The Bronze Age – Bronze & Gold Lace Nail Art for My Blogiversary
Happy New Year! It’s crazy to think that it’s been eight years since I started All Lacquered Up. Eight years! It was a time when 3-Free was barely a thing. When I discovered a basically unknown brand at a Seattle airport kiosk called butter LONDON.
When I was the only nail blogger. When all of my nail polish fit in one cabinet as compared to needing its own room. So many amazing things have happened since then, so many changes. But one thing remains the same, my love of nail polish and desire to share it with you.
The traditional 8th anniversary gift is bronze and the modern gift is lace so I decided to combine the two in a bronze & gold lace nail art look. Take a trip down memory lane with me and enjoy my tribute manicure.
A Brief Look Back
When I was just one of the nail polish fanatics on the Makeup Alley Nail Board, I was turned on to Blogdorf Goodman. One of the godmother’s of beauty blogging, Annie’s love of fragrance and color and whimsical writing style drew me in.
It is through her that I discovered other OG beauty bloggers, Kristen from Beauty Addict and Erika from Makeup Bag. I never would have thought that, less than a year later, I would be meeting them on my very first beauty tour of New York.
A year later, a serendipitous meeting with Celebrity Manicurist Elle turned into a dream come true when we created the Fall 2009 Barielle All Lacquered Up collection. Elle has become a great friend and mentor and I’m proud to say that our creations are still part of the Barielle lineup with Falling Star being one of their best sellers.
When I first started writing about the nails seen at New York Fashion Week, I never dreamed I’d get the chance to cover the action from backstage, let alone attend the shows. I’ve had the privilege of reporting from the Bryant Park and Lincoln Center tents for 10 seasons and even had the thrill of sitting front row at Tracy Reese. A total “pinch me” moment, even if they misspelled my blog name.
Over the years, I’ve been so lucky to meet my beauty idols at fashion shows, trade shows and blogging conferences. Getting to interview them, learn about their journeys and grow alongside them has been incredible. I’m fortunate to even call some of them friends.
But some of the best relationships I’ve made are with my fellow bloggers. Blogging can be lonely, especially when you work from home all day. Cats and SiriusXM can only do so much to keep me from going bonkers. Having an online community of like-minded people to bounce ideas off of, vent to and share successes with has made this experience even better.
Bronze Lace Nail Art
To celebrate this milestone, I decided on a bronze and gold lace nail art design. I’m not a skilled freehand nail artist but combining fishnet and scalloped lace techniques involved minimal effort and gave the overall effect I wanted.
Get The Look
- Start with a base of Zoya Channing. I used two coats.
- Use a gold nail polish and nail art brush or a gold striper polish. I used Art Club Fine Gold. ($1.39, Amazon.com)
- Draw a thick diagonal line, starting at the middle of the nail, towards the opposite tip.
- Paint thinner, perpendicular lines towards the free edge of the nail
- Add 2-3 additional diagonal lines spaced evenly between the first line and free edge
- Layer dots of gold polish along the thick diagonal line
- Use a smaller dotting tool to add dots of bronze inside the gold scallops you created.
- Finish with a glossy top coat.
Finally, I want to send great big hugs to all of you. Your comments, emails and tweets over the years have made such an impact on my life. I feel like I know you and you know me and I appreciate each and every one of you for coming back to read my musings and join in on my adventures. ALU would be nothing without your love and support. MWAH!!!
If you have a favorite post or memory from over the years, Maybe a favorite collection, color or post I’ve written. I’d love to go all Flashback Friday with you.

Happy anniversary Michelle I’ve been an international fan of yours for 5 years, you are the best nail bloggers around. my favourite blog was opi’s Swiss collection for winter 2010. You had me at you don’t know Jacques XD and I love the pantone colour of the year entries. Looking forward to this years colour.here’s to many more years of nail trends and feeding my polish addiction x
You are an amazing woman and blogger, and you should rightly be proud of all your accomplishments. I love your nail art, and I so appreciate you continuing to share your journey with us, your readers!
Many congrats!
Congratulations, 8 yes is a wonderful accomplishment. I love this blog and look forward to seeing what the next 8 have in store!!! Happy New Year n Anniversary!
