ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – Color-Block Nails with Orly Ancient Jade

orly-ancient-jade-nail-polish-365-untrieds 365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.

Color-blocking was all over the Spring 2011 runways but being that my own personal style doesn’t really mesh with color-blocking, I translated the trend to nails. As much as I love how bright colors look on others, I tend to stick to neutrals when it comes to my own wardrobe. My nails are my color statement.

Inspired by a dress I saw while online window shopping on Nordstrom.com, I incorporated Orly Ancient Jade from the Precious Spring 2011 Collection to create a color-block manicure.

ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – Inglot Pastels 969 & 970 for Easter

Happy Easter!  Happy Sunday to those who don’t celebrate.  I hope you all had a lovely weekend.  In spite of the gloomy weather we had a yummy Easter brunch with my parents which left me in a food coma for the rest of the day.  Though in spite of the day’s festivities I was up bright and early to make sure my digits donned their Easter finest.

After I posted my less-than-impressed review of one of Inglot’s O2M nail polishes, a reader suggested I give the pastels from their regular line a try.  I quickly placed an order and they ended up being the perfect ingredients for my Easter themed manicure. Take a look!

nubar-verde-nail-polish-bottle-365-untrieds 365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.I was talking to a blogger friend of mine the other day about how last Fall I was really over foil finish polishes.  After OPI, Orly and Zoya had put out some great foils earlier in the year, I was just kind of tired of them by the time the Zoya Wicked and Nubar Venetian Glass collections came out.  I was all about the glitter party at that point and foils felt blasé. It didn’t help that the collections also included a lot of reds, which as you all know, isn’t my thing.

So now that I’m revisiting colors in my untried bin, I’m finding myself loving foils again.  There’s nothing quite like the finish those flakie metallic particles can create.  Even in a dark room, the polish continues to play with the light.  Today Nubar Verde caught my eye.

gosh golden dragon nail polish bottle 365 untried 365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.

My friend Steph is married to a Canadian so they travel across the border quite often visiting family and since she is a fellow polish fanatic she asked me a while back if there are any brands she should look for.  I immediately said GOSH.  GOSH is a drugstore brand out of Denmark that I had only read about but never seen in person.

At the time, probably a year ago, I had no clue GOSH shipped to the US and with no plans to visit Canada I asked Steph to pick me up a bottle of something “fun.”  Knowing my penchant for green polishes she brought back this beauty, Golden Dragon.

OPI Texas Collection for Spring/Summer 2011 – Creme & Shimmer Swatches, Review & Comparisons

opi texas collection for spring 2011 The stars at night are big and bright
Deep in the heart of Texas

~Deep in the Heart of Texas lyrics by June Hershey

Tell me you can hear those lyrics and NOT clap your hands. Go ahead, tell me! This Spring, OPI is venturing down south to the Lone Star state of Texas. In the past OPI has focused on areas within the US (Painted Desert, New England) or specific cities (New York City, Chicago) but this is the first time I can remember where and entire state has been the inspiration for a collection.

The OPI Texas Collection for Spring/Summer 2011 is standard in that it consists of twelve polishes but for the first time there is a definitive dividing line between each set of six shades.  OPI is introducing their take on the beloved jelly texture with six “sorbet” style polishes; semi-sheer colors with a lucite look.  Before we tackle the sorbet lacquers let’s examine the creme & shimmer polishes.
