Dermelect Fall 2014 Bejeweled Collection Swatches & Review
Now that Labor Day is behind us, I feel like I can finally delve into the world of Fall nail color. We still have a few weeks of Summer left but, I’m already finding myself drawn to the rich shades of autumn.
The Dermelect Fall 2014 Bejeweled collection is so typical fall with a twist. Inspired by opulent jewel tones, this four-color collection sets itself apart with a range of finishes, from creme to texture.
Formula & Application
Dermelect ME nail polish is 5-Free and is the first peptide-infused nail color. It includes UV protection to prevent fading and discoloration. The square glass bottles, with their brushed metal caps, remind me of the RBL bottles. The brush is short, round and medium in width with flexible bristles that fan out easily on the nail without causing any dragging.
Because there is such variation of finishes in this collection, from creme to shimmer to texture, I will address the application individually below.
Dermelect Belle Epoque is a dark chocolate brown creme. There is red in the base, as opposed to yellow, so it’s a warmer brown overall. The consistency is very smooth but it dragged a bit on the nail so I needed three coats.
Dermelect Gilded is a textured, green-ish gold that shows a bit of duochrome, thanks to a bronze-y shimmer. While the texture trend seems to be waning, this is definitely a unique one in my collection. I used two coats for full coverage and really love how it looks with top coat, below. I used a coat of Gelous and then HK Girl to get it smooth.
Dermelect Heirloom is a deep indigo shimmer. The shimmer makes it look a lot more purple in the bottle than it does on the nail. It’s really smooth and pigmented, needing only two coats. Word of warning, this one stains so I suggest a ridge-filling base coat or two layers of a thinner base coat to protect the nail.
Dermelect Lustrous is a flecked, cognac shimmer. The metallic flecks give a color shift effect, looking fuchsia or gold depending on the angle. The base is a warm, browned red, with a fall leaves feel. It’s not the most pigmented polish so I needed three coats.
Bottom Line: I was still on board with texture last spring but I’m kind of over it. However, and this is a big however, Gilded is really unique. I’m totally making an exception for it though I’ll probably opt to wear it glossy. I’m also digging the autumnal feel of Lustrous. Heirloom is very pretty but the staining is a drawback. Belle Epoque gets points for its name that references a time of optimism, peace and prosperity.

Heirloom is my favorite of the swatches, and Gilded is my least favorite. I wasn’t crazy about the color. However, I still love textured polishes.
These are very nice!
Ooh! Gilded is so pretty! I especially love it glossy!
NEEEEED Gilded, omg. Both with and without top coat look incredible. NEED.
Love Lustrous!
I have tried this brand, and it seems to chip pretty fast, even with a good base and sealing my nail tips. Have you wore any of them for an extended time to test the wear? Both the colors I have are pastels, maybe I would have better luck with a dark shade, like that Indigo.
I don’t like colors that stain, but that indigo shade is hard to resist. Reminds me of Zoya Neve with the pink micro-shimmer.
Michelle, I spent half an hour this morning trying to get a beautiful deep blue polish off my toenails, so I’m just going to admire Heirloom from a safe (and non-swearing) distance. . .
The Lustrous is gorgeous! It’s dark and rainy here today, so a deep rich color like that has a lot of appeal.
I have a request that has nothing to do with polish but everything to do with technique. I can’t get a clean edge just above my cuticle, no matter how hard I try. Would you consider doing a video showing how to do it neatly (without smudging the rest of the nail)? I would be profoundly grateful, and my husband would stop learning new words.
