Chanel Spring 2009 Preview
Some of you may have already found Chanel’s Spring collection at your local counter but for those of you that haven’t been as fortunate, here’s a preview of what’s to come.
For Spring 2009, Chanel’s Global Creative Makeup Director, Peter Phillips, has created a “boho-chic” look. The collection includes two new nail lacquers including Django (beige pink), which was seen on the runways of Paris last September.
While delving through the house archives, Peter Philips, Global Creative Makeup Director for CHANEL, rediscovered gypsy dresses by Gabrielle Chanel. “The Gypsy is a heroine with very distinctive beauty codes,†explains Peter Philips. “After looking through the sketches by Mademoiselle Chanel, I also wanted to play with all of these contrasts. The gypsy’s eyes are as dark as her lips are fiery. She has the passion of travel in her veins, that of celebration, dance, and especially that of darkness and mystery.â€
I was wondering when we’d finally see a purple nail from Chanel and Vendetta (dark violet) is the answer to that question.
Now I don’t know about you but I’m a sucker for packaging so when I saw the LÈVRES SIGNÉES CHANEL Satin Lip Colour, I just about died. Who wouldn’t want to pull that from their purse and just stare?
It’s CHANEL lip colour as you’ve never seen it. Five lush satin lip creme shades, from pale pink to deep plum, form the legendary double C signature in a black lacquered case. Complete with a rich velvet pouch and brush applicator, the compact is the epitome of glamour.
The Chanel Spring 2009 is scheduled to hit counters in January ’09 but it’s already been popping up on counters around the country. Chanel LE VERNIS Nail Colour retails for $23 and the LÈVRES SIGNÉES CHANEL Satin Lip Colour retails for $60.
Celebrity Nail Watch – Julia Allison
Julia who? That’s the exact question I was asking just a few months back when my pal Amber from Beauty Blogging Junkie excitedly shared a link to her interview with Julia (a fab read btw). The former Editor-At-Large for Star Magazine, Julia Allison was a “talking head” on Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, etc. Currently she writes a weekly dating column for Time Out New York and lifecasts on NonSociety.com, the website she co-founded with her friends.
Thanks to Amber’s article, complete with a link to Julia’s lifecast, I’m now obsessed with following her daily happenings on my feed reader. She’s beyond stunning, wizard smart and dresses like Blair Waldorf. What’s not to love? Oh and I’m also convinced that I need a shih tzu puppy like her precious Lilly (pictured above).
Anywho, in the interview Julia discussed her beloved beauty products and application tricks. When the topic of nails came about, she mentioned her favorite brands (Essie, Sally Hansen, Rimmel) and that she wears fakes. Oh the horror! You girls know how I feel about that. I’m all natural baby! Now even though I’m opposed, I get it. When you’re on TV and being photographed regularly, having nice nails is essential and not everyone has the time for a mani each week. Though that is not in ANY way an endorsement for acrylics on my part.
I have to give the girl props though. Julia loves herself a bright, funky nail. I was scrolling back through her lifecast archives when I came across a couple of her past nail looks. Yay, I’ve found another green lover!! How can you not adore her?
Being my nosey self and a green fanatic, I tried get in touch with Ms. Julia to find out what she was wearing. FAIL!! Sad that I would never know the name of that lovely green shade, I was delighted and surprised to see a picture of her fridge (pictured below), filled with nothing but nail polish and water, show up on the NonSociety talk show, TMI Weekly. Lo and behold the mystery green revealed!
I spy Nars Schiap, Essie Shorty Pants, Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Marine Scene and Sinful San Francisco. What do ya know? Sinful Colors are loved by people outside the nail fanatic world. Good times!
Well Ms. Julia, you may be too busy to email me back but your fabulous nail style is worthy of an All Lacquered Up Celebrity Nail Watch. No matter what Mary Rambin says, I love that you aren’t just a sheer/pink/nude wearing gal.

Think Pink for BCA – OPI Pink of Hearts 2
Following up on the success of last year’s Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign, OPI has released Pink Of Hearts 2. They will be making a donation of $25,000 to support Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
“The fight against breast cancer goes on, and so does the commitment of Susan G. Komen for the Cure to help find the cures,†says Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director. “OPI is proud to join with Komen for a second year, with a second shade of Pink of Hearts. It’s our way of opening our hearts to those who are dealing with breast cancer and celebrating those who have survived it.â€
The shade, a creamy warm pink, is semi-sheer but buildable to become opaque. What you see below is two coats but with three the whites disappear.
OPI Pink of Hearts 2 retails for $8.50 and is available at professional salons including ULTA, Trade Secret, JC Penney, Beauty Brands and Regis. I found my bottle at the Great Northern Mall Trade Secret if you’re a local Clevelander looking to score one.
