ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – OPI Big Hair… Big Nails
365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.
I’ve received a few questions lately regarding “jelly” polishes. About what makes a polish a jelly and more specifically about the OPI “sorbet-like” finish nail polishes from the Texas collection and if/how they are different from a jelly. I found a great reference picture on Tumblr that helps explain jellies better. Today a follower on Twitter asked for a spring nail polish recommendation and stated that she is a loyal OPI Bubble Bath user but is looking to branch out into brighter colors. My suggestion was to try one of the sorbet-like polishes, like OPI Big Hair… Big Nails, since they are less in-your-face than a traditional bright. It makes for an easier transition from pale neutrals. |
ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – MAC Biker Blue
365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.
I’ve had a love/hate relationship with MAC polishes for a long time now. At first it was issues with the formula but that has greatly improved. I used to say that MAC was only good for dark & sparkly polishes but since the formula change that’s no longer the case. Now my major point of contention is with the brush. Can we start some sort of petition to change that horrible stiff brush? I propose MAC switch to the brush in the mini bottles from their Tartan Holiday collection as it was truly fabulous! The current brush is hindering fabulous colors, like MAC Biker Blue, from achieving their true potential. |
ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – Hard Candy Mr. Wrong
365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.
When I first heard that the Hard Candy line was re-launching at WalMart I was excited about the possibility of some beloved vintage shades coming back. However, the line felt like it was geared to a much younger age range so I didn’t seek it out and it pretty much was put on the back burner. Then my friend Steph commented on yesterday’s post that I should try Hard Candy Mr. Wrong and I was all, “HARD CANDY!! How did I forget?” Seriously, I’ve had Mr. Wrong sitting in my stash for a year and a half still sealed in the plastic wrapper. |
ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – Confetti Happy Birthday!
365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.
May is my favorite month of the year. For one, it’s when we start to get consistently nice weather in the CLE. Finally! Second, it’s my birthday month. My birthday is the last day of the month so it usually coincides with Memorial Day Weekend which I consider the kickoff to the summer season. Third, May’s birthstone is the emerald which is most likely the cause of my green nail polish obsession. Sometime last summer I noticed the Confetti brand of nail polish popping up at local CVS stores. The range is affordable and filled with a lot of eye catching shades. I’ve had a few of them in my stash for a while now but haven’t used a single one until today. My birthday may be 29 days away but why not start celebrating early by wearing Confetti Happy Birthday! |
ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – Sephora by OPI Let’s Plié
365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.
While everyone was buzzing about the Sephora by OPI Glee collection, the more low-key Urban Ballerina collection quietly came on the scene. Given the hype surrounding Black Swan, I’m amazed that the collection didn’t get more lip service. As a little girl I was always obsessed with dance and dance movies, watching films like Fame and Flashdance way before I was old enough to see them. I even took ballet lessons for a hot second before admitting that I lacked the natural talent and coordination required. Now even though I’m known for my love of bold nail color, I have moments where I want a more subdued feminine look so I took Sephora by OPI Let’s Plié for a spin on the dance floor. |
