A browned wine shade, Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2015 is Marsala. It’s so 90s, like Brenda Walsh’s lipstick on 90210. And given that we have similar coloring, I wore the heck out of it myself. In fact, I recently discovered an old tube of Estee Lauder marsala-colored lipstick at the bottom of backpack purse, buried in a trunk with some things from college. Yes, I said backpack purse. It was green suede and I wore it everywhere!
Longtime readers know that I host a March Madness-style nail polish battle for the Color of the Year, last year it was Radiant Orchid Madness. Flash back to Spring 2012. I’m listening to Jennifer Hutt on Sirius XM Stars as she spends an entire hour asking people to call in if they’ve read some book called Fifty Shades of Grey. Apparently all the mom’s in her Jersey suburb were reading the Twilight fan fiction and calling it “mommy porn.”
Six months later everyone and their mother was talking about it so, of course, I gave in and read the first book. I’m sure I don’t have to tell you that the writing is awful. AW-FUL! Regardless, come February, the X-rated phenomenon will come to the big screen and OPI has partnered with the film to bring us six inspired shades.
I’ve long been a fan of grey polish, even after it was bastardized into griege and griolet, and happily welcome new versions into my collection. So, even if I’m not jazzed about the movie, I’m all in on the OPI Fifty Shades of Grey collection.

Take this past Saturday, for instance. I had the best intentions of creating a fun look for my friend’s wedding. The reality… I was shopping all day and by the time I got home, the best I could do was throw a gold glitter over my navy mani. Done and done!
