ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – Funky Fingers Elephunk
365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.
I don’t know when the Five Below stores first opened but it’s only been within the past year that I’ve noticed them popping up all over Northeast Ohio. Geared towards tweens and teens, the $5 and under retailer is the new dollar store. While the dollar stores, like Dollar Tree, have been a great source for hard-to-find nail treasures, it seems that Five Below carries brand new product in addition to closeouts. One brand they carry is Funky Fingers, which is produced by Forsythe Cosmetics, a private labeler and owner of Color Club and Art Club. I first spotted Funky Fingers a few years back at a hair store in Chicago on my way back from a MUA Nail Board meetup and I picked up a couple of greens but still haven’t worn them. ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – RGB Cosmetics Dove
Welcome to the launch of 365 of Untrieds my year long nail polish challenge. I’ve been inspired by one of my favorite bloggers, Melissa from The Daily Nail to take on the task of a daily blog project. 365 of Untrieds is just as the name implies, a series about all the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.
Whether it’s something I’ve been meaning to wear but haven’t made time for, a polish I bought on a whim and forgot about or a color from a collection that I didn’t have the time to review, this will be my way of getting through my overwhelming stack of untested polishes to help me find new loves and weed out unnecessary bulk. I’m kicking off the challenge with a nail polish from RGB Cosmetics that has been sitting on my desk for way too long. It’s a shade I was so excited to try when it arrived in the mail but I kept pushing off in favor of other colors. So to stop it from mocking me on a daily basis, I give you RGB Dove. |
OPI Texas Collection for Spring/Summer 2011 – Creme & Shimmer Swatches, Review & Comparisons

This Spring, OPI is venturing down south to the Lone Star state of Texas. In the past OPI has focused on areas within the US (Painted Desert, New England) or specific cities (New York City, Chicago) but this is the first time I can remember where and entire state has been the inspiration for a collection. The OPI Texas Collection for Spring/Summer 2011 is standard in that it consists of twelve polishes but for the first time there is a definitive dividing line between each set of six shades. OPI is introducing their take on the beloved jelly texture with six “sorbet” style polishes; semi-sheer colors with a lucite look. Before we tackle the sorbet lacquers let’s examine the creme & shimmer polishes. |
China Glaze Anchors Away Spring 2011 Collection – Sand & Sea Swatches & Review
I can’t begin to tell you how apropos it is that China Glaze created the nautical themed Anchors Away collection for Spring 2011. You see I grew up sailing. As a child I spent every weekend of my summers on my parents’ sailboat cruising the shores of Lake Erie. It was such a huge part of my life that even though I’m not exactly a fan of sailing (it can be boring), being on the water is an essential piece of who I am.
It’s always been part of my life plan to have a boat of my own to enjoy everything Lake Erie has to offer. The Lake Erie islands, the Sandusky Bay area, it’s all so beautiful and fun. This spring my dream of summering on a boat just may come true. The boyfriend and I are signing up for a safe boating course and starting to shop for our own floating home away from home which has me on an all things nautical high. I’ve been shopping for new deck shoes, conjuring up boat names, contemplating the boat themed manicures I’ll wear, etc. And after seeing a mani/pedi combo using the navy and orange cremes from this collection, I already know what is going on my nails first. But before we get into the bold Knotty Nauticals let’s take a look at the softer side of the Anchors Away collection, the Sand & Sea six piece set. |
ALU NYFW NOTD Challenge – Day 3
The days are getting longer people and I’m in serious need of sleep but I’m powering through New York Fashion Week like a champ. Even though my feet want to go on strike, the humidity is having its way with my hair and I can’t seem to remember what day it is, I’m having an absolute blast. I figure I can sleep when I get home so I may as well make the most of my time here and I’ve been doing just that.
Saturday was Day 3 of my NYFW experience and I was feeling the need to keep my green streak going. After rocking RBL Anne and Chanel Khaki Vert it was time for something dark and creamy. Enter Maybelline Grand In Green. But what fun is wearing just one color when you’re at Fashion Week? I pulled in GiG’s collection sibling, Gray-T Glamour for a funky but easy to replicate manicure.
