Winter 2010
Chanel Riva Nail Polish Available Now
If you’ve ordered from Chanel.com in the past you undoubtedly received the same email I did regarding the launch of the Chanel Côte d’Azur collection. In case you didn’t, here are the deets!
Debuting at the CHANEL Cruise Collection 2010 – 2011 fashion show in Saint Tropez on May 11th, Peter Philips, Global Creative Director of CHANEL Makeup, was inspired by the location to create a playful collection that flirts with the sun. “Effortless, natural beauty, relaxed girls who are enjoying their holidays. That was the main idea behind the look for this show. And we added a touch of playfulness by applying a pastel baby blue nail polish”, says Peter Philips.
In CHANEL COLLECTION CÔTE D’AZUR, lips are adorned with Rouge Coco Hydrating Crème Lip Colour in four soft, summery shades: Perlé, Chintz, Taffeta Rose and Sari Doré. The playful spirit is accentuated down to the fingertips with the pastel blue lacquer, Le Vernis Nail Colour in Riva.
Rouge Coco Hydrating Crème Lip Colour: $30.00
Le Vernis Nail Colour in Riva: $27.00
Available for limited time exclusively at CHANEL.com, CHANEL Makeup Studios and CHANEL boutiques.
I haven’t seen the color yet but I’ll be sure to post a review as soon as it arrives. How many of you intend to order Riva? A pale blue in the winter reminds me of the China Glaze Bahama Blues collection. It was such a breath of fresh air in contrast to the drab winter weather. I hope Riva will have the same feel though the $27 price tag is a bit much.
OPI Katy Perry Collection Preview
OPI also revealed info on their Katy Perry collaboration today. Can I just say that I’m so happy to see OPI finally embracing social media and not pretending a collection doesn’t exist until the day it launches in stores? In this collection, the colors range from a confectionery pink to a bold blue that seemed to be pulled straight from Katy’s California Gurls video.
From left to right: Last Friday Night, Not Like the Movies, The One That Got Away, Teenage Dream and Black Shatter.
It’s obvious that the glitter party is nowhere near over in nail world. After all the Deborah Lippmann and China Glaze Holiday glitters plus the OPI Alice & Burlesque sparklers the train to Glitter Town won’t be reaching the end of the line anytime soon.
What are your thoughts on these? Are they what you would expect from a collection involving Katy Perry? Do you think that OPI including “Shatter” polishes in two collections means that we’re going to get inundated with crackle from the other major polish brands? Will you give into the cracked polish effect?
UPDATE: Thanks to the readers who pointed out that OPI posted a video on YouTube showing the colors and shatter effect
OPI Serena Williams Grand Slam Preview – Simply Smashing
OPI brings us a peek at the first duo from the Serena Williams Grand Slam collection. This set is the first of four and will release in January to coincide with the Australian Open. The duo includes the metallic green, Simply Smashing, paired with OPI’s first crackle polish, Black Shatter.
The green looks like a sister to NARS Mash so I’ll be curious to see how it compares. The “shatter” polish is not what comes to mind when I think of crackle polish. It’s much more sparse and chunky.
I wonder if this means that all of the Serena Grand Slam duos will include a different “Shatter” color. What do you think?

Essie Winter 2010 – A Winter’s Tale Collection Preview
Essie’s Winter collection, A Winter’s Tale, brings us yet another GREEN! You’d think I’d get sick of greens after a while but I really don’t. I still get excited when a new one comes out in hopes that it will be totally different from the plethora of greens in my Hoarders-worthy collection.
Chase winter’s chill with a shot of smoldering color and a hint of mystery. Whether it’s a glittering New Year’s Eve bash or a quiet tête-à-tête by the fire, this sexy palette of intriguing colors speak volumes without you ever uttering a word. As you make your entrance, let them be beguiled as they wonder, “Who is that Masquerade Belle?” Check out a preview of the colors including bottle shots and color descriptions after the jump! |
Justin Bieber Nail Polish?? Really??
Justin Bieber’s collaboration with Nicole by OPI, the One Less Lonely Girl Collection, was the first topic of discussion last night on my fave late night talk show, Chelsea Lately. The conversation that took place at the roundtable pretty much sums up my feelings on the subject. Does he even know this is happening? As Chelsea later mentioned, why not come out with a hair product? People have been asking me about this for a few days now and my only real response is, “I can’t with the Bieber!”
“So Justin Bieber has his own nail polish line. [long pause & incredulous stare] This is as close as any girl is ever going to get to one of his fingers. He probably doesn’t even know that he has a nail polish line. He probably has no idea that this even exits. – Chelsea Handler on Chelsea Lately
“It’s so humiliating. Like you know he doesn’t want to launch nail polish. He’s like ‘Hey Mom, can’t we launch basketballs? Can’t we launch basketballs?’ ‘Uh no, no one with balls listens to your music.’” – Natasha Leggero on Chelsea Lately
I get that the “I’m A Belieber” nation is strong with a lot of buying power and Nicole by OPI is smart to partner with him but I can’t help but roll my eyes at it all. What does this kid have to do with nail polish? If you’re looking for a tween star to sell nail color there are a LOT of better options that make sense. Regardless, I’m sure it will sell out since the colors do look pretty and there’s a confetti heart glitter polish that will drive every little girl crazy.
Me + Blue, Step 2 The Beat Of My Heart, Give Me The First Dance, One Less Lonely Glitter, Prized Possession Purple, OMB!
The One Less Lonely Girl Collection from Nicole by OPI will launch in December 2010 at Walmart with these six shades. Another set of six will release in January 2011. After that the whole collection will be available at Sears, Target and ULTA in February 2011.
So what do you think? Will you be getting these polishes in spite of the Bieber association or because of it? Does it matter if a celebrity is involved as long as you like the colors?
