As a compulsive hand washer/sanitizer I am always testing out new lotions and potions to keep my skin from resembling an alligator. And when I say compulsive, I once developed eczema from using too much Bath & Body Works hand sanitizer. I had to throw out all my bottles to kick the habit. So when I came across Vaseline’s Intensive Rescue line, I had to give the Healing Hand Cream a shot.

Filled with humectants and emollients this cream is thick but still easily squeezable. Even though it’s labeled as being hypoallergenic and unfragranced there is a faint smoky/musky scent. You really have to sniff your hand to notice it and why are you sniffing your hand anyway? The scent dissipates after about five minutes.

One of my biggest issues with hand lotions is greasiness. Don’t ask why but I always apply hand lotion when I’m driving. I KNOW I should have two hands on the wheel but I never said I was a model driver. Well as you can imagine, having greasy hands on a leather wheel isn’t a good combo. That makes fast absorbing lotions are a must.

On that point the Healing Hand Cream disappointed. It’s not super greasy but it does take a few minutes to absorb. Though thanks to the ingredient distearlydimonium chloride, a cationic emulsifier, it leaves a powdery finish that helps lock in moisture. That and the long lasting moisture are both pluses for me. I apply the cream each time I wash my hands and before bed and I never feel the need to reapply in between.

Considering the price point ($3-4) and level of moisture it provides I would recommend this cream as a good everyday moisturizer. It doesn’t have any anti-aging bells and whistles but it’s a good staple item.
