Surf Summer Comparison Shots

I dug through ALL of my polishes and came up with what I think are the best comparisons for the China Glaze Surf Summer colors. I was quite surprised to find that the majority of them are from China Glaze and Creative. I think it’s because the finish and formula of most OPI, Essie, Misa and Orly polishes are nothing like the jelly-like quality of China Glaze’s shimmer polishes.

The waves are breaking and I’m ready for summer. Look what hit my doorstep this morning. The new Surf Summer collection from China Glaze. A well themed collection of brights with fun names. Unlike brights of the past, this collection is very wearable. There really is something for everyone.

These are preliminary shots that I snagged during a rare moment of Ohio sunshine. Be sure to check back for comparison shots. I’m all about the new but I’d hate for you all to be buying dupes.

The colors are:
Blk-Bila-Bong (black w/ blue shimmer)
Red-Curl-Grl (red w/ pink shimmer)
Orange-Pacific (orange w/ gold shimmer)
Pink-Rox-E (pink w/ gold shimmer)
Yell-O-Neil (yellow w/ gold shimmer)
White-Kwik-Silver (white w/ silver shimmer)

NOTD – China Glaze Eyes Like Sapphires

In honor of the Columbus Blue Jackets hockey team, I decided to go BLUE! I’m going to see them play the Detroit Red Wings tonight at Nationwide Arena and wanted to show my team support. Don’t tell the Blue Jackets but I’m really a Red Wings fan at heart.

So, I love the color and the silver micro-glitter but there’s something about the formula used in the We Adorn You collection that’s not working for me. I had this same problem with Soft Sienna Silks from this collection. It doesn’t apply as evenly as my other China Glaze polishes. And application, in addition to color range, is one of the things I love most about China Glaze.

Drinkin’ My Blues Away from the Spring ’06 Tequila Toes collection is very similar to this color. But, unlike Eyes Like Sapphires, it has that jelly, glaze-like consistency that I’ve come to know and love about China Glaze polishes. I also got some bubbling from this color and I don’t know if it’s my technique or the polish that caused it.

On a side note, it is freezing here in Ohio. The snow is coming down and I’m not looking forward to driving to Columbus this afternoon. In the middle of all this weather there’s me, outside with my camera taking pictures of my hands, trying to avoid getting snow on the lens. The lengths I go to for a good pic. I can only imagine what my neighbors think. I wonder if I’m the crazy neighbor lady that everyone talks about. Oh my, I hope that’s not me.

So, what’s on your nails today? Is it a keeper?

The Black Polish Trend

I wouldn’t be a true polish fanatic if I didn’t pay homage to the biggest trend to hit the polish world since Uma Thurman donned Chanel Vamp in Pulp Fiction. Chanel’s introduction of Black Satin caused a frenzy like I have never seen. The insane eBay prices, the story about Sarah Michelle Gellar stealing one from a party, the waiting lists at Chanel counters for a re-release, it’s madness. Pure madness. And with the release of Chanel’s new black for spring, Noir Ceramic, the craze continues.

The truth is, black polish isn’t for everyone. It doesn’t suit all skin tones or tastes. It doesn’t make you an un-stylish buffoon if you don’t love black polish. Wear what you like or wear nothing at all, there is no right or wrong. Just keep your nails presentable.

I personally refused to give in to Chanel. I’m here to tell you that there are options for everyone. If you want to join the dark polish trend but don’t want to go for full on black or give in to eBay prices for Chanel, I’m here to help. From my personal collection, I present my “best of” vampy polishes. With the exception of the polishes marked (DC’d), all of these are available in drugstores, salons or through the online e-tailers I have listed in my links.

(l-to-r) Misa Stiletto, Milani Black Cherry, Zoya Yasmeen, OPI Lincoln Park At Midnight, OPI Black Tie Optional (DC’d)

(l-to-r) Revlon Dark Pleasures Talk Dirty, Creative NFS, Creative Blue Blood (DC’d), Misa Blueberry Glaze, China Glaze Up All Night, Revlon Dark Pleasures Midnight Affair

(l-to-r) OPI Espresso Your Style, Orly Talk Dirty, Creative Fedora, Sinful Colors Black on Black, Zoya Raven, Orly Goth, Misa Wishing On A Star
