Chanel Jade & Paradoxal Dupe Smackdown
With every new Chanel nail polish launch the inevitable question is, are there any affordable alternatives? More often than not the answer is no. Chanel seems to find a way to add a little something special to their nail colors that make dead-on dupes an impossibility. Of course there are plenty of nail polishes that come close but Chanel twins are usually hard to come by.
After the Chanel Jade craze last fall a number of brands came out with their own less expensive version of the pale green shimmer, most notably Charlotte Russe Jade and Claire’s Dream Catcher. And now Milani has entered the ring with their interpretation, Dress Maker. Back when I reviewed Chanel Paradoxal I was hard pressed to find any decent comparisons and then a reader email led me to Models Own Purple Grey. Read on to see how these budget conscious versions stand up to two of Chanel’s most buzzed about nail creations. Let the smackdown begin! |
MAC Nail Trend F/W 2010 Swatches & Review
Jin Soon does it again! Following up her slam dunk sell-out collaboration with MAC last fall, they have teamed up again on Nail Trend F/W 10.
If you aren’t familiar with the genius that is Jin Soon check out The Nail Files interview I posted last year. She’s major in the editorial world and really on her game with color as evidenced by the nail polishes she created with MAC. Mistress of the art of the sophisticated nail, Jin Soon was inspired this season by the sensual pleasures of the Forbidden City for Nail Trend F/W ’10 – colours taken from the sculptures, tiles, architecture, fabrics, and decorative papers of Imperial China. Jin synthesized this vision to arrive at a collection in exotic and ravishing combinations of orange, blue, taupe, green, purple and, of course, lacquer red. |
Putting Nfu Oh to the Test – A NOTD with 568 & 56
What a weekend! I think I’m still recovering from a wine induced coma. The Vintage Ohio wine festival took place over the weekend and The BF and I hopped in a van with the neighbors to take part in an all day sampling of Ohio wines.
We’ve been going to this festival for the past 11 years and even though we’re there for the wine I still come home every year with a bag of kettle corn the size of a small child. Popcorn is my one true food vice and kettle corn is my Achilles heel. Anyway, I thought since I would be outside in the sun all day on Saturday, it was an excellent excuse for Nfu Oh Flakies!! I started a wear test using #568 (pictured left) & #56 (pictured right) last Monday but I anticipated having to take it off by Saturday. To my surprise it still looked so fantastic I only had to paint my swatching hand to match. Check it! |
Orly Cosmic FX Fall 2010 Collection Swatches & Review
2010 is turning out to be the year of texture. Satin, glitter, sequins, crystals, etc. have all been making a splash in the nail world. Orly has certainly stepped up their game with the Cosmic FX collection.
Combining natural rock minerals, crystals, and glass they have taken duo-chrome polishes to a new level. We’re talking the multi-dimensional love child of foil and duo-chrome. Each polish flashes multiple colors depending on the angle and how the light hits it. These are certainly not shades for the color shy. |
Essie Summer 2010 Swatches & Review
What’s that? It’s still summer. You’d never know that based on the number of fall collections that we’re being inundated with. Is it just me or do the fall colors seem to be coming out earlier? Maybe it’s because I’m really enjoying my summer and while I’m all about some of the Fall collections, I’m not ready for it to start just yet. The longer I can keep the Cleveland winter at bay, the better.
It seems like forever and a day since I previewed the Essie Summer 2010 collection. Oh that’s right, it has been forever and a day. Based on the pastels and florals spotted on the Spring/Summer runways, Essie has mixed soft hues with punchy brights. |
