Ahem… Didn’t I Say NOT To Wear Polish…

When Robbing A Bank? Obviously, this woman does not read ALU or else she’d know that sporting painted tips ups your chances of getting caught when performing your everyday average bank robbery. Silly rabbit, you’d think someone with enough style to wear green polish would be smarter than that!

See: If You’re Planning To Rob A Bank…

Couple sought in robbery of SW Houston bank – Houston Chronicle

A man and woman remain at large after FBI agents said they robbed a bank this evening in southwest Houston.

The couple was together about 5:45 p.m. when they entered the Wells Fargo bank branch at 2824 Hillcroft.

The woman, described as a 5-2 tall with a small build, waited in line until she gave the teller a note demanding money. She also claimed to have a gun, officials said.

Fearing for her life, the teller handed over some of the cash from the register. The woman then left as her male partner held open the door for her, officials said.

No injuries were reported, FBI agents said.

The woman had long brown hair pulled into a ponytail and wore black and green nail polish. She wore an oversized white and black flannel jacket, a white shirt and blue jeans, FBI agents said.

Her partner was described as being 5-feet-6-inches to 5-feet-9-inches tall with a thin build. He wore glasses, had long sandy-brown hair, a mustache and goatee. He wore a black hooded sweatshirt with three white skulls printed on the chest, FBI agents said.

Crime Stoppers will offer up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of the bank robbers. Call 713-222-8477 (TIPS).

A Little Cruise Recap

Hey kids! I’m back! Did you miss me? I sure missed you. After a hellish two day travel nightmare (thanks Delta!) I finally made it back to the Cleveburg lacking one important thing… my luggage! Caught up in delays and switched flights, it took a whole extra day just to get our bags. What a joy! But I’m trying to put that behind me and remember the beautiful eight days we spent on the gorgeous Carnival Miracle.

What a trip! The boyfriend and I had the most wonderfully relaxing time cruising the southern Caribbean. We visited St. Maarten, St. Lucia and St. Kitts, met some fun people on board, drank way too many fruity tropical drinks and stuffed ourselves on all the delicious food.

If you’re interested in seeing some of the pics from our excursion, check ‘em out after the jump!

This was our third cruise on this class of ship so we were familiar with the layout but since each one is themed differently, it’s fun exploring to see all the over the top decor.

The Miracle’s theme is great fictional characters so each hall, elevator and room is named and decorated to represent a book or movie. Like Sam’s piano bar with its Moroccan influenced decor pays homage to Casablanca.

To celebrate our 10th anniversary of happily unmarried bliss, we ate dinner in Nick & Nora’s supper club. It costs extra but the food is spectacular, we’re talking 18 oz strip steaks & 12 oz lobster tails, and the ambiance is very romantic. Totally worth the extra cost. I just WISH I had brought my camera to snap a pic of dessert. It was this insane chocolate creation that I can’t even begin to describe. Yummo!

We spent three days in port and St. Maarten was our first stop. We’d been to St. Maarten before and did the whole shopping thing, so this time we just wanted to chill on the beach. We rented a couple chairs in Phillipsburg, played in the crystal blue waters and enjoyed the local Carib beer. So good!

Our next stop was St. Lucia and hearing the rumors that crazy Amy Winehouse was back on the island in all her outrageousness, I hoped for a sighting but we weren’t that lucky. Instead we embarked on a seven hour excursion touring the island that ended with a catamaran sail and swimming on a private beach.

We visited the banana plantations, the fishing village, the botanical gardens and ventured to Soufriere to view the Piton mountains, the larger of which is 3200 ft above sea level.

One of our stops was at St. Lucia’s drive in volcano. Due to a collapse in the volcano’s structure we were able to drive right up to the volcano’s center and view the steaming pools up close. The only downside… the STENCH!! OMG does that sulfur stink. It was almost too much. A cool thing to see but not to smell.

Our last port day was spent on St. Kitts. I LOVE St. Kitts. It’s so so beautiful. There are gorgeous beaches tucked in everywhere around the island. I would move there in a second if I could afford to. We made our way to Turtle Beach, a small stretch of the coast with a great bar, restaurant and as we found out later in the day… a goat.

Paco is the resident goat on Turtle Beach and as you can see, if you’re not careful, he’ll help himself to your drink. It was just juice, no alcohol so don’t go calling PETA.

There were plenty of characters on board as well. This poor kid was the subject of torture during the Battle of the Sexes game where we had to dress him up to look as crazy as possible. He was a great sport, no?

And what tropical vacay would be complete without a visit from There’s Something About Mary‘s Magda. I SWEAR, this woman was probably only 35/40 but from all the tanning she looked about a 100. It was scary. Made me want to slather on the SPF.

Oh and to amuse ourselves, we started counting french pedicures since they seemed to be running rampant on the ship. I wanted to attack them all with polish remover. Some of the whites were so thick, I had to look away. At final count, after 5 days, we saw 38 french pedis and that’s 38 too many in my opinion.

