51st Annual Grammy Awards Nail Watch
So I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t sad that Rihanna was a no show at last night’s Grammy Awards. I know there’s a whole scandal a-brewing and I certainly hope she’s OK but the red carpet just wasn’t the same without her. Let’s all hope it’s one big misunderstanding.
Being that I look to the Grammy’s as the one awards show where standout nails are acceptable, I must say that overall I was a wee disappointed though not where Adele is concerned. I was so happy to see her perform and WIN though I was just as delighted to see her go for it with her nails. Am I big fan of the talon look? No! But she didn’t go too long (Fantasia, I’m talking to you) and she kept the design simple; a reverse french with black tips. See who else stood out (both good and bad) after the jump! |

Cyndi Lauper and Karina Pasian (pictured below) both went the stark white route. Honestly, it’s the only part of Cyndi’s ensemble I can sign off on. Mod white tips are very fresh for spring.

Is it just me or does Audrina Patridge look NOTHING like she does on The Hills? I almost didn’t recognize her. I actually love her makeup, dress and nails (so so on the hair). She accented her teal gown with a deep taupe nail.
Leona Lewis was a bronzed goddess and her coral red tips added just the right punch of color.
I’m totally coveting LeAnn Rimes‘ dress. It’s not something I would normally dig but I’m transfixed by it. I love that she coordinated her tips & toes in a complementary blue hue.

Toccara Jones from America’s Next Top Model stopped by the Westwood One 51st Annual Grammy Awards remotes sporting nude nails. Very on trend Toccara!
Also at the Westwood One remotes, Khloe Kardashian was promoting the new season of Keeping Up with the Kardashians while wearing a shimmery midnight blue.
On the red carpet for The Black Eyed Peas 5th Annual Peapod Foundation Benefit Concert, Fergie showed off her silvery metallic tips.
Also in attendance, Solange rocked some hot pink nails. It’s actually surprising for me to see her without some kind of crazy nail art going on. She’s confessed her love for out there designs on her blog.
Last but certainly not least, MAC held a party Thursday night to celebrate the launch of Hello Kitty and singer Ciara stopped by wearing a very HK appropriate bright pink. My blogging buddies Jamie and Amber were in attendance to see the celebs up close.

Were there any looks that stood out to you? Who was your favorite? Or do you just not care about award shows like I do?
Red Carpet Reds
Beautiful, charming and hilarious, Isla Fisher was stunning with her dark red nails. I’m not the biggest fan of the dress but I just find her adorable.
Susan Sarandon mixes a hint of sexy with age appropriate understated glamour. Her classic red nails are the perfect accent.
Evan Rachel Wood transitioned her crimson tips from last week’s Critic’s Choice Awards to a more vibrant robust red.
Anne Hathaway has certainly been all about the red nails lately. She wore red to the Critics Choice Awards and Bride Wars premiere.
Selma Hayek‘s dark nails surprised me. She always struck me as someone who prefers a clean, nude look.
Miss Golden Globe, Rumer Willis, complimented her plum gown with a dark eggplant nail.
Have you read Mindy Kaling‘s blog, Things I’ve Bought That I Love? In one of her posts she discusses how every girl only needs 5 shades of polish. FIVE?? Is she mad? Her pick for vamping it up, what she calls “first date nails,” is from Chanel.
Heidi Klum, never one to shy away from trends or over the top looks, selected a black sparkler for her tips.
Celebrity manicurist, Tom Bachik, gave Beyonce rich brown tips to accentuate her champagne colored gown using Chanel Haute Chocolat.
Golden Globes Nail Watch – Amanda Seyfried
Now I haven’t seen all the films of 2008 but compared to the ones I did, Mamma Mia is definitely my favorite of the year. My BFF turned me into an ABBA fanatic back in my late teens when he would play songs from ABBA Gold while we hung out after work. And I rushed off to see the stage version of Mamma Mia when it came to the Cleveburg, dancing in the isles with the crowd at the end.
Needless to say, when I had the opportunity to see an advanced screening of the movie version ofMamma Mia last summer, I was giddy with excitement. Even in a room full of media folk there was laughter, clapping and cheering including full out applause at the end. Truly fantastic! The biggest surprise of the movie… the gorgeous and talented Amanda Seyfried. Who knew this girl that I’d only seen playing a ditzy blonde (Mean Girls), a dead BFF (Veronica Mars) and a mormon teen (Big Love) had such a voice? She’s pretty magical in the role, especially with Meryl Streep by her side.
Well, on the red carpet at last night’s Golden Globes she certainly glowed all on her own. Amanda was a vision with beautiful berry lips, heavily lined eyes and deep burgundy tips. Even though I’m not a matchy-matchy girl when it comes to nails, it works on her.
I recommend OPI We’ll Always Have Paris ($4.48 on 8ty8Beauty.com) or Misa Love Bite ($3.00 on Head2ToeBeauty.com) to get the look at home.
