Tracy Reese for Sally Hansen Fall 2008

Last February I gave you a peek at the Tracy Reese for Sally Hansen Salon Collection for Fall 2008 and a backstage look at the Tracy Reese show. Well now I can finally show the rest of the collection which will roll into stores in September.

Drawing inspiration from nature and weather, this collection is filled with soft dusty neutrals, dark earthy vamps, rich floral cremes with one FANTASTIC smokey blue thrown in for good measure. Overall, I’m pretty smitten with all the colors and more than pleased with how they apply and wear.

Moonstone is the perfect name for this pearly silver metallic. I found it to be slightly streaky but not so much that it’s unwearable.

Divinity is what the MUA nail board might call a BABB (Band-Aid but better) shade. A warm nude shimmer, I think cool toned girls would have problems pulling it off.

However, that’s where Quartz Chameleon steps in. This pinkish neutral shimmer will flatter most skin tones. And while I’m not the biggest fan of nudes/neutrals, if I were looking for one to wear, this is what I’d reach for. Very work friendly.

Torrid Bloom was the shade used for the Veiled Nail look on all the Tracy Reese models. It’s a glorious deep magenta creme. I can’t even begin to tell you how impressed I was with the application and pigmentation. I totally fell in love while putting it on.

Night Lily is a purple tinged deep berry red creme and it flows on the nail as fantabulously as Torrid Bloom. Like seriously, I normally dread applying cremes unless my nail beds are flawless because they pick up every flaw. But the two in this collection are like magic. Just perfect!

Cruel Heart is a blood red shimmer. Pretty but not a standout.

Alchemy is unique in that it’s a plum with subtle bronzey shimmer. The shimmer isn’t super apparent but it brings warmth to the overall shade.

Imagine melting a Hershey’s Special Dark and adding ribbons of shimmer and you have The Good Earth. This almost-black chocolate shade has more sparkle than Alchemy but isn’t glitzy. In brighter indoor lighting and sunlight, it’s a stunner.

I’ve shown you Stormy Blue before but I just can’t get enough of this steely smoked out blue. I even told you about my male friend loving it on his toes, making it a unisex shade.

Raven’s Wing is even more jet black in person but the micro-glitter makes it appear lighter to my camera. It’s actually an inky shade with floating silver and tarnished gold glitter that dries smooth to the touch.

Sally Hansen Salon Nail Lacquer is available at most drug stores and retails for $6 US.

My personal picks for “must haves” from the collection are Quartz Chameleon, Torrid Bloom, Alchemy, Stormy Blue and The Good Earth. Which ones will make your shopping list?

He’s the man, the man with the midas touch.
A spider’s touch.
Such a cold finger.
Beckons you to enter his web of sin
But don’t go in.

Golden words he will pour in your ear,
But his lies can’t disguise what you fear,
For a golden girl knows when he’s kissed her,
It’s the kiss of death from

Mister Goldfinger.
Pretty girl beware of this heart of gold
This heart is cold.

Goldfinger Lyrics: Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley

Chanel Gold Fiction, chanel, gold fiction, gold, nail polish, nail lacquer, nail color, nail colour, fall 2008For Fall 2008 CHANEL Makeup’s Global Creative Director, Peter Philips, took his inspiration from Coco Chanel’s apartment on Rue Cambon. A collection that includes rich berries and luxurious golds, the most buzzed about product is the Facettes D’or Nail Colour in Gold Fiction. Though it’s not the color itself that is causing jaws to flap, it’s the $30 price tag.

Chanel attributes the higher cost to the ingredients and from what I can tell Silica and Tin Oxide are the only ingredients that aren’t found in other Chanel nail polishes I own. While I am unsure about the cost of silica, I do know that tin oxide is rather expensive and is likely the cause of the price increase.

