Nail The Look – The Women of Star Trek Into Darkness
In spite of having a boyfriend who is a major Star Trek fan, he even owns Shatner’s CDs, I never got on board. That is, until JJ Abrams became involved with the franchise. I’m a fan of his work from back in the Felicity and Alias days so when he took over the helm, I paid attention. Even though the boyfriend feels the first film “wasn’t a Star Trek movie” (I loved it!), he gave his approval when we saw the second installment, Star Trek Into Darkness.
As with the first film, I couldn’t help but notice the nail polish on the two female leads, Zoe Saldana as Uhura and Alice Eve as Carol Marcus. Fortunately, I was able to get the scoop on their looks and the rest of the women of Star Trek Into Darkness straight from Assistant Make-up Department Head Deborah Patino Rutherford who worked alongside Make-up Department Head David Anderson. So if you plan to dress as your favorite character you can finish off your look with the proper polish.

ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – Sephora by OPI Let’s Plié
365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.
While everyone was buzzing about the Sephora by OPI Glee collection, the more low-key Urban Ballerina collection quietly came on the scene. Given the hype surrounding Black Swan, I’m amazed that the collection didn’t get more lip service. As a little girl I was always obsessed with dance and dance movies, watching films like Fame and Flashdance way before I was old enough to see them. I even took ballet lessons for a hot second before admitting that I lacked the natural talent and coordination required. Now even though I’m known for my love of bold nail color, I have moments where I want a more subdued feminine look so I took Sephora by OPI Let’s Plié for a spin on the dance floor. |
ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – Sephora by OPI 212-Sephora
365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.When Sephora by OPI first launched it got its share of flack from the nail community. One, it was given the nickname $OPI, with a dollar sign, due to the fact that it costs more than regular OPI nail polishes. Second, a lot of us questioned whether the line would consist of just old, recycled OPI shades, or if it would truly have its own unique offerings. Third, would this water down the OPI brand?
Well, even though it still costs more than regular OPIs, I think we can safely say that the other two concerns were unwarranted. The SOPI line hasn’t affected the popularity of OPI and it has had its fair share of original colors and collections. One of those happens to be Sephora by OPI 212-Sephora. Named for the telephone number to Sephora’s Times Square location, this color was launched to celebrate the store’s opening. |
Calling All Gleeks – The Sephora by OPI GLEE Collection is Coming!
It’s safe to say I’m a hardcore Gleek. The show had me hooked from the moment I heard a clip of Don’t Stop Believing. I started hearing rumors about a Glee inspired Sephora by OPI nail color collection at the end of November and ever since I’ve been sitting on the edge of my seat to find out more.
Gleek out with the new Sephora by OPI goes Gleek Chic collection, available February 2011, a limited-edition range of ten new nail colour shades and three Chic Prints nail design appliqués inspired by your favorite characters from FOX’s hit show, GLEE. With signature names, colors and styles developed in conjunction with Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products, the set list for the Sephora by OPI GLEE Collection has a little something for every Gleek, from the infamous slushie blue to a Gleek Out green- the new GLEE line will make you feel like part of the GLEE club.

Sephora by OPI Looks Like Rain, Dear & Midnight Mambo
This past weekend the boyfriend and I went to Pittsburgh to visit with friends. I also went to see Chelsea Handler’s Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang Tour Saturday night.
I am a religious Chelsea Lately watcher and I adore her on the show but her stand up was a REAL disappointment. As Chelsea would say, “It’s not great!” Her behavior was so manic you would think she was having an episode on stage. Like to the point that I was worried about her. And her act was so old that I remembered some parts from her 2007 Comedy Central Presents show. Time for some new material Chelsea. Anywho, I wanted a blingy manicure for the weekend and two of the Sephora by OPI polishes I purchased during the Friends & Family sale called out to me. A reader suggested that I try Looks Like Rain, Dear but Midnight Mambo looked really pretty as well so I decided to combine them into a multi-colored mani. |
