The ALU Archives – Models Own Slate Green

alu-archives The ALU Archives focuses on older, beloved shades from the All Lacquered Up stash. It’s time for another installment of the ALU Archives.  I’ve been reorganizing my stash, what a labor intensive project, and I came across a polish I’ve been meaning to share with you.  I’ve been on a greyed blue & green kick ever since I got my hands on the spring RBLs and there’s a blue-green stunner from Models Own that I just adore.

Check out Slate Green from Models Own after the jump!

Happy Green Nail Polish Lover’s, er, St. Patrick’s Day!!

l-r: Sally Hansen Mint Sprint, China Glaze Four Leaf Clover, Nicole Make Mine Lime, Nubar Meadow Sparkle, SOPI Leaf Him At The Altar, Sparitual Yes I Can, OPI Jade Is The New Black, Orly Wandering Vine

To those of you who go all out to celebrate St. Paddy’s, I hope you’re having a festive and safe time.  I’ve personally never made it to a parade or “kegs & eggs” though one year I was in the Finger Lakes during the holiday and that was fun.  One of the wineries I visited hosted a contest where you sampled their wines and then tasted one dyed green.  If you could guess which wine was the green one, you got a discount on your purchase.  That’s pretty much the extent of my St. Paddy’s Day participation outside of my nails.

You know it’s funny, I wear green polish a LOT (big surprise!) and most of the time no one says anything, yet last weekend I was asked at least three times if I was “getting ready for St. Paddy’s Day” because I had on Nicole Make Mine Lime (pictured above).  I’ve had the same thing happen when I was wearing black polish around Halloween. Odd.

Anywho, with so many amazing greens out for spring it was hard for me to choose a color for today.  Want to see what I picked?  Find out after the jump and see some of my fave greens of the season!

China Glaze Poolside Collection Swatches & Review

china-glaze-poolside-swatches-summer-2010 I have a love/hate relationship with brights and neons. I LOVE wearing them in the summer but I HATE photographing them. They are just so hard to capture. Neons just never translate on screen so it’s really hard for me to show you what you’re getting.

Regardless, I took the new China Glaze Poolside collection for a spin. Poolside consists of six bold, in-your-face neons that are bound to attract attention.  From the shimmery blue Towel Boy Toy to the hi-lighter yellow of Yellow Polka Dot Bikini, if you want to make a bold color nail statement, this collection has it.  Check out my swatches after the jump!

Color Club Rebel Debutante Swatches & Review

Color-Clube-Rebel-Debutante-Display One of Color Club’s three, yes I said three, new collections is Rebel Debutante.  The collection introduces nine new creme polishes that for the most part are very chic and subdued but it’s the stand out blue and green that caught my eye. What an unexpected twist to add such bright pops of color to the palette.  I suppose they are the rebels in the group.  Though what I like about this collection as a whole is that even though the majority of the shades are neutrals, they are what I’d call “new neutrals.”  They have an updated feel to them.  See what I mean after the jump!

Get The Look – Nina Dobrev in Seventeen Magazine

Nina-Dobrev-Seventeen-Magazine-April-2010 A few days ago Fanatic Ally contacted me asking about Nina Dobrev’s nails in the April edition of Seventeen Magazine.  Since I’m not a subscriber (I’m a little beyond Seventeen’s demo) I haven’t seen the issue but I was able to find some pics online.  Needless to say, I pleasantly surprised to see a cover girl sporting GREEN nails!

The reason for Ally’s email is that in the magazine, you can clearly see that Nina’s nails were covered with chunky, random glitter yet the magazine recommended OPI Bling Dynasty to get the look.  Any of you who own Bling Dynasty know that it’s a shimmering, opaque micro-glitter.  So how was Nina’s look achieved?

Fortunately my pal Celebrity Manicurist Elle was the woman responsible for Nina’s nail look so I gave her a ring to get the scoop.  Find out what she used after the jump!