Think Pink for BCA with China Glaze and AII Beauty
It’s time for more “pink” products kids. Go out there and Shop Pink all throughout October.
China Glaze and its parent company AII Beauty are supporting Breast Cancer Awareness month with specially packaged favorites from their nail care lines. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Susan G Komen.
First up a three pack of pink polishes from the China Glaze core collection, each adorned with a BCA pink ribbon. So cute! What’s great is that they included a shade for all tastes. A sheer, a baby pink and a hot, in-your-face fuchsia. Of course I applied the sheer to make it opaque. I just can’t do sheers!
Next up, treatment products from China Glaze and Seche.
China Glaze’s BCA Calcium Gel Fortifier is loaded with Vitamin B and Wheat Protein to protect nails from splitting or breaking while promoting growth. Apply two coats to bare nails, repeat every four days and see a difference in just four weeks. It is recommended that you use the Calcium Gel Fortifier on its own, without polish.
If Seche Vite isn’t already in your nail arsenal, you’re totally missing out. A favorite of the MUA Nail Board and staple in my nail routine, Seche Vite is one of the best quick drying top coats on the market. High gloss shine that lasts, rock hard protection and a five minute dry time. What’s not to love?
Application Tip: Unlike most top coats, you want to have a good sized blob of product on the brush. Quickly drag the blob across your nail and let the formula spread on its own.
For BCA Month, Seche is including a set of pink ribbon nail decals and crystal nail gems with each bottle of Vite. I’m not really into nail art but these were too cute to pass up. And so easy to apply. Just peel and stick, simple as that!
Finally, from AII Beauty brand, Body Drench, comes the Pink Ribbon version of their Daily Moisturizing Lotion with a portion of the proceeds going to The Cancer Institute of New Jersey. The Daily Moisturizing Lotion was dubbed The Original “Bosom Cream” because of its frequent use by women who had undergone mastectomy surgery to help reduce scarring and to increase comfort when wearing a bra.
As a former indoor tanner (don’t heckle me), Body Drench lotions have been in my household for years. They market the indoor tanning community but have products for everyone. Can I just tell you, the Sun Splashed Mango scent is amazing for summer. What I love is that the lotion sinks right into your skin. There’s no white streaks left behind. And the original baby powder scent is light and sweet, not overpowering.
So while you’re shopping this month, consider buying products that make a difference and help support the Breast Cancer Awareness initiative in any way you can.
Don’t forget, I’m participating in the Beauty Blog Network’s Comments For A Cure campaign and it starts TOMORROW!
And if you haven’t entered my Think Pink – Donate & Win giveaway, you still have time!

Rescue Beauty Lounge for Fall/Winter 2008
Since previewing the Rescue Beauty Lounge Fall/Winter collection to you a little over a month ago it has already sold out once on the RBL site. Talk about a hit! Ji Baek’s vision of “luxe grunge” has come to life with these four creme polishes.
I was beyond excited to have the opportunity to test these beauties out and they all wowed me in different ways. I’ve been having this total nostalgia for the early 90s and my days of living in flannel, Birks and grunge gear after reconnecting with some of my college pals on Facebook (that site is totally addicting), and these colors fit right into that. They have this gritty, dusty, funky vibe that I’m so feeling. The creme finish makes them chic, not at all garish.
Plie is a re-promoted muted beige pink. It’s a great daytime neutral that is so out of my wheelhouse yet I’m oddly drawn to it. It was actually the first color I put on from this set and that’s so not me. I think because it doesn’t feel all super girly and frou-frou. Just elegant and classic. And for being such a light color, I was impressed with its opacity.
Bruised is a red based browned plum though I don’t really get the name. I bruise so easily and heal terribly that I could only wish my bruises had such a pretty color. I mean, when you have marks that last six months (and I’m not exaggerating) you’d much rather them be somewhat attractive. Anywho, Bruised applied like a dream and hardly needed two coats.
Teal is the hands down winner here though I’m sure you all knew I’d say that. It’s a blend of my two favorite colors, blue & green. How could this not be a knockout? It’s the color of the lake just before a storm. All murky and creepy yet stunningly gorgeous. I wore this last weekend and loved every second of it. Need I say more?
No More War – OK I know what you’re all thinking. Split pea soup. I’m not denying that. It’s totally fugly and crazy looking but you gotta give the girl props for going way outside the box on this one. I mean, who has this color in their nail arsenal? And that’s exactly the point. This is the polish version of Tyra’s “ugly pretty” on ANTM.
The Rescue Beauty Lounge Fall/Winter collection retails for $18/ea and is available now on RescueBeauty.com. Though as an added bonus, from now through 10/31/08, get FREE SHIPPING when you order the Treatment System. Considering how much we all bitch about shipping costs, that’s a sweet deal. I’ve heard good things about the Treatment System so now would be the time to jump on it.