Gold Fiction is pure molten 24 karat bars for your nails. It’s one of the truest gold shades I’ve seen, not dirty or too yellow. The application is flawless and in spite of its metallic appearance, brush strokes are minimal if at all visible. The opaque bottle will protect light from damaging the pigments but prevent you from knowing how much is left. Gold Fiction may be the color everyone is dying to see but Kaleidoscope gets my vote for best of the collection. I LOVE this shade more than my luggage. The name is so apropos for this chameleon-eque sparkler. Described as a green-gold this shade ranges from pewter to antique gold depending on the light but the shimmer is what really makes this one unique. It’s as if a layer of superfine pixie dust covers each nail, similar to the glitz of Flamingo but even more dazzling. Two coats to perfection and no brush marks. Honestly, I can’t rave enough about this one and I’m so not into golds.

I wish I could give Fantastic the same praise but there just isn’t anything standout about this deep wine shade. It’s a pretty polish with subtle tonal shimmer that flows smoothly on the nail. And with the gold and berry trend seeming apparent for Fall, I’m sure this will fit right in.
Chanel Fall 2008 Fantastic, chanel, chanel fantastic, fantastic, fall 2008, nail color, nail colour, nail polish, nail lacquer OK so I know the comments are coming. The raves for the colors but complaints about price and while I would love to debate this, I’m standing back and letting all of you battle it out. Let’s face it, with the press Gold Fiction is getting, the Chanel label, limited edition status and stunning color, this baby will sell out. So you can either jump on the bandwagon or wave as it goes by (your wallet intact).

The Fall 2008 Makeup Collection including Gold Fiction ($30), Kaleidoscope ($20) & Fantastic ($20) will be on counter and available at Chanel.com in July.

So I’ll leave you with a little Shirley Bassey. Even though there are a few of her Goldfinger performances floating around, I love her appearance on The Muppet Show best. Everything is better with Muppets.

A Visit to Dashing Diva

A trip to New York isn’t complete without a stop at Dashing Diva. It’s the perfect destination for a little pampering and a girly good time. So when I was in the city for Fashion Week back in February, I had to pencil in a manicure with some of my beauty blogging pals.

This time we visited the Upper West Side location and I had a chance to replace my broke down four day old mani with a fab cobalt blue; Stellar Ella (see left). Pictured with me is Julia from All About the Pretty and Erika from Makeup Bag. We were joined by our fearless Beauty Blog Network leader Elke and the fabulous and charming Sam from Dark PR who made the excursion possible.

Of course in the sea of conservative french manicures and pale pinks my tips stood out but I’m sure they would have been right at home with the funkier clientele at the downtown locale. But you know me, I’ll flash my bold nail personality anywhere. And the staff couldn’t have been more welcoming and professional. As expected the service was top notch and extremely hygienic which just makes my desire for a Cleveland Dashing Diva even stronger. Are you listening TPTB?

I took my time perusing the massive polish display and fell in love with a few shades that I just had to make my own. They’re not necessarily Spring season appropriate but they’re must haves for my collection.

Black Diamonds – I first wore this shade back in November and I regretted not bringing a bottle home. And while the gunmetal gray trend may not be as strong this coming fall, I still think this color is relevant. It’s got a bluish, slightly lavender base that softens the dark gray pigment. Super shiny and a relatively brush stroke-less metallic, Black Diamonds is mesmerizing.

Merlot Luscious Molly caught my attention with its subtle gold shimmer that weaves throughout this deep wine inspired shade. It’s even richer in person and in warm, incandescent lighting takes on a pretty rust colored cast.

Northern Lights is a no brainer “me” hue. A blue based green with gold shimmer that is peppered with bronze, blue and green glitter, this polish is truly unique. Depending on the lighting it can lean towards either blue or green. And while it may not appeal to the mainstream, I’m in love. Though if it were up to me, this color would be called Under The Sea. It’s the color you’d see while scuba diving, looking up at the sun sparkling on the surface.
Dashing Diva polishes retail for $7.99 and can be purchased online or in the salon. For more information go to their website, http://www.dashingdiva.com/.

OPI Holiday in Hollywood: Dazzling Darks & Neutrals

When I think of glitz and glam, my mind immediately drifts to Hollywood, award shows and the red carpet. For Holiday 2007 OPI takes us there with the Holiday in Hollywood Collection. It includes two distinct sets of six polishes: Dazzling Darks & Neutrals and Glamour Reds.

