperfections in the nail so anyone with major ridges or pitting may want to skip these.
Also, even though the matte look is what we are going for here, the shimmer in these shades look amazing with a glossy top coat.
Zoya Dovima is a charcoal black with silver shimmer.
Zoya Posh is a burgundy red with tonal shimmer.
Zoya Savita is a grape with pinkish shimmer.
Zoya Veruschuka is an evergreen with light green shimmer.
The Zoya MatteVelvets are on Pre-Sale now for $9 (reg. $10) at Zoya.com and they all come in their own Luxury Gift Box. There is also a boxed trio containing Posh, Savita and Veruschuka for $24.
Are you happy to see the MatteVelvets return? Which shade is your favorite? Do you wear your mattes as intended or with a glossy top coat?
Disclosure: Product samples were provided by reps for Zoya. For more info view my Disclosure Policy.
I wish they would have brought Harlow back; been lemming her.
Sorry you missed out on her. Posh is definitely worth checking out, even though it’s not the same.
What’s the wear like on these without a base or topcoat?
Hi Lisa! On their own, they chip relatively quick. I posted a wear test a while ago: Zoya MatteVelvet 5 Day Wear Test. I highly recommend wearing a base coat. Just make sure it is completely dry before applying MatteVelvet.
OMG, I may finally get the chance to buy Veruschuka.
Oh, I hope you do!
Your posts and reviews always get me into trouble!! I love the swatches. I recently got into Zoya polish, so I didn’t experience their mattes before, wit the exception of the pixie dusts. I’m off to get the trio; hanging my head in shame.
No shame in your game. I realize I’m an enabler but nail polish is such an inexpensive indulgence. At least I’m not raving about $5000 handbags, right?
Love these, might have to pick up all four….
Do it! If you love the matte look, Zoya’s are worth checking out.
Wow, I would LOVE to see that green with a top coat. Beautiful, thanks for the swatches!
You’re so welcome. I’ll try to get a pic for you.
So excited! Ordered my trio already. =)
Yay! Let me know how you like the colors
It all started a couple years ago, you see, with me staring at my nails one day and thinking, “I really would like to be able to polish these things on my own.” In the past, I’d worn artificial nails for a few years. But same old story: loved the look, hated the cost. I went online, hoping I could find some site, maybe a blog even, that gave tips about how to self-apply nail polish and might even show some of the newer polishes being sold (stop laughing). I was, of course, overwhelmed. But I adjusted quickly and started browsing through dozens of nail blogs. One of the very first pictures of a mani I ever fell head over heels in love with was http://www.goosesglitter.com/2011/12/12-days-of-christmas-nails-day-4.html, especially the version where she topcoated just the tips, for a french mani look. Because of that beautiful mani on Goose’s Glitter blog, I began my very own lemming list with Zoya’s Veruschka and Posh. I found Veruschka on Zoya’s website. I’ve worn it a couple times and enjoyed it (I think maybe only Manglaze does mattes as well as Zoya…or vice versa) but it just seemed so lonely on my nails. It was as though my little bottle of Veruschka had also seen the picture on Goose’s Glitter blog and was forlorn without Posh. I looked in every online store I could find but, nope, no Posh. I finally came to the conclusion that Posh had been discontinued. I can’t tell you how many times I saw it on eBay or a blog sale and then was not successful at scoring it. Posh became my very own Clarins 230. Ohhhh, I wanted that polish! So when I read your post about Zoya bringing back the MatteVelvet collection, I literally said, out loud, volume increasing,”Oh, man, oh, man, oh, man, oh, man, oh,” you get the idea. Tomorrow I’m going to the only store I know that sells Zoya polishes. They don’t keep their stock very current but I have to check there first in case I luck out. However, if they don’t have it, I will be ordering Posh and the beautiful Savita from Zoya’s website tomorrow afternoon, shipping costs be darned! I can’t believe it…POSH!! Thank you so much for posting this news! Because of you, I’m getting my first and biggest lemming. I thank you and Veruschka thanks you too.