Now I don’t know you’re aware but one of the things Carnival is famous for are the origami towel animals that are left each night during turn down service. Your cabin steward turns down your bed, leaves a copy of the next day’s itinerary, a couple mints and a fun towel creation. My favorite is always the hanging monkey that was left on formal night with the elephant running a close second. Seriously, how cute are they?

Well kids, that’s my trip. It was great to be back in my own bed and see my kitties but I wouldn’t have cried if we had been stuck at sea a few extra days. But now that I’m back and rested, ALU will be back on its normal posting schedule and I have a TON of fun things to show you. Stay tuned!

Amazing Discoveries – The Nail Polish Pendant

Like infomercial legend, Mike Levy and his crazy sweaters, I have found THE discovery for us nail polish fanatics. Get out your Depends kids, you’re gonna need them.

How many times have we described a polish as being jewel-like or having a jewel tone? And I know I can’t be the only one who has tried to coordinate polish with my favorite gemstones. I mean, haven’t you ever wished your favorite shade was jewelry? Wish no more! My genius pal and fellow MUA’er Tracey from Ginger Kitty Designs has found a way to make that dream a reality. That’s right, we’re talking nail polish AS jewelry. Think I’m talking nonsense, read on to see what I mean.

Twitter followers and Facebook friends will recall my little freak out last Friday over a package I received in the mail. Wonder no more for this is what sent me into a frenzy. Tracey shipped her first batch of nail polish pendants, just in time for my cruise and needless to say, they’re stunning.

What exactly are these nail polish pendants? Well, Tracey discovered a way to encapsulate nail polish in a pendant. It’s sealed with a resin to give a glass like finish, making the polish appear like some rare, unique stone. Being the green queen that I am, Tracey turned two of my fave emerald shades into jewels using Barielle Date Night and Sinful San Francisco. Images really don’t do them justice as they are beyond fantabulous in person. I showed them off at work before leaving and everyone was raving.

Barielle Date Night

Sinful San Francisco

And finally, the special gem that Tracey has dubbed, The Happy Accident. While making a pendant using Sinful What’s Your Name? a drop of Sinful Green Ocean dripped on top, creating something totally unique. A happy accident indeed!
OK so are you totally dying for a nail polish pendant of your very own. Well then hop on over to Tracey’s Etsy shop, Ginger Kitty Designs where she has a listing of all the her pendant polish choices or you can discuss creating your own custom design.

All this amazingness for only $35. Can you even handle it? Rush on over and place an order today!

My Cruise Mani/Pedi Choice

It’s not the brightest, sunniest Florida day I’ve ever seen but I’m on vacation so I really could care less. I’ve had some sort of rum punch concoction, a couple of Labatts and I’m feeling good.

We just had our lifeboat drill which means we’ll be pulling away from port soon and my internet access will go buh-bye but I want to thank you all for voting to help me choose my mani/pedi shades for the next week on board. See what I colors I went with after the jump.

Warning… feet ahead!

First, here’s the boyfriend and I in our room when we first got on board. I don’t think I’ve ever shown him before so here’s Mr. ALU. We’re celebrating our tenth year of being happily unmarried and I hope the next ten are just as amazing.

So I’m not one to show my feet on the web and if you’re offended, I apologize in advance. For one, there’s too many fetishists that have emailed me wanting to see them (eww) and second I don’t want to look at anyone’s feet, even my own, so why subject the world to them, you know? But in the interest of sharing, here’s my first and only tips/toes pose.

I decided to take your advice and go with oranges. They look better with a tan and pair well with a lot of the clothes I brought. Originally I had planned to wear CND Kumquat Dahlia on my tips but opted for a shimmer since cremes tend to dull quicker.

My combo: China Glaze Orange Marmalade (toes) with China Glaze Breakin’ (tips). “What’s Breakin’?” you say. It’s one of the new Kicks shades and it just works so well with Orange Marmalade. Don’t you agree?

I also brought my bottle of Lippmann Nefertiti along for the two formal nights since there’s NO WAY I could go 8 days without changing my polish. I know my mom, a major gold freak, will be happy to hear that. She told me the morning we left that she voted for this combo along with the majority of you so for once we agree.

Well, I’m off to grab a drink and watch the ship take off. Ciao bellas!

Vacation… All I Ever Wanted

I’m on my way kids. The boyfriend and I are chillin’ in the Atlanta airport on a gloomy, rainy day waiting for our connection to sunny Florida. As per our usual travel ritual, I spent all last night packing and worrying about what I might forget (this time aloe). So I haven’t slept and am feeling a 3rd wind spurt of crazy energy coming on. The boyfriend is glued to his PSP and wishing he could fall asleep on flights (I pass out dead cold in minutes). Good times!

I just wanted to drop you all a quick note to let you know that while I’m going to be MIA in the Caribbean, ALU isn’t taking a break. Be sure to check back for the exclusive premiere of the China Glaze Kicks collection and an amazingly cool polish related discovery. There will be new What’s On Your Nails? and ALU Archives for your reading pleasure as well. And when I get to a sunnier locale, I’ll share my Vacay Mani/Pedi choice.

FYI I more than likely won’t have internet access on the ship starting Sunday night so I’ll catch up with your emails and comments when I return.

Have a fabulous week everyone. I’ll miss you all!
