ALU NYFW NOTD Challenge SS11 – Day 6
No, I didn’t forget how to count, there is no Day 5 in my NYFW NOTD Challenge. Day 5 was my NAIL FAIL day as I didn’t meet my own challenge to change my nail color daily. The best part, I was totally called out on it by my blends (blogging friends) Amber & Kristen.
Though Amber is partly to blame for my failure as I was out having a few too many adult beverages with her and Nance the night before. The last thing I wanted to think about at the end of the night was changing my polish. So with Day 5 behind me I couldn’t resist breaking out the CND Jason Wu Collection for Day 6. Being that I wasn’t able to attend the show I couldn’t get my hands on one of the special sets gifted to attendees but CND Co-Founder and Creative Director Jan Arnold was extremely generous, giving up her own personal set to me. Can you even? |
The Jason Wu Collection from CND
This just in! While the CND team is working away prepping the models at Jason Wu we get word of a collaboration between the designer & CND.
Fashion designer Jason Wu is collaborating with runway manicure leader CND to introduce a limited edition Jason Wu Collection that honors iconic women through wearable, timeless shades. The set will come with 4 Colours and 1 Effect that can be layered to achieve the designer’s effortless yet elegant nail styles.
“Every season I play with different ways of using color in my collection, so it was a natural choice to collaborate with CND on a capsule of nail colors that reflects my aesthetics. Included in the set is my signature gray color,” says Jason Wu.
These fabulously femme Colours provide rich coverage and everyday accessibility:
Miss Wu – Jason’s signature limestone, warm gray that dries matte with subtle chrome sheen, in perfect harmony of masculinity and femininity
Brigitte – voluptuous warm pink that perfectly channels 50′s screen siren
Sophia – gorgeous mushroom taupe
Veronica – highlights the evolution of decadence with a blue-based, oxblood red
Anna Effect – layered over any of the four Colours provides a tweed finish via microscopic fibrous pieces that create cool, subtle texture
CND’s Torrie Savickis posted this pic via her Twitter.
Jason Wu and CND have joined forces on the runway for the past eight seasons. This color collection is Jason Wu’s first foray into nail products, and CND’s first designer product partnership. The full collection will be introduced at Jason Wu’s Spring 2011 runway show where audience members will receive a complimentary set.
The Jason Wu Collection will be available for purchase in salons and via CND.com in May 2011. Suggested retail price is $47. The collection will be sold globally while supplies last.
I don’t know exactly what a “tweed effect” will look like but I know I want it! What say you?
NYFW SS11 – Backstage at Ruffian with CND & MAC
Ruffian is not just a clothing line, it’s now part of the lacquer lexicon. Last season’s ridiculously popular moon manicure from the Ruffian FW runway with its matte blue base and chrome gold moon set the nail world a flutter. Dubbed the Ruffian Manicure, numerous blogs have shared their take of CND’s creation. I especially loved Lacquerized’s matte & glossy version (she posted a fab step-by-step).
Fast forward to Spring/Summer ’11. Ruffian and CND have done it again. This season they go for a very French full moon manicure that includes colored tips as well. I remember spying a similar look using pastels on the Christian Dior couture runway in 2007 which I believe CND created as well. |
Get The Nail Look – Rihanna in the “I Love The Way You Lie” Video
A few days ago ALU reader Casey contacted me asking about Rihanna’s intense red nails in Eminem’s “I Love The Way You Lie” video. The flaming hue that matched her colorful hair definitely stood out against the fiery backdrop.
You couldn’t help but notice her nails and I LOVE that she worked them in the camera giving us all an up close look. Of course the woman responsible for this look is none other than Celebrity Manicurist Kimmie Kyees. She’s Rihanna’s go-to gal and, as always, her work was spot on. Curious about what she used?

CND Monday – CND Shellac Wear & Removal Review
In this special edition of CND Monday, ALU contributor Christine shares her CND Shellac experience with us.
Last Monday Christine talked about the Shellac application process and now after a full four weeks of wear she’s back to give us her verdict on how it held up on her nails and what the removal process was like. I saw Christine about three weeks into her wear test and outside of the growth issue, her polish still looked flawless. No nicks, dents or chips. What makes that even more impressive is this is a girl who plays roller derby with Cleveland’s own Burning River Roller Girls. She takes a beating on the regular and still her Shellac held up. ps remember when I wrote about seeing Whip It? Christine was the friend I mentioned. Let’s see the final results, shall we? |
