ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – China Glaze Blue Iguana from the Island Escape Collection
365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.
Today was one of those days where I couldn’t decide what nail polish I wanted to wear. We all have those days, don’t we? I was blankly staring at bottles, sifting through Helmer drawers and feeling pretty uninspired. I haven’t been sleeping well this week so I blame my polish malaise on that. I finally started swatching a bunch of random colors on my nails, hoping to be wowed. I tried a few colors before cracking open China Glaze Blue Iguana from the Island Escape collection. When Blue Iguana first arrived it didn’t look like much in the bottle, an average blue shimmer but it turned out to be more than that. |
ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – China Glaze Rapture

In case you had not heard, California preacher Harold Camping predicted a “rapture” would come down upon us today starting at 6pm in each time zone. Since our fellow Australian fanatics were unharmed earlier today, I think it’s safe to poke a little fun at the impending doom. In fact, the boyfriend and I are going to a Rapture Happy Hour and myself and a lot of my FourSquare friends checked in to “The Rapture.” If we’re going out, may as well go having fun. So why not wear a Rapture inspired manicure, right? Oddly enough China Glaze Rapture is in my untrieds pile. I almost forgot I had it. It’s one of the famed holographic glitter polishes from the Urban Chic collection along with Crystal Ball and Grape Crush. While I’ve worn the latter two shades multiple times, Rapture has yet to grace my tips. |
ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – Models Own Moody Grey and China Glaze Crushed Candy Crackle Glaze

Today’s manicure was inspired by turquoise rings I saw on Tumblr. I know I’m so late to the Tumblr party but I’m really enjoying it. Anywho, when I saw those rings I reblogged the pic stating that if crackle nail polish could create veining like what appears on those rings, I would be more into it. Now I’ve made it pretty clear that I’m on the fence when it comes to crackle. I’ve seen people use it in ways that look good, like Kellie Gonzo’s manicure using OPI Silver Shatter, but for the most part I haven’t been its biggest fan. Today while attempting to replicate a turquoise ring using Models Own Moody Grey and China Glaze Crackle Glaze in Crushed Candy I may have leaned a bit more in crackle’s favor. I wouldn’t go printing me a Team Crackle tee shirt just yet but I “could” get there. |
China Glaze Anchors Away Spring 2011 Collection – Knotty Nauticals Swatches & Review
The Knotty Nauticals set from the China Glaze Anchors Away collection for Spring 2011 is filled with rich, bold cremes and glimmering glass flecks.
It’s common knowledge in the boating community that there is a long standing rivalry between power & sail boaters. As a kid I would watch Ohio’s version of Jimmy Buffet, Pat Dailey, rile up the power & sail boaters at the Beer Barrel on Put-In-Bay. This was long before it burned to the ground and rose from the ashes to become the world’s longest bar. And yes, I was a kid in a bar. Let the Sweet Home Alabama analogies begin. Anyway, Pat would taunt each side with stereotypes. That sailors are wine sipping fuddy-duddy’s who look at the water as a relaxing escape. That power boaters are beer chugging, party people who look at the water as a mode of transport, something to rip through. Granted these are heavy generalizations but in some cases they hold true. In my eye the Sand & Sea set is a smooth afternoon cruise on a sailboat and the Knotty Nauticals are a wind-whipping, wild ride on a speed boat. They represent both sides of the boater in me who appreciates the zen of sailing but loves the thrill of zipping across the lake. |
