Go Green Week – Sephora by OPI Leaf Him at the Altar

sephora by opi leaf him at the altar sopi bottle Welcome to Go Green Week on ALU! With Earth Day coming up on Thursday, April 22nd I’m celebrating with some of the great green polishes from this season that I haven’t yet reviewed. Included with the reviews are tips on how you can “green” your manicure routine.

I’m kicking off Go Green Week with Leaf Him at the Altar from the Sephora by OPI spring collection Modern Flowers.  The collection itself didn’t really draw me in with the exception of the sheer purple & holographic glitter, It’s Bouquet with Me, and this standout green stunner.  Check it out after the jump!

OPI Shrek Forever After Collection Swatches, Review and Comparisons

opi shrek forever after collection swatches opi brights 2010 You might have seen a housefly, maybe even a superfly, but I bet you ain’t never seen a donkey fly.

Fanatics, can you please join me in a standing ovation for OPI and Suzi Weiss-Fischmann for creating a collection with NO REDS OR PINKS!! It took a big, smelly ogre to make this magical moment happen but I’m not complaining.  The Shrek Forever After Collection is OPIs addition to their ongoing Summer Brights series and I’m totally into it.

Surely, OPI could have found a reason to include a red or pink in this collection but I applaud them for not playing it safe.  A swampy, ogre green isn’t exactly conservative and I love that.  In fact, looking at the colors it’s like they were designed to be mani/pedi combinations.  The lilac & purple, sky & cyan blue and yellow & green.  They’re just meant to be together.

Zoya Ivanka Wear Test

zoya ivanka swatch zoya sparkle summer 2010 The vast majority of you raved when I posted the Zoya Sparkle collection (shipping April 1st) but a small minority of you expressed concern about chipping and quality of wear with Zoya’s formula.  This is not the first time I’ve heard this.  In fact my salon told me they stopped using Zoya because of this issue.

Personally, I’ve never had anything but fantastic wear from Zoya polish using either their Color Lock System or an outside brand of base & top coat.  A long time ago I showed you a wear test using the Zoya system but I decided it was time for an update using non-Art of Beauty products.

See the results and discover what ingredient could be at the root of your problems, after the jump!

The ALU Archives – Essie Dominica Green

alu-archives The ALU Archives focuses on older, beloved shades from the All Lacquered Up stash.

As much as I try to focus on readily available colors for the Archives I couldn’t help myself this week.  I finally got my hands on one of my dream dc’d shades and just had to share it with you.  I mean if anyone will understand the excitement over finding a bottle of Essie Dominica Green on your doorstep, it’s all of you.

Back in the early days of the MUA Nail Board, when I still had time to frequent it, there were only a few of us “green queens” hunting down old HTF shades and they seemed easier to find.  Now it’s like the whole polish loving world has joined in, making these rare polishes even harder to find.  I had pretty much given up hope of ever finding Dominica Green on my own (I REFUSE to pay big money on eBay) when an extremely generous gift made its way to me.

See this treasure after the jump!

Zoya Sparkle Collection Swatches & Review

zoya-sparkle-collection-summer-2010 The Zoya Sparkle collection has completely wowed me.  I predicted when I saw the promo images that I would find some must-haves in the bunch but seriously they’re all winners.  Even the reds and pinks which is so unlike me.

With this first of two Summer 2010 collections, Zoya has combined the twinkling beauty of the China Glaze glass flecked formula with the foil-like metallic glitter as seen in the Orly Foil FX collection.  Together they make for one killer combo of bling and glitz that will razzle dazzle you a la Chicago.  I want to break out the jazz hands and fan kicks just thinking about it.

Check out the girls, Ivanka, Charla, Mimi, Alegra, Nidhi and Gilda, after the jump!
