Get Your Green On for St. Paddy’s Day

One day and counting kids, do you have your polish picked out for tomorrow? If you’re still scrambling for ideas, I’ve got more than a few for you.

Last year, I showed you some of my fave accessible greens including RBL Recycle and Sinful Colors San Francisco and since then, even more fab shades have come on the market. Take a peek at my St Patrick’s Day recommendations, after the jump!

Aside from the shades I rec’d last year, there are four more previously reviewed polishes that are a perfect St. Paddy’s Day fit. Of course I had to include my fave emerald shimmer, Barielle Date Night, one of the few mass market perm greens Sally Hansen Emerald City, springy kelly green OPI Green-wich Village and my dream green glitter China Glaze Emerald Sparkle.

Also, there are some great hues that I haven’t posted yet but definitely deserve some Irish love. Sally Hansen released a new line, Insta-Dri, that includes a rich forest called Jumpin’ Jade. China Glaze Cherish is a soft, pastel-ish option for those of you that shy from full-on green. On the opposite end of that spectrum we have Misa Let’s Go Green for a shock of lime. Finally, Rimmel’s 60 Seconds formula has adopted the now defunct Underground Play Fast shade Camouflage a gold tinged verdant.
All shades are available in your local drugstores or online at Barielle.com, Head2ToeBeauty.com, 8ty8Beauty.com and TransDesign.com.

Check back tomorrow to see what I picked for my St Paddy’s NOTD. Hint: You haven’t seen it yet!

The ALU Archives – Orly Green Apple

The ALU Archives focuses on older, beloved shades from the All Lacquered Up stash.

To celebrate the coming of Daylight Savings Time (finally!) and the ability to leave work in daylight, I decided to continue my green for March theme with a lighter, brighter shade. This week I pulled out Orly Green Apple from my stash.

Green Apple is a vivid lime creme. The bottle color is very deceptive in that the polish dries darker on the nail. It has an almost pastel quality that goes away once applied. And holy pigmentation batman!! I barely needed two coats, it just flows on the nail so perfectly. If you’re looking for a fun spring green, this one is definitely a winner.

I picked up my bottle of Orly Green Apple from Head2ToeBeauty.com ($3.50) but you can also find it on 8ty8beauty.com ($3.18) or TransDesign.com ($3.19)

GREEN Polish Hits The Chanel Runway

chanel, runway, paris, ready-to-wear, aw 09, green nail polishSHUT IT DOWN!!! Am I seeing things or did the Chanel models rock a minty green polish on the Paris A/W 09 RTW Runway? I swear I about jumped out of my chair when I caught a glimpse of wintergreen nail.

chanel, runway, paris, ready-to-wear, aw 09, green nail polishPlease, please, please tell me this shade will make its way to Chanel counters. If I get any confirmation on this you’ll be the first to know. Peter Philips, I already heart you for all the amazing shades you’ve put out this past year… make my day by putting out a green! My sad old bottle of Vert Sacrilege wants a lighter, brighter sister to hang with in my green drawer.

What do you think kids? I’ll wear a color no matter the season but how do you feel about a springy green for Fall? Yay or nay?

The ALU Archives – NYX Jungle

all lacquered up, archives, alu archivesThe ALU Archives focuses on older, beloved shades from the All Lacquered Up stash.

The only reason I love March is because it contains the “greenest” holiday of year, St. Patrick’s Day. Now I’m not even 1% Irish but I still embrace the day because it gives me a reason to green out. So for the rest of the month, all the ALU Archives posts will be green!

To kick things off, I turn to one of the most unique greens I own, NYX Jungle. Jungle isn’t full on emerald, it falls somewhere between jade and teal. It’s got this deep, murky, sea water look that transforms depending on the light and angle. What you see below is two coats but with three the shade leans even more towards green.

If you haven’t used NYX polishes before, you really are missing out on a great discount brand. The flat NYX brush is thinner and easier to use than some other brands that have converted to flat (cough, OPI, cough) and the price is fantastic ($4.00/ea).

I order NYX direct from NYXCosmetics.com. The shipping is fast and reasonable. 12 bottles via USPS is around $8. I’ve seen NYX polishes at outlet mall fragrance shops but other than that, finding them in stores is kind of hit or miss. You can also order online from MyDivasCloset.com and CherryCulture.com.

What do you think kids? Any other NYX fans? What are your fave shades? Who else is loving Jungle?

ALU at NYFW – Backstage at Vena Cava

vena cava, nyfw, fashion weekUnlike traditional runway shows, presentations give you the opportunity to examine the clothes, makeup, hair and nails up close. We were fortunate to be able to attend the Vena Cava presentation at NYFW after our visit backstage. As much as I love getting the opportunity to check out the pre-show action and learn about the products and techniques used to create the models’ looks, it’s amazing getting to see the finished creations in person.

Like my FW blogging partner in crime, Jamie, I loved everything about the Vena Cava show. The sleek sided poufed-up hair, the downtown edgy vibe of the clothes, the bold pop of eye color and most importantly the GREEN nails.

Get all the deets after the jump!

vena cava, nyfw, fashion weekThe fabulous green tips are the creation of Nonie Creme, Creative Director of butter London. To complement the hunter green fabric in the collection, this new butter London polish, dubbed British Racing Green, will be released this fall.

Nonie applied a custom solution over the polish to mattify the color, giving it a murky look. It’s not a completely flat finish, it just reduces the sparkle. I wonder if this “solution” will eventually appear as a matte/satin top coat in the butter London line.

Hair guru Ted Gibson gave the girls what he calls a “rockabilly chic” hairstyle. It’s an update on what you think of as an 80s pompadour. He used his own Fix It gel to slick back the sides, a little backcombing and Tame It shine lotion to create texture on top and Beautiful Hold hairspray to keep it in place.
