Rescue Beauty Lounge Fall 2009 Blogger Created Collection
If the amazing Ji Baek, founder of Rescue Beauty Lounge, asked you to create your dream polish what would you do? After picking yourself up off the floor of course. All fainting aside, that was the honor/privilege/challenge bestowed upon myself and fellow nail bloggers Polish Addict and Scrangie. If I do say so myself, we rose to the occasion contributing to one knockout of a Fall collection. We didn’t set out to create a matched set but my purple, Steph’s green and Scrangie’s sparkling mix of the two is a green & purple lovers delight. Check them out along with Rescue’s new Matte Top Coat after the jump! |
Now that Steph is back to posting and has had a chance to reveal her creation, I can show you my swatches of the set. As per usual, the consistency and pigmentation of all three shades live up to Rescue’s amazing reputation. I know of no other cremes that are so spot on in application, coverage and finish. It’s unreal!
You’ve seen Mismas before but a reader commented that my original image didn’t do the color any favors so here is take two. Seriously you guys I NEVER wear polishes more than once. With as many as I have it doesn’t make sense. But I have had Mismas on my toes or fingers for pretty much the entire summer, I love it that much. I wanted the perfect purple creme and now I have it. Ji, I love you for creating her. She’s simply spectacular!
Here’s my girl with Ji’s new Matte Top Coat. The formula is milky in appearance and is one of the most mattifying top coats I’ve tried. It gives a frosted glass look and the milkiness lightens the hue ever so slightly.
When I heard Steph from Polish Addict was creating a grayed green creme, I knew without even seeing it that Orbis Non Sufficit and I would be lifelong friends. It’s just dusty enough to stand out among every other green I own.
I think I like it even better as a Matte. What about you? One word of caution with matte top coats. They are very unforgiving in regards to imperfections so use just a few quick, even strokes for a smooth finish.
Images really don’t do Scrangie justice. You have to see the blue-green shimmer in person to truly appreciate it. According to Scrangie, the inspiration was a beetle wing. The bluish-purple base is filled with iridescent shimmer and glitter to create one blingtastic polish.
Of all three polishes in this collection I think Scrangie makes the best Matte. Maybe it’s just me but I prefer to mattify shimmer/glitter polishes. It’s like you’re freezing the sparkle in time or something.
The Blogger created Fall 2009 collection from Rescue Beauty Lounge is available for Pre-Order NOW and will ship very, very soon. The polishes and Matte Top Coat retail for $18/ea. If you don’t want to miss out on any of these colors, I suggest you order as soon as possible as the polishes are limited edition.
So what do you think Fanatics?? How did we do? Which polishes do you plan to order? Will these be your first RBLs or just additions to your growing stash?
Introducing Rescue Beauty Lounge Mismas
When Ji approached me with her idea of creating my ultimate fantasy color I was shocked with disbelief. I mean what an opportunity. How did I get so lucky? Even now, looking at the bottle, it seems surreal.
Of course a million ideas ran through my head and it felt like such a daunting task to come up with one shade. One color that would represent me and fulfill a dream. Now I’m sure most of you expected a green from me but I wanted do go a different route. The way I see it, over the past couple years so many amazing greens, including RBL Recycle, have come out that I couldn’t imagine competing.
So I looked at my polish stash and the RBL lineup and came up with a shade I felt was missing from both; a deep purple creme. Ji does cremes like no other so I knew I was playing into her strength. And while I have many purple shades I love, they’re mostly shimmers/glitters. All of my cremes are either too sheer, too red, too blue, too bright or too “almost black” and so with that in mind, Mismas was born.
All I can say is Ji nailed it. Like seriously nailed it. I sent her a few pics as ideas for the color and she got the shade on the first try. It was just a little too pigmented. On round two we had perfection. It’s utterly gorgeous and I am PROUD to put my name on it.
Ji also created a Matte Top Coat to accompany this collection.
Completing the collection is a Matte Topcoat. “The sea of neon brights and ‘80’s styles on the runways left me baffled. Then there was Lanvin, with its gorgeous play of textures in black-on-black.â€
Baek set out to create a truly matte topcoat that not only protected your polish color, but would leave your nails with a rich flat finish, like bisque china. Of course it’s without Touluene, Formaldehyde, or DBP.
The collection launches in September. The polishes retail for $18 and can be purchased online at RescueBeauty.com.
Now head on over to Scrangie.com to check out her creation. A shade she describes as “sparkly, fascinating, beautiful and a bit unusual.”
Steph from PolishAddict.com will hopefully be posting her color for us to see soon as I know she’s been busy and on a blogging break. I hope to have the other blogger creations to show you soon.
What do you think? Will you be picking up a bottle of Mismas?
EXCITING Rescue Beauty Lounge News
Happy Friday Fanatics! It’s actually a VERY happy Friday because I can finally share the deets on the next release from Rescue Beauty Lounge and it’s MAJOR. I’ve been DYING to tell you all about this for what seems like forever and here’s why…
Last winter the lovely Ji Baek contacted me, asking if I would be interested in creating my dream Rescue polish. Um HELLO, are you kidding?? On what planet would I say anything but a screeching “YES!”??
