The Terrible Twos – ALU’s 2nd Anniversary
Happy New Year Kids! I hope you all had a fantastic NYE and remembered to eat some good luck foods on New Year’s Day. I know my superstitious self had pork and sauerkraut in hopes that 2009 is my best year yet. I have so many fun ideas for ALU and I hope you’ll stick with me to see them.
Yesterday, January 2nd, was All Lacquered Up’s official two year anniversary and I can’t help but reflect on all the amazing gifts writing this blog has given me. Most importantly, all of you. Your comments and emails mean the world to me. Thank you for coming back, day after day, to share your passion and polish fanaticism with me.
As I look back on 2008, it was such an amazing year in polish. When I made my wish list for the year I had no idea so many of my lacquer dreams would come true. I mean, hello, I’m on GREEN overload thanks to China Glaze, Rescue Beauty Lounge, Barielle, Sally Hansen and OPI.
Not only that but I got to meet a bunch of my fellow bloggers who have become great friends. I had the chance to go backstage at New York Fashion Week. Who would ever have imagined a polish freak like me would get that opportunity? I met nail industry idols like Ji Baek, Jin Soon and Elle and had the pleasure of watching CND’s fashion week team at work. Not to mention getting to meet the ladies of China Glaze. It’s an embarrassment of riches. So much so that I feel greedy making a wish list for this year.
So instead of making wishes, let’s turn this into a Fanatic Feedback. What are your polish wishes and lacquer dreams for 2009? Let’s see what we can make happen together.
FYI, due to the overwhelming response to the Fanatics Favorites Survery, the results and winners announcement is delayed until Monday January 5th. Thanks for your patience
I’m In GLAMOUR Magazine!!!
Someone pinch me! No wait that’s not enough, slap me in the face. I must be dreaming because I’m in GLAMOUR magazine. Can I say that again please? I’M IN GLAMOUR MAGAZINE!!!
A reader emailed me this morning to tell me about the mention (thanks Steph!) and I had to run right out and grab a copy (I’m not waiting for mine to come in the mail). On page 126 of the September 2008 issue, with Penelope Cruz on the cover, I’m part of Andrea Pomerantz Lustig’s Beauty Q&A column. Can you believe it? I’m still in shock.
A few months back when Andrea asked my advice on applying metallic polishes (who doesn’t have problems with them), I wasn’t sure exactly how she’d use it. Well color me happy to see my tip show up in print.
I’ve been a subscriber to Glamour for as long as I can remember and I’m not even kissing ass by saying that Andrea’s column has always been a fav of mine. Even back when it was just a sidebar of beauty Dos and Don’ts. I’ve picked up so many great beauty tips from her over the years so to see my name and All Lacquered Up on that page is a huge honor and thrill.
All Lacquered Up in NAILPRO Magazine
Check it out you guys! I’m in July’s issue of NAILPRO Magazine. As part of the Nailing The News feature, there is a piece on beauty bloggers that taps yours truly, A Girl’s Gotta Spa and The Beauty Blog Network as favorite reads. How cool is that?
The issue also features the first America’s Next Top Model winner, Adrienne Curry, on the cover. She’s stunning for sure but does her nose look different to you? I think someone had some work done and I’m not just talking about her boobs. |
The Fish Pedicure Has Hit the U.S.
Some of you may remember me talking about the Fish Pedicure last year after seeing Wilhelmina Slater plunge her feet into a tub of “Dr. Fish” on Ugly Betty. Well, as I discovered on the Solessence blog this morning, those little skin eating babies have made their way Stateside.
Previously found only in Turkey and Asian countries, the Yvonne Hair and Nails salon in Alexandria, Virginia is the first location in the U.S. to offer this treatment. Owners John Ho & Yvonne Le have brought in more than 1,000 garru-rufa fish to serve their clientele. The service costs $35 for 15 minutes and $50 for 30 minutes and is followed by a standard pedicure.
Now I’m sure that like me you’re wondering how any of this is sanitary or regulated. Unlike the communal pools seen overseas, the state board required the owners to create individual tanks in which the water is changed for each customer.
So how many of you are dying to try this out? The customers interviewed all said they just felt a bit of tingling or slightly ticklish sensation. Maybe I stand alone but I’m so ready to hop a plane to D.C. and try it out.

Brunch with China Glaze & A Holiday Teaser
One of the highlights of my trip to L.A. in May was getting the opportunity to finally have a face-to-face with the fab team representing China Glaze. Living in the Cleveburg, I don’t run across too many people in my everyday life that really get what I do or my passion for polish. And considering my love for China Glaze lacquers, you can only imagine how jazzed I was for brunch.
Those of you on MySpace or MUA will know Amy as the woman behind the China Glaze IDs. She is the Associate Brand Manager and color genius that dreams up the incredible collections we all freak for. And can I just say that if you’re already drooling over Fall, you’re gonna faint over what’s coming next Spring and Summer. Anne & Irene are the PR & Advertising whizzes that put out all the fun collection images and keep us in the loop on China Glaze news.
Brunch was so much fun and totally delish! Apple stuffed pancakes, need I say more? And lots of time to gab about polish, China Glaze and All Lacquered Up. Though I may have monopolized the convo with my babbling and gushing. Those of you who’ve met me know I can chatter on. But, it was great getting to meet the ladies, share my love of polish with them and learn more about China Glaze and their parent company, AII Beauty.
And then there was my total freak out moment. The second I spotted the most gorgeous green I’ve ever seen and had to resist grabbing Amy’s hands to get a closer look. Green lovers, you are gonna DIE! How many times have we said on the nail board that there needs to be an emerald Ruby Pumps? How many times??? Well it’s here. OMG is it here! Emerald Sparkle will be out this Fall as part of a special two color Holiday collection and it’s oh so gorg!
Can you even handle it? I can’t! There will be a full review and swatch images of Emerald Sparkle and its silver counterpart, Tinsel, soon but I couldn’t resist giving you a little peek. Are you like totally in love or what?
