Chanel SoHo Story Collection & Fashion’s Night Out Events

To celebrate the reopening of the CHANEL Boutique in SoHo, CHANEL Global Creative Director of Makeup Peter Philips has created a limited edition collection that echoes the spirit of SoHo. “For me, SoHo is a place where Bohemian ideals meet the toughness of the city… I love the tension and energy this creates.” says Peter Philips.

Quite a few of you have asked me about these LE nail colors launching exclusively at the Chanel SoHo Boutique on September 10th for Fashion’s Night Out. I’ve been awaiting official word regarding the release before saying anything.  Similar to the popular Robertson Boulevard Collection, these colors were created to celebrate the launch with a very specific theme in mind.

The SOHO STORY Collection is a study in extreme contrasts, partnering feminine pinks and roses with strong, industrial metallics. From pretty cheekbones to anthracite nails, tender creams and flashes of metal simultaneously reflect and contradict each other. “I had a specific girl in mind who is both hard and soft. A girl who discovers a new city, a new life.” adds Peter Philips. “This is a very special kind of New York woman. She is innocent, but she has a steely determination that fuels the city.”

The collection’s SOHO DE CHANEL Exclusive Creation reflects a Pop Art influence. Stamped with the four letters of SoHo, this silky powder comes in a delicate palette of shades and, when dusted across the face, creates a subtle, natural glow.

The nail colors retail for $25/ea and include a charcoal gray, Steel, and red grape, Strong.  They will be joined by a Quadra Eye Shadow, Rouge Coco lip color, Rouge Allure Lacque, Glossimer and the SoHo De Chanel powder mentioned above.

The collection will be on sale on Chanel.com on Tuesday, September 7th while the in store release will coincide with the Chanel Fashion’s Night Out events happening at Chanel boutiques all over the country.

On September 10th, select Chanel Boutiques will have a Nail Bar available offering manicures with the Les Khakis De Chanel collection.  Stop by the SoHo, Bal Harbour, Beverly Hills, Dallas, Ala Moana and Wynn (Vegas) boutiques to get a Chanel manicure and celebrate one of the biggest nights in fashion.

I’ll be stopping by the SoHo boutique on September 10th so if any of you NYC Fanatics plan to be there, let me know.  Maybe we could make an informal meetup happen.

Chanel Jade & Paradoxal Dupe Smackdown

chanel-jade-paradoxal-dupe-swatch-comparisons With every new Chanel nail polish launch the inevitable question is, are there any affordable alternatives?  More often than not the answer is no.  Chanel seems to find a way to add a little something special to their nail colors that make dead-on dupes an impossibility.  Of course there are plenty of nail polishes that come close but Chanel twins are usually hard to come by.

After the Chanel Jade craze last fall a number of brands came out with their own less expensive version of the pale green shimmer, most notably Charlotte Russe Jade and Claire’s Dream Catcher.  And now Milani has entered the ring with their interpretation, Dress Maker. Back when I reviewed Chanel Paradoxal I was hard pressed to find any decent comparisons and then a reader email led me to Models Own Purple Grey.

Read on to see how these budget conscious versions stand up to two of Chanel’s most buzzed about nail creations.  Let the smackdown begin!

Chanel Paradoxal Swatch, Review & Comparison

chanel-paradoxal-le-vernis-nail-polish-bottle-fall-2010 Coco Chanel’s iconic style was a study in contrasts. She boldly mixed black and white, masculine and feminine, classic and modern. Paying tribute to her unique vision, Peter Philips, Global Creative Director of CHANEL Makeup, has created a makeup collection for Fall 2010 that brings bold emphasis to the eyes, and keeps lips soft and delicate.

I am the furthest thing from a style icon but I can still relate to the contrasting theme of Chanel’s Fall 2010 makeup collection.  In some ways I am a walking paradox.  A math and science girl like me could never have imagined a career as a blogger.  As a Chemical Engineering major, I dropped out of Freshman English three times.  True story!

Keeping the emphasis on the eyes and nails, Peter Philips has mixed dark and stormy with sweet and feminine and the star of the show for me is Paradoxal, a grey violet shade that the wordsmiths at AOL StyleList have dubbed “griolet.”

Coming Soon – Chanel Paradoxal and A New Blue

Chanel-paradox-nail-polish-Fall-Makeup-Collection-2010 Back in March during the Chanel Fall 2010 runway show we learned that Chanel Global Creative Makeup Director Peter Philips was bringing back Jade Rose from the Jade Collection this Fall.

Jade Rose was kind of lost in the craze over Jade last year so it gets a second chance at stardom. Though thanks to my girl Izzy from Musings of a Muse we see that Jade Rose has some stiff competition in the murky purple-tinged Paradoxal. I know I can’t wait to get my hands on it!

chanel-cruise-baby-blue-nail-polish In other Chanel news, the Cruise 2010-2011 collection made its runway debut this week with the models sporting both Jade Rose and an unnamed baby blue nail polish that will be released sometime in the future. If history tells us anything, I’m thinking we may see this as part of a limited edition collection a la the Paris Shanghai and Paris Moscou collections.