So for the past few months myself and two other lucky bloggers (Polish Addict & Scrangie) have been working with Ji as she custom blended our perfect shade and they’ll be coming soon to the RBL site. Can you even? I seriously feel like this isn’t my life and in all honestly nothing like this would have ever been possible without your loyal readership and support.
Now I’m sure you’re wondering what kind of crazy concoction I came up with. Well what I wanted is something I don’t own, that I felt was missing from the RBL lineup, and that would fit with Ji’s chic aesthetic. I already own way too many emerald greens to satisfy my needs but what I don’t have and can’t seem to find is the quintessential purple creme and you guys she NAILED it (no pun intended).
Fellow purple lovers you’re gonna drool. I’ve been wearing the lab sample around and getting nothing but compliments. I can’t WAIT for you to see it. The best part… I got to name it so get ready to see MISMAS on a bottle of RBL some time in late July or early August.
Rescue Beauty Lounge – Gritty & Vampy
I finally had a chance to play with the rest of my Rescue Beauty Lounge sale order. The first half that I showed you had fun, summery colors but I also picked up some of Ji’s more edgy hues.
Coincidentally, a reader commented this morning on my swatch request post from Sunday asking to see a swatch of Black Russian. Is she psychic? Well, darling reader I’ll do you one better. Check out Black Russian next to its kissing cousins China Glaze Lubu Heels and Piggy Polish Midnight Fireflies after the jump! |
Grunge represents its name well. It has a chic, hipster edge. In spite of the hint of shimmer I see in the bottle, this light mushroom taupe dries creamy. I don’t know that I’m loving it on me though. It needed three coats which is no bueno for a RBL. Plus my skin tone doesn’t seem to agree with it. I think the pale, olive or dark complected would do better with Grunge. What do you think?
Au Chocolat is pretty close to perfection. Rich and delicious there’s no overbearing undercurrent of redness screwing up the chocolatey vibe. It has warmth without becoming a browned red and it’s light enough to avoid the “almost black” syndrome, like I dipped my fingers in melted Special Dark. LOVE LOVE LOVE!
Black Russian, formerly known as Revamp, has been on my wish list for quite some time. I remember back when the MUA nail board was hoping for blacks with colored glitter (red, pink, green, etc.) and Black Russian was discovered. A semi-sheer black creme packed with fine red micro-glitter this shade is pure decadence. It screams mystery. The glitter is fine enough to not be obtrusive or cause major texture when dry. It just peeks out when the light hits it like a surprise. Very sexy.
Of course Black Russian isn’t the only black with red glitter on the block. Here it is next to China Glaze Lubu Heels and Piggy Polish Midnight Fireflies which has unfortunately been discontinued. The glitter in Lubu Heels and Midnight Fireflies is more apparent but the cost is a rougher finish. Plus the base of those two is more sheer than the RBL, requiring three coats to Black Russian’s two.
Unfortunately the RBL sale was a brief afternoon affair but if there’s a shade you’re just dying to have, you can pick them up at RescueBeauty.com. Grunge is currently out of stock but you can pre-order it to ship when the next batch comes in.
Thoughts on my new RBL treasures? Any you think are must haves? What color glitter would you like to see in a black polish?
Rescue Beauty Lounge – Light & Bright
I love getting little boxes in the mail. Some of you may recall that the boyfriend dubbed me, L.B. after all the “little boxes” that end up on our doorstep due to my fanaticism. So when I came home to not one but two little boxes in the same week from the Rescue Beauty Lounge sales, you can imagine my delight. Tearing through packages to uncover my new treasures. Wanna see what I hauled? Check out the first half after the jump! |
Bikini Bottom is a sweet, watery, pastel blue jelly. It’s not intended to opaque so just be warned that it takes a good four coats to look as it does below. The whole Spongebob inspired collection was meant to be worn sheer. I’m just not down with the sheer angle so I’ll weather the extra coats to get this gorgeous look.
Purple Haze surprised me. I expected it to be lighter, more lavendar (i.e. hideous) on me. I ordered anyway to see if I’d luck out with a winner. Luck out indeed!! I LURVE it!! The creamy, glossy finish. The mid-tone violet hue. It’s all working for me in a major way. How did I not own this sooner? How? The boyfriend says I look my best wearing purple and I actually own a top this shade that he loves me in so I know he’ll love this on me too.
Don’t be fooled by the pictures, Yellow Fever is a problem child. I’ve never had a RBL shade give me application issues until this baby walked into my life. Love the shade, love the slightly shimmery finish. LOVE! But what I don’t love is the three coats and streaking I encountered. It’s not insurmountable, obviously, I was just disappointed.
I’ll be sharing the second half of my haul with you soon but in the meantime… for those of you that ordered from the RBL sale, how are you liking your hauls? Which shade made you all giddy-like? Share!
