ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – Eyeko Cosmic Polish
365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.
My friend, and fellow blogger, Izzy from Musings of a Muse introduced me to the Japanese influenced UK brand, Eyeko, a couple years ago. She told me that had adorable, cheap nail polish and free (at the time) shipping so I couldn’t resist ordering them all. The problem… the “adorable” bottles were a pain to use. They were essentially mini mason jars with thin metal screw-top caps with a brush attached. Totally awkward to hold. So I chalked them up as cute collector items but not functional. Thankfully Eyeko saw fit to change the packaging and today I’m giving their Cosmic Polish a whirl. |
ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – Essie Pink Parka
365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.
Last week we talked about the J.Crew ad featuring Jenna Lyons painting her son’s toe nails bright pink. It caused quite a stir with some conservatives out there and to show support of Jenna, someone of Facebook created an event asking members to paint their nails pink on April 22nd. Like I said in my original post about this, most people I know were more curious about the nail polish color than what Jenna was doing to her son’s toes. The color used in the ad is called “Peep Show,” a shade made exclusively for J.Crew which has now sold out (not surprising). Essie Pink Parka from the Fall 2009 collection is said to be a dupe for Peep Show so I polished my nails with it today as a sign of support. ***Edited to add – Apparently I was misinformed when told that Pink Parka was a dupe for Peep Show. Cute As A Button is a better match.*** |

Yesterday the boyfriend and I hit the 12-year mark in our relationship. It’s kind of unbelievable when I think about it. How young we were, even though I thought I had lived a thousand lifetimes. How random our meeting was via an old high school friend I hadn’t seen in years. How we have built this wonderful life together with no real plan to it all. I’m very lucky to have him in my life, though saying “12 years” sure does make me feel old. Since the boyfriend is a fan of red nails, as many men are, I decided to polish them with a fiery red hue recommended to me by Athena Elliot host of Nail Talk Radio. She told me that Miss Marion Garnet has magical qualities so I just had to get a bottle and find out for myself. |
ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – Sephora by OPI 212-Sephora
365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.When Sephora by OPI first launched it got its share of flack from the nail community. One, it was given the nickname $OPI, with a dollar sign, due to the fact that it costs more than regular OPI nail polishes. Second, a lot of us questioned whether the line would consist of just old, recycled OPI shades, or if it would truly have its own unique offerings. Third, would this water down the OPI brand?
Well, even though it still costs more than regular OPIs, I think we can safely say that the other two concerns were unwarranted. The SOPI line hasn’t affected the popularity of OPI and it has had its fair share of original colors and collections. One of those happens to be Sephora by OPI 212-Sephora. Named for the telephone number to Sephora’s Times Square location, this color was launched to celebrate the store’s opening. |
ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – OPI Cool in the Pool
365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.
There used to be a time, before nail polish blogs and before the vultures on eBay realized they could stalk message boards to learn which polishes are hard-to-find, when you could score some really great treasures online for a decent price. One of those scores was when I bid on the entire OPI Summer Splash collection from Summer 2004 and got it for a song. I was only after Pooltime Lime but if I could get the whole set for next to nothing, why not? OPI Cool in the Pool is one of the polishes from that collection and I feel like I’ve been hanging on to it because it is rare, not because I love it, which just sounds greedy. I haven’t cracked open the bottle until now because deep down inside I know it’s probably not for me. Let’s see if I was right. |
