China Glaze Anchors Away Spring 2011 Collection – Sand & Sea Swatches & Review
I can’t begin to tell you how apropos it is that China Glaze created the nautical themed Anchors Away collection for Spring 2011. You see I grew up sailing. As a child I spent every weekend of my summers on my parents’ sailboat cruising the shores of Lake Erie. It was such a huge part of my life that even though I’m not exactly a fan of sailing (it can be boring), being on the water is an essential piece of who I am.
It’s always been part of my life plan to have a boat of my own to enjoy everything Lake Erie has to offer. The Lake Erie islands, the Sandusky Bay area, it’s all so beautiful and fun. This spring my dream of summering on a boat just may come true. The boyfriend and I are signing up for a safe boating course and starting to shop for our own floating home away from home which has me on an all things nautical high. I’ve been shopping for new deck shoes, conjuring up boat names, contemplating the boat themed manicures I’ll wear, etc. And after seeing a mani/pedi combo using the navy and orange cremes from this collection, I already know what is going on my nails first. But before we get into the bold Knotty Nauticals let’s take a look at the softer side of the Anchors Away collection, the Sand & Sea six piece set. |
China Glaze Anchor’s Away Sneak Peek – Below Deck, Pelican Gray and Sea Spray
Ever since I used China Glaze Sea Spray, from the Spring 2011 Anchor’s Away collection, in my Emmy night manicure I’ve been counting the days til Spring.
Normally Spring nail color collections leave me yawning but I’m not so patiently waiting to get my hands on the bold brights and delicate cremes that make up the nautical inspired collection. The sailor in me can’t wait to replicate the mani/pedi combo I saw at Cosmoprof using Life Preserver (orange) and First Mate (navy). It’s a match made in nail heaven. To help pull me out of my nail polish funk I turned to the few Anchor’s Away colors I have on hand. So while we wait to see the collection in full I have a little sneaky peek at a few shades; Below Deck, Pelican Gray and Sea Spray. |
China Glaze Holiday 2010 – Blue & Greens Swatches, Review & Comparisons
China Glaze has definitely been Naughty AND Nice this year. Nice for releasing so many cute holiday gift sets and a fun range of colors but Naughty for overwhelming us with so many options.
Unlike the past few years where they’ve released just a few holiday shades, for Holiday 2010 the ‘Tis The Season to be naugty and nice collection consists of 16 nail polishes. That’s right, SIXTEEN! To make it easier to take in, I’ve broken down the collection into its three main color families; Blue & Green, White, Silver & Gold and Red & Vampy. We’ll start with my obvious favorite the lone blue (Little Drummer Boy), three greens (Jolly Holly, Mistletoe Kisses, Peace On Earth) and the multi-colored glitter bomb (Party Hearty). |
Katy Perry’s Avant-Garde Lace Nails
When Katy Perry posted “Glove tip lace nails anyone?” on Twitter yesterday along with this pic I knew that Celebrity Manicurist Kimmie Kyees had to be involved and I was right. We’ve seen lace used to cover the entire nail before but this is something new. Kimmie shared that these nails were created for a photo shoot but she couldn’t reveal which one so be on the lookout as Kimmie is hoping they make the cover!
Get The Look: “She wanted beige so I used nail tips from Broadway Nails and polished them in China Glaze polishes; Modern Elegance topped Nude. What an amazing shade that combination created.”
“I took out my lace and noticed the V shape. I decided to cut along the V’s and place it in the polish from the cuticles towards the free edge. Leaving the lace on the end came to me after I placed it. I tried the tips on myself and loved the effect. When I showed [the people from the magazine] what they looked like on, they were relived and impressed! Luckily Katy and the rest of the glam squad agreed it looked fantastic. Katy said she loved them!”
China Glaze Modern Elegance is a discontinued color from the Urban Chic/Platinum series but I did find it on eBay and Victoria Nail Supply. China Glaze Nude also looks to be dc’d but it’s available on eBay and VNS as well.
What do you think of this look on Katy? I’m thinking it could be something fun to try for a Halloween costume, like a gothic bride or something. Would you wear this nails and for what occasion? Have you tried incorporating lace into your nail style?
