ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – MAC Ocean Dip from the Surf Baby Collection

mac ocean dip nail polish surf baby collection 2011 365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.

This week marks the launch of the MAC Surf Baby collection. It is already for sale on MAC’s website and releases in store this Thursday, May 26th.

Much like florals and pastels are heavily associated with Spring, beach themed collections go hand-in-hand with Summer. Summer 2007 brought the China Glaze Surf collection, 2008 the OPI Retro Fun In The Sun and 2010 saw RBL Surf’s Up.

This year MAC is heading to the beach with one of their classic themed summer collections with packaging to match and they didn’t leave the nail polish out of the fun. Surf Baby includes two new nail polish colors, Ocean Dip and Hangin’ Loose and I have the former to share with you today.

One of the cult classic pale yellows is Maybelline Banana Puddin, a color that I covet but have never owned. My friend Christine has a bottle so I’ve seen its gorgeousness in person, I have just never worn it. From what I hear it’s a real bother to work with but oh is the color worth it.

Since I first saw Banana Puddin on MUA many years ago I’ve had this inner yearning for the perfect pastel yellow. Something that isn’t too chalky, pale or golden. Hello Kitty Banana Cream just may be it.

In case you had not heard, California preacher Harold Camping predicted a “rapture” would come down upon us today starting at 6pm in each time zone. Since our fellow Australian fanatics were unharmed earlier today, I think it’s safe to poke a little fun at the impending doom. In fact, the boyfriend and I are going to a Rapture Happy Hour and myself and a lot of my FourSquare friends checked in to “The Rapture.” If we’re going out, may as well go having fun.

So why not wear a Rapture inspired manicure, right? Oddly enough China Glaze Rapture is in my untrieds pile. I almost forgot I had it. It’s one of the famed holographic glitter polishes from the Urban Chic collection along with Crystal Ball and Grape Crush. While I’ve worn the latter two shades multiple times, Rapture has yet to grace my tips.

Happy Friday Fanatics! I hope you all have something fun planned for the weekend. We are finally, FINALLY, seeing the sunlight at the end of the rain tunnel that has enveloped Cleveland and I plan to enjoy it.

So with all this good weather, what am I doing wearing jet black on my nails? Well tune in tomorrow as you’ll see that I have a very good reason for going to the dark side with my manicure. Until then check out one of the best black polishes on the market, CND Blackjack.

ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – “French Twist” Manicure with Zoya Caitlin & Dove

Today I’m recreating a look straight from the NYFW runways. Over the past few years Zoya has become quite a presence at Fashion Week and during the Fall 2011 shows they came up with a look they’re calling the “French Twist.”

Using two polishes from the Spring 2011 Intimate Collection, I tested my freehand skills polishing a French tip.  Keep reading to see how it turned out.
