Oh for the love of all things polish, I just about DIED when I saw British Beauty Blogger’s MAC Give Me Liberty preview.  An adorned bottle… a grayed blue creme… need I say more??  I seriously felt my pulse race.  Do I have something in my collection that is similar?  Probably.  Do I care?  HELL NO!  This collection is slated to launch in April and it better come to the US.  MAC gods, make it so!

***UPDATE – The collection launches March 11th in the US (thanks for the heads up Jennifer)***

Am I alone in my excitement?  Who else is with me?  Or am I just letting my inner MAC-addict get the best of me?  You know I’m a sucker for special packaging.  After all I have my Barbie, Fafi, Heatherette and Hello Kitty collection products still in their boxes.  It’s a sickness and I’m not looking for a cure!

I’ve long said that in regards to polish MAC does dark and glittery colors best. Vin Goth, one of my all time fave shades, is a perfect example. The recently launched Style Black collection is the ideal vehicle to showcase their lacquer strong suit. With black makeup, including the hard-to-pull-off black lipstick, making a huge statement this season the dark polishes in this collection are an ideal compliment. Check them out after the jump!

Jin Soon for MAC Nail Trend FW09

The launch date is upon us Fanatics. The MAC Nail Trend collection created by Jin Soon is launching next week! When I first wrote about the polishes in July, August 27th seemed like forever and a day away. Seriously, where did the summer go? Well, if you’re mourning the end of the season you can rejoice in the coming of Nail Trend. I’ve got the entire collection swatched for you after the jump and in case you missed it, click here for more details on the collection.

We’ve discussed MAC’s formula in the past but here’s a quick recap. MAC polishes are 3 Free and tend to be somewhat thick. Their cremes are generally streaky but the darker shades are workable and the glitters are phenom (Hello Vin Goth I’m talking to you!). I tend to use three coats with the majority of their polishes to avoid streaks and my preferred method is two very thin coats followed by a third thicker coat.

What I noted this time that I’ve meant to mention in the past is my love for the MAC polish brush. There’s something about the density and size of their brush that makes controlling the polish practically goof proof. I rarely can create that perfect rounded line of color at my cuticle but it’s always pretty darn close with MAC’s brush. Now onto the colors.

In my previous Nail Trend post I mentioned our (Jin & I) mutual love of green so seeing Beyond Jealous backstage at Doo.Ri wasn’t a huge surprise, more an utter joy! There are not enough greens for this fanatic and while there may be some close dupes to this blackened teal, I still got giddy applying it. As I told my pal Heather from MAC, Beyond Jealous is Beyond Stunning!
Cool Reserve is a shade the piqued my interest based on description alone. Dirty, grey lavender… you’re talking my language. It’s a lighter more greyed version of my fave from last fall, OPI Parlez Vous OPI?
Rich, Dark, Delicious reminds me of an old Special Dark bar. Random I know but you get what I mean, right? When you find an old candy bar and there’s a layer of dusty whiteness on top. This rich brown has an undertone of charcoal to give a hint of that effect. And even though you can see a bit of silvery shimmer in the bottle, it dries creamy on the nail. You’d have to be looking in some pretty bright light to see it.
I reviewed the next three colors previously but I’m re-posting my thoughts for you here.

Dry Martini is a deep olive that leans towards brown, like a dark army camouflage green. It’s edgy and funky and a nice change from the more emerald/forest shades we’ve seen in seasons past. In case you’re wondering, and I’m sure you are, it’s much darker and more browned than last fall’s RBL No More War.

For Fun is just that, a spunky, bright red-grape. It’s a bit more red based looking in person but I just couldn’t capture it dead on.

Dance All Night’s brick red hue reminds me of one of my all time fave OPI reds, That’s An “EL” Of A Color, minus the golden shimmer. It’s rich, warm and very fall.
The MAC Nail Trend collection by Jin Soon launches in stores on August 27th. It should be online at MACCosmetics.com on Tuesday the 25th as they tend to launch online a couple days early. The polishes retail for $12/ea.

So spill… who’s buying? Which colors? What do you think of MAC polishes? Do you have any LE shades you wish they’d bring back? Inquiring minds want to know.

MAC Nail Trend FW09 by Jin Soon

BACKSTAGE AND FRONT ROW, NAIL TREND HAS ARRIVED! More than a colour statement, an of-the-moment approach that dazzles with innovation and style.

I’m sure by now you’ve heard the rumors that MAC is releasing a collection of six creme nail lacquers created by renowned nail artist Jin Soon. I met Jin last fall at her UES spa and she hinted at a future brand collaboration but wasn’t able to release details since it was still in the planning stages. Well, all I can say is BRAVO Jin!

As a leading nail artist in the fashion and beauty industry, Jin has worked with top fashion designers like Oscar de la Renta, Derek Lam and Doo.Ri, as well as famed photographers Steven Meisel, Irving Penn and Annie Leibovitz. She is a master at nail art (see March’s Teen Vogue) and a lover of editorial nail colors. When we met we discussed our mutual love of green and wow did she bring it to this collection. There are two, count them TWO, gorgeous greens in Nail Trend. Check them out!

I got my first peek at the collection backstage at the Doo.Ri show during NY Fashion Week. Jin was applying Beyond Jealous, a blackened teal creme, to the models’ nails. You know I flipped for it, right? If left alone too long, I may have been tempted to snag a bottle for myself.

The deep green was chosen by the designer to work with the romantic, gothic look that makeup artist Tom Pecheux created using a palette of white, black and gray MAC products.

When asked about the inspiration for the colors Jin said, “My husband is an architect, and I am constantly drawing inspiration and colour ideas from his creations. I also have tons of exposure to fashion trends through my work at the fashion shows and on magazine shoots. I wanted to create colours that were not only incredibly fashion-forward and edgy, with an editorial feel to them but also were totally wearable for the everyday women. I love all of the colours but am especially excited about the green hues: Dry Martini and Beyond Jealous. I think come Fall ‘09, green is going to be THE colour.” We are so on the same wavelength because I couldn’t agree more!

I had the opportunity to test a few of the colors prior to launch and while some MAC colors give me application issues, the three I tried were fab. I’ve always said that MAC does dark and shimmery shades best and these are no exception. All three are well pigmented and applied with no streaking. Only Dry Martini required three coats.

The entire Nail Trend lineup includes:
Cool Reserve – DIRTY GREY LAVENDER
For Fun – RICH CLEAN PURPLE
Dance All Night – BRICK RED
Dry Martini - KHAKI OLIVE GREEN
Rich, Dark, Delicious – RICH BLACKENED BROWN
Beyond Jealous – BLACKENED BLUE GREEN

The MAC Nail Trend collection by Jin Soon launches on August 27th and the polishes retail for $12/ea. You can buy them online at MACCosmetics.com and at MAC counters nationwide.

You know I’ll be first in line to pick up bottles of the rest of these colors. I can’t even think about Beyond Jealous and Cool Reserve not being in my life. Which ones will you be adding to your collection?