I’ve seen that picture of the matte red and green nails with a glossy tip go by so many times on Pinterest. It’s a gorgeous look. Thank you so much for sharing your story and I’m thrilled that you get your Clarins 230 lemming. I hope you love, love, love it.
After reading this post, I excitedly went to the Zoya website to read more about the release of the matte polishes. Of course, if I’d been paying better attention, I would have noticed that while they are indeed on pre-sale for $9, they aren’t going to be mailed until 11/20 (you may want to add that to the information in your post?). So off I went to the store to search for the mattes and, of course, they weren’t there. I came home and promptly ordered Posh and Savita (and saw then when they will be shipped). As I checked out, I was shown a notice saying they were already on backorder and mine will be shipped at a later date than 11/20. It’s all good though…I ended up buying three Zoyas at the store and (gulp) an additional six Zoyas along with Posh and Savita on Zoya.com! I actually bought 11 Zoyas yesterday. Guess who is on a no-buy for awhile? Thanks again!
Hi Delphi, that’s why I mentioned it was a pre-sale in the post. I should have been more specific about the shipping date but since those things tend to change, I wasn’t sure if heavy ordering would push back the date.
i like the red colour but i wonder if they would chip of your nails fast?
They do chip when you’re not wearing a base coat which is why I advocate wearing one. But, like I advised, make sure you let it dry completely before applying the matte.
Ooo! Thanks for posting these! They’re gorgeous. Guess I should’ve ordered Harlow & not Posh back when they first came out. Been hoping they’d re-release their mattes or at least make some more new ones. They’re gorgeous. I have these 3 and Loredana (the charcoal one).
Sorry you missed out on Harlow. You never know, it could make a comeback. Zoya does a great job of listening to their customer demands.
I never got to try the matte velvets, so I’m very happy! I’d love to grab Posh and Veruschuka I love em matte!
Let me know what you think!
Thanks for the post on our reissue of the Zoya MatteVelvet colors Michelle. You are so spot on, with the micro trend of matte nail polish going on, we just had to bring the best-sellers from this great collection of subtle shimmer mattes back. Best, Zoya Nail Polish
You’re so welcome! Thanks for bringing them back.
OMG!!! they are all so very pretty. Love the colors and the coverage. They are def perfect for any occasion. A must have and glad they have returned.
I am a failure at the new textured polishes. I often like the way they LOOK, but hate the texture on my nails so am forced to put on layers of topcoat until it’s all smooth and shiny. *sigh* Perhaps at my age (closing-in on 60) I am just too old-fashioned…although the blue, purple and green drawers in my Helmer are stocked and there is a single pink/mauve/red drawer that is fairly anemic.
Maybe I should try some mattes…
Mattes would be a great option if you want something different but don’t dig the texture. I say you are never too old. I see Joan Rivers rocking blue and green nails on Fashion Police and clap for her!
Ordered them all. I didn’t know about Zoya in 2009. So excited! If you did a top coat on the tips do you think the wear would last longer? I love that look
Hi Cindi! It should help it wear better. Plus it looks really chic.
These look like such beautiful winter polishes I love Savita, I imagine it would look amazing with top coat too!
I have owned Dovima since it’s original release, and to date it is still my favourite matte polish I own! Photos don’t do this polish any justice, it’s seriously stunning! I can’t wait to pick up the rest of this collection
Excellent! I hope you enjoy all your new colors
I’m pushing 67 don’t look or act it!!!..and, I wear mattes, suedes, all colors, just not anything like sand polishes.I don’t like the look..and ,I know I wouldn’t like the feel..I like a smooth nail.If I use glitter it has to be teeny tiny,on one nail or just the tips..don’t like the feel..so ladies don’t let your age stop you from partying with your nails! Matte nail polish is very smooth..it feels good to slide your fingers over your nails Ps.I also use Matte top coats..Mash brand has the best price!
ok so I read how the wear is not very long…up to 3 days, but is this on natural nails only ? How does it wear on arcylics?
Hi Rose! I’ve never worn it on acrylics but it would probably wear better than natural nails