Hi Michelle! Congratulations on your anniversary! I’ve been a reader since the early days. My favorite recent post of yours was this one: http://www.alllacqueredup.com/2014/12/opi-fifty-shades-of-grey-swatches-review.html & my favorite older post of yours was this one (groundbreaking! & the first place I read about this new nail product): http://www.alllacqueredup.com/2010/03/introducing-cnd-shellac-hybrid-nail-color.html Over the past few months, I’ve switched to gel manicures only (mainly using OPI gel polish) because I got so sick of regular nail polish chipping & waiting for it to dry. That Shellac post of yours truly heralded a new era in nail polish! I now don’t know what to do with all of the (regular) nail polish I have horded over the years.
I have had a fun time learning about nail blogging since May 2014 and have enjoyed rekindling my passion for nail art that I had as a kid! Yours is my home base blog. Your attention to detail is above and beyond! Thanks for giving me such fun reading material and a place to connect w/like-minded folks this year!
Happy anniversary! !!
Thanks Jeanne! Hope I’ll run into you around town sometime soon.
Congratulations and happy blogiversary! How exciting! I love the lacy and bronze mani. Beautiful!
Thank you Sherri! It was my first attempt at anything as detailed as lace. It was fun
I enjoy your blog so much. Congratulations on eight years!
Aww, thank you Sue!
I only found you two years ago. Congrats on 8 years! That’s a really pretty manicure.
Thank you Cindi! I’m glad you found me and keep coming back.
Grats on your blogiversary!!
Thanks Amanda! It’s been a fun ride
It’s so nice to look back to all those beautiful memories.I’m a recent fan of your blog and have always been an all nails lover and little by little I’m exploring your site just to fall in love with so many shades and learning unlimited tips for my everyday mani. Thanks Michelle.
I’m so glad you found me and that you’re enjoying looking back at my old content. Thanks!
8 years… wow!! Congratulations!
The posts I like best are the elections for Emerald and Radiant Orchid polish of the year. It was so much fun to see all those different polishes (and I have to admit I picked up more than a few just because of those posts…)
Thanks Joyce! I’m so glad you enjoy them. I’m already starting to gather my Marsalas for this year’s round.
I’ve followed your blog since… maybe 2008? I’m not sure about the specifics, but you were definitely the most reliable place for swatches and reviews, especially when OPI and China Glaze collections were released… such an enabler. jk Nowadays everyone and their mom has a nail blog, but your site has always been a regular on my list of bookmarked pages. Cheers to your 8 years, congrats!
Thanks Charli! You’re right, the amount of nail blogs now is mind blowing. It’s so fun to read everyone’s thoughts on different colors and what gems they find.
Happy Anniversary Michelle! Eight years is a long time. Congrats on all of your success and experiences I love reading your blog and learning from you for my own blog. Hope you continue to blog for years to come!!
Thank you! I’ll keep doing it as long as you keep reading it
Congratulations Michelle!! I remembered discovering your blog in early 2010 – I think I was looking for some China Glaze Swatches (the Up & Away collection, if I remember correctly. Four Leaf Clover is still one of my faves!!) and stuck around Your swatches are always spot on, and I can always count on your reviews to be honest & good. Thankyou!! Cheers to 2015, and another year of blogging!! (My blog just turned 4 and I can’t believe it’s been that long – feels like yesterday xo
Thanks Brittany. I still love the purple from that collection, and Four Leaf Clover, of course.
Happy Anniversary!
Thanks Jammies!!
That is pretty nail art
Thank you Heather!
Congrats! This was the 1st nail polish blog I came across, and it turned me on to a new world!
Aww, that’s so great to hear. Thank you!
My favorite posts I keep coming back to on this blog are the Finger Paints Poolside Paradise collection (I finally bought the entire set on eBay), the Zoya Tickled and Bubbly collection, and your Maybelline Color Show Bleached Neons dotticure. I haven’t tried it yet, but I often search for it just to remind myself that I’ve gotta do it some day!
PS: Also your “best yellows” post had me searching for quite some time. I wonder how the yellow from the OPI Peanuts collection compares to I Just Can’t Cope-acabana.
Congratulations!!!!
I’ll always be grateful to your blog for turning me onto Zoya polish. I’m completely obsessed now thanks to your amazing reviews and swatches. I double check nearly every purchase against your blog now, because I know you won’t lie to me!
Aww, that is so great to hear. I’m glad you like Zoya as much as I do
Michelle, I am probably your oldest fan. This coming April I will be
78. Before I found your blog I did not not own a bottle of polish. Today I own a chest full and follow your sugestions for doing my own nails. I love it and my friends admire my new found pastime. I want to wish you a happy anniversary. God bless you in all your endeavors