The Dazzling Darks & Neutrals are up first. The Glamour Reds are soon to follow.

(l-r) Stars In My Eyes, Hollywood Blonde, I’d Like To Thank

(l-r) My Big Break, Have You Seen My Limo?, Who Are You Wearing?

Stars in My Eyes is a semi-sheer sparkly silver. What you see below is two thin coats. I’m sure a third coat would make it completely opaque. As I was applying Stars in My Eyes and the majority of the sparklers in this collection I noticed a great multi-colored shimmer in the lacquer but it doesn’t appear on the nail. Instead this shade has a slightly pinkish cast and amazing depth. It dries semi-matte so if you really want to put on the glitz, add a super shiny top coat.Hollywood Blonde is my surprise of the collection. I totally didn’t expect to like, let alone love, this shade. From the few pics I’d seen of it online, it looked like a blah nude. Wow was I wrong. A glistening nudish pink semi-sheer, this is my kind pale. The gold shimmer gives it depth and a fairy dust quality. I would totally rock this on my tips or toes for a holiday party. I love when a polish blows my expectations out of the water.I’d Like To Thank… is described by OPI as a “copper shimmer.” I don’t know what Suzi has been smoking but I see no copper here. I’d Like To Thank is a duo-chrome; a shade that changes from one shade to another depending on the lighting. This one changes from a mid-tone peachy pink a deep golden rose thanks to the magical gold metallic shimmer. This is a shade I’d say is more suited to warm skin tones. The only real downside of this color is that the metallic quality made my brush strokes more apparent. My Big Break has the same consistency and duo chrome effect as I’d Like To Thank. And the same visible brush stroke issue but it’s not nearly as visible. There is a small amount of green shimmer in the formula that shows up on the nail at certain angles. Overall it’s a lovely berry rose shade that leans towards a deep lilac depending on the light.Have You Seen My Limo? gets the prize for most unique. Yet another duo-chrome, the deep grape base has silver and green shimmer that allows the shade to transform from reddish purple to a dark silvery plum. I really hope OPI adds this to their permanent Classic Collection.Who Are You Wearing? is a tough color to accurately capture. I must have shot 40+ images of it and I still had to add swatch shots from other images to give you an idea of how truly cool this polish is. When I first saw online swatches of it I thought it was just another blue, like OPI Ink or Russian Navy but, oh no it’s so much more! The final duo-chrome in this collection, Who Are You Wearing? has a red shimmer that only appears in warm indoor lighting. Otherwise it’s a battle between the blue shimmer and the purple base as to which color you’ll see. The purple being the hardest to capture digitally. This is a shade you MUST see for yourself. The Holiday In Hollywood collection is available now at professional salons, including Ulta, Trade Secret, Regis, Pure Beauty, JCPenney, Dillardรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs, Beauty First, and Beauty Brands.

Now it’s time for you to weigh in. Which shades have you drooling? Which ones have you bought? What’s on your wish list? What didn’t work for you? Any lemmings killed?

Essie Winter 2007 Preview

OK so I know I teased you with a lot of new goodies coming down the track but things have been absolutely insane. Does anyone want to join me in my fight to take down Time Warner Cable. They are evil, evil people and have made my life hell for the past few weeks. Things are still not resolved but I will battle on.

I did have time to snag some bottle pics of the new Essie collection for Winter 2007/2008. Styled to go with the glam styles and metallic accents seen on the runways for fall, this collection is filled with glitzy reds, gunmetal and pewter and, of course, a signature nude cream.

from l-to-r:
nude attitude – antique nude cream
steel-ing the scene – medium brushed pewter
over the top – dark metallic gray

who’s she red – four-alarm creamy crimson
wrapped in rubies – rich gold-dusted burgundy
showstopper – shimmery deep berry

I’ve only had a chance to swatch a few and so far Over The Top is a big winner as is Showstopper. I promise to have swatch pics up soon.
