American Apparel Nail Lacquer Swatches & Review
Say what you will about American Apparel clothes or ad campaigns but where nail polish is involved they hit a home run. Last winter the brand introduced their collection of Nail Lacquers and they certainly didn’t play it safe. Any brand that kicks off with multiple blues and greens automatically scores points in my book.
As I reported, there was a recall due to a bottle issue but to AA’s credit they rectified the situation in a timely manner. Prior to that I was sent a few polishes by the brand for review but I was only into one of the colors. I’ve been meaning to hop over to my local American Apparel store to pick up the more “me” shades but I really hate the parking sitch in that area so I couldn’t drag myself over there just for polish until recently. I know that makes me a bad polish fanatic and believe me, I’m totally kicking myself for waiting so long. See why after the jump! |
My First (and LAST) Water Marble Manicure
I should really call this manicure “An Afternoon of Frustration” because that’s how trying to create a water marble manicure left me feeling; FRUSTRATED! Those of you who have mastered the technique, I bow down to you. I honestly have no desire to try this ever again but since I made the effort, I thought I’d share my experience with you.
A few years back when China Glaze introduced the OMG! holographic collection, they posted a tutorial for their “Color Swirl” manicure and I was intrigued but intimidated by the process. Since then a whole mess of YouTubers have made countless water marble tutorials including lots of great tips and tricks to make the technique easier. I found myself watching a few this morning and got inspired. Find out more about the water marble technique and my adventure trying to recreate the look after the jump! |
Go Green Week – Sinful Mint Apple
It’s Go Green Week on ALU! In celebration of Earth Day on Thursday, April 22nd I’m reviewing some of the great green polishes from this season that I haven’t yet shared. Included with the reviews are tips on how you can “green” your manicure routine.
I never seem to have luck when it comes to finding the LE colors from Sinful. I don’t know if it’s because my local drugstores don’t typically order them or whether they sell out in a flash. Either way, when my friend who lives WAY out east from me said that she spotted a whole mess of new Sinful greens for spring I pretty much figured I’d never see them. So you can imagine my excitement a couple months ago when the clerk at my Walgreens told me they had some green Sinfuls behind the counter that they hadn’t put out yet. Mint Apple was among those gorgeous green gems and in the sea of mint green polishes we’ve been seeing, this cheese stands alone. Check it out! |
Go Green Week – Sally Hansen Grass Slipper
It’s Go Green Week on ALU! In celebration of Earth Day on Thursday, April 22nd I’m reviewing some of the great green polishes from this season that I haven’t yet shared. Included with the reviews are tips on how you can “green” your manicure routine.
Last winter I was in Michigan visiting friends when I made pit stop at Meijer’s to check out the Massini brand of nail polishes that I’ve heard so much about. The word on the interwebs is that Massini is made by Color Club and some of the polishes are dupes for the holographic CC’s. Of course, I got completely sidetracked when I spotted a bright green polish in the Sally Hansen rack. I saw the Spring Tracy Reese shades backstage at Fashion Week last fall but hadn’t seen the core colors yet. Grass Slipper from the Complete Salon Manicure line jumped into my cart and it’s a fantastic color. Check it out after the jump! |
