Fall 2011 Nail Polish Trend – Bold Beautiful Blues
Are we stuck in some kind of 2007 nail polish flashback? Did Chanel Blue Satin just launch? First we talked about grey nail polish, now we’re moving onto blue. Those of you who have been reading ALU since way back in its infancy will remember that blue and grey were big nail trends for Fall 2007 and as I approach my fifth year of blogging, it’s like it’s all coming full circle.
The past couple years there has been a greater focus on greyed slate blues and teal but this time around we’re looking at a more true blue range that varies from denim to sapphire to indigo. And as brands have continued to evolve their mixing techniques we are being treated to more unique finishes and sparkle combinations than we’ve seen in the past.

ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – Sparitual Inner Sanctum
365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.
Untried Day #120 – We had a visitor in our back yard and she inspired today’s manicure. The boyfriend spotted a fawn grazing around the tree in the back corner of our property and when he went out on the deck, he was amazed how unfazed she was by his presence. It’s not like deer are that uncommon or anything but we are in a pretty urban area not far from downtown. Our neighborhood doesn’t exactly provide lots of wooded places for deer to hide. The fawn must be pretty adjusted to city life though because she napped under our tree for the entire day and night and her mom took up residence in our neighbor’s yard. I wanted to go out to try and pet her but I kept reminding myself that I don’t live in a Disney cartoon where humans and wild animals are friends. I dedicate today’s manicure to my little deer friend using Sparitual Inner Sanctum, the best shade I could find to match her gorgeous coat. |

Why is it that holiday weeks throw everyone completely out of whack? It’s not like they don’t come back every single year. We as a people should be used to it by now but wow, oh wow, am I tired and continually forgetting what day it is. Thankfully I’m in a world where time doesn’t matter. No, not Vegas though I’ll be there at the end of the month. I’m actually back at Put-In-Bay for a night. One of my childhood besties is visiting so we escaped the CLE for a little girls getaway. To make up for lost time in the land of ALU’s red and pink nail polishes, I’m hitting you with back to back untireds from those color families. Today we travel to berry-ville with SpaRitual Primitive. |

I hope all my US readers are enjoying their Memorial Day weekend. I just want to give a quick shout-out to all the troops who serve every day to protect us. It is an amazing selfless act to serve your country and I thank you for that. Back to nail polish, a reader recently asked me to feature Sparitual in the Untrieds so I chose A World of Compassion from last fall’s Imagine collection. Check it out! |
Cosmoprof 2010 Day 2 Recap
Monday was utter craziness at Cosmoprof North America. Christine and I arrived bright and early and hit the ground running.
We met with the teams at CND, OPI, Orly, SpaRitual and Zoya and I think by the end of the day we were both visually overwhelmed. You can’t really grasp the scope of how large this show is unless you’re here. Outside of all the major nail, hair and skin care brands that are represented there are a tons of smaller and international brands to check out. Three of the big trends I’m noticing are keratin treatments, hair tinsel and gel polish. The amount of brands that have come out with those three products is exploding. Check out our finds from Day 2 after the jump! |
