A Reason To Pierce My Ears – Chanel Nail Polish Earrings

chanel, chanel logoA fact you may not know about me is that I don’t have pierced ears. I did it once when I was twelve but they didn’t last past the starter phase. When it came time to replace the studs, the holes weren’t fully healed, the sensation freaked me out and I waited too long to put them back in. Add to that the sound of my Dad saying, “give ‘em to me, I’ll get them back in,” and it was more than enough for me to call it quits on the idea of ever wearing earrings.

However, I saw something last Friday at Saks that just may change my stance on the issue. CHANEL NAIL POLISH CHARM EARRINGS!!! Yes, that deserved all caps. Girls you don’t even understand, I haven’t full on swooned over something other than polish in a while.

The polish bottles themselves are to die for. Pictured below on the matching charm bracelet, the bottles appear to be filled with a glittery lilac shade of polish. You can even see the little sparkles inside!

The matching charm bracelet retails for $1,035. See your local CHANEL Accessories counter for ordering details.

Shu Uemura Fall 2008 Preview

So last Friday I met up with Annie and her Cleveland shopping gang to check out the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Beauty Exclusives and gab over dinner. Of course I had no time the night before to do a mani so I arrived bare nailed while they were all perfectly polished. Though having naked tips ended up being ideal for swatching since the first thing out of all of their mouths was about the Fall collection Shu Uemura tester display and the polish I just HAD to see.

I beelined past all the exclusives, straight to our brand new Shu counter to witness the magic. OMG you guys, it’s sooo gorgeous! I immediately did a swatch to the sound of oohs and ahhs. A luscious browned berry vamp with gold flecks of glitter, I’m wondering if this may be a twin to fan favorite, the long discontinued Pomegranate Pom Pom from FingerPaints. When the bottle I pre-ordered arrives, I’ll do a full on dupe search.

Since our Shu counter is so new, details are sketchy at best. The MUA didn’t know the release date or price though I’m assuming it will cost $16 like other Shu polishes. And can you believe I didn’t even write down the name? It’s PA and some number which totally doesn’t help but look for it with a display of four stunning shadow duos, including an amazing blackened green/bronze combo.

NYC New York Color Nail Glossies Fall 2008

I first discovered drugstore gem N.Y.C. (New York Color) through my fellow fanatics on the MUA nail board. It was a swatch picture of Skin Tight Demin (a gorg navy) from their Long-Wearing line that drew me in. A quick trip to Target and I was adding Skin Tight Demin, Big Money Frost and Turquoise Seas from the Nail Glossies line to my collection.

I’ve always been very pleased with my N.Y.C. polishes. They are affordable, Big 3 Free and have a varied color range that isn’t overwhelmingly large. But what has really caught the attention of all us fanatics are the Limited Edition Nail Glossies shades that accompany their Fall makeup collections. Fall 2006 brought us the rich glittering Cognac Sparkle, a shade that still creates lemmings on the nail board. It was so popular that girls were stalking it at every drugstore in town and buying extras for other nail boarders. Same thing happened when Midnight, a teal tinged blue-black sparkler, hit shelves last year. And I have a feeling they may have another hit on their hands.

Molten Metal from this Fall’s collection will fit right in with the metallic trend we’re seeing. A mix of silver glitter and bronzey red base, the overall shade is hard to describe. In sunlight it’s pewter, indoors the base gives it a rosy cast. It’s unique, that’s for sure! I used 3 thin coats to achieve bottle color and used a high gloss top coat since it dries a bit matte.

They aren’t restocked and come in a special display that only holds 3 bottles. So if you’re digging this color you have to be on the ball.

Molten Metal and the rest of the Fall N.Y.C. color collection will hit shelves in September and can be found in drugstores and mass merchandisers like Target, CVS, Walmart, Rite Aid and ULTA.

OPI & 90210 News

As if the revival of 90s teen drama, 90210, wasn’t exciting enough. Now we have an 90210 themed OPI collection to boot! According to NYLON Magazine, OPI has created a limited edition lineup of polishes set to launch when the series premieres.

Details are limited so until I hear more, let’s throw out some name and shade ideas based on the original characters. I’d create a “KEG House” shade since the fraternity’s color was GREEN.

Sephora by OPI

Nail polish powerhouse OPI has teamed up with beauty superstore Sephora to create an exclusive line of nail colors, nail treatments and hand care products. Dubbed Sephora by OPI the brand will launch with a whopping 54 nail lacquers that will run the gamut from sheer to vampy with a smattering of funky thrown in for girls like me.

They certainly covered the bases in regards to nail treatments. In addition to the standard Base & Top Coat ($9) and Remover ($9), Sephora by OPI includes a Nail Strengthener ($9), Nail Hydrator ($9), Nail Brightener ($9) and Nail Colour Drying Drops ($14).

The hand and nail care products come in sleek black packaging and include an Exfoliating Scrub ($10), Daily Hand Moisturizer ($9), Restorative Hand Moisturizer ($10), Brush-On Cuticle Oil ($9) and Nail Pads ($6) for polish removal on the go.

And now for the most important piece of the collection, the polish. The Nail Colour ($9) collection was designed for Sephora by OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director Suzi Weiss-Fischmann. As we would expect, Suzi put that fun OPI spin on all the names and created a really diverse color palette.

In addition to a slew of new shades, the Sephora by OPI collection introduces a new bottle shape to the market. Taller, weightier and more rounded than traditional OPI bottles, they have a sleeker, more sophisticated feel. Though they can be a pain to open the first time. The smooth caps + super tight seal = calling the boyfriend for help.

Even though I haven’t tested all 54 shades I can already call out some early favorites based on the bottle colors/palettes I’ve seen. Run With It! (shimmery sandy gray), Never Enough Shoes (edgy glittering black), Cab Fare (sparkly lemon yellow), Queen of Everything (metallic silver-gold mix) and Note To Self (gold flecked orange). Here’s a sneak peak of the colors I’ll be testing.

The Sephora by OPI collection will be avaialable in stores and on the Sephora.com website beginning in August.
