revlon top speed emerald nail polish 365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.

You guys! I am simply flabbergasted and overwhelmed by all your lovely comments, emails and tweets. The love and thoughtfulness of the blogosphere is truly amazing. Thank you, thank you, thank you! As a quick update, my daddy is home and feeling much much better and the outlook on his health is positive. If it taught me anything it’s to take the best possible care of yourself. It’s something I’ve been failing to do and why I have made some changes myself, including joining Weight Watchers. So if you’re looking for a WW buddy, I’m here!

Now let’s talk polish, shall we? If you remember my Revlon Vixen review, you’ll recall that I straight up HATED the formula. It was a bubble filled disaster. Well based on a comment suggesting that I give the Revlon Top Speed line a try I decided that instead of completely writing off the brand I would give it one last go with Revlon Emerald. Let’s see how it fared.

ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – Revlon Vixen

revlon vixen nail polish a known chanel vamp dupe 365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.

Back when the Makeup Alley Nail Board first started, one of its members started a list of “known dupes.” Revlon Vixen was one of the first on the list as a twin for the original Chanel Vamp, not the shimmery version that it became.

Now I had been wanting a bottle of Vamp ever since it first appeared on Uma Thurman’s nails in Pulp Fiction but, at the time, Chanel was not in my budget. So I ran out and bought a bottle of Vixen and it has literally sat in my collection ever since. At the time it wasn’t necessarily a color I was into, it was more that I just needed to own it. Since then, I guess I’ve just forgotten about it. So much for that “need” I thought I had.

Outside of its dupe status, Vixen is a staple shade in its own right. One of those classics that most nail fanatics have. Here’s the deal though. My bottle is probably seven years old but since it’s unopened you would think it would be fine to use. Um, not so much. What a disaster of bubbles. I actually went out to buy a new bottle of Vixen just to see if it is worthy of stashing. So if I say “share” that will be two bottles worth of money I’ll have wasted.

We’re Gonna Rock, We’re Gonna Roll, We’re Gonna Bop, We’re Gonna BOWL…

Let’s bowl, let’s bowl, let’s rock-’n-roll.
Hey, come on, let’s get this show on the road.
Let’s bowl, let’s bowl, let’s rock-’n-roll.
‘Cause the stakes are high, and the winner takes all!
- “Score Tonight” from Grease 2

If you’ve seen the documentary My Date With Drew you know that the director/subject of the film believes that people can be divided into two categories; those who love Grease 2 and everyone else.  Drew Barrymore, the director Brian Herzlinger and I all fall into the Grease 2 loving category.  One of the most infectious songs in the cheese-tastic flick is “Score Tonight” which involves a night at a bowling alley.

This past fall I officially became a bowling addict when the boyfriend and I joined a league with some friends.  Every Thursday night you can find me making a fool of myself on the lanes and a few weeks ago I made the committment to get my own ball.

Of course, no ordinary bowling ball would do.  It had to express my colorful style.  When I saw this lime & lavender Brunswick Slingshot it was all over.  Purple and green?? Are you kidding??  It’s like they made it for me and me alone!

Now what kind of nail girl would I be if I didn’t don a manicure inspired by my new ball? Check it out!

The Black Polish Trend

I wouldn’t be a true polish fanatic if I didn’t pay homage to the biggest trend to hit the polish world since Uma Thurman donned Chanel Vamp in Pulp Fiction. Chanel’s introduction of Black Satin caused a frenzy like I have never seen. The insane eBay prices, the story about Sarah Michelle Gellar stealing one from a party, the waiting lists at Chanel counters for a re-release, it’s madness. Pure madness. And with the release of Chanel’s new black for spring, Noir Ceramic, the craze continues.

The truth is, black polish isn’t for everyone. It doesn’t suit all skin tones or tastes. It doesn’t make you an un-stylish buffoon if you don’t love black polish. Wear what you like or wear nothing at all, there is no right or wrong. Just keep your nails presentable.

I personally refused to give in to Chanel. I’m here to tell you that there are options for everyone. If you want to join the dark polish trend but don’t want to go for full on black or give in to eBay prices for Chanel, I’m here to help. From my personal collection, I present my “best of” vampy polishes. With the exception of the polishes marked (DC’d), all of these are available in drugstores, salons or through the online e-tailers I have listed in my links.
