ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – Step by Step with Orly Sapphire Silk & Color Club Factory Girl
365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.Step by step, ooh baby, Gonna get to you girl Step by step, ooh baby, Really want you in my worldThat’s right Fanatics, I went to the NKOTBSB concert and I’m not one bit ashamed because it was AH-Mazing! Those boys, well men, sing and dance their asses off for over two hours to throngs of screaming fans and I was so happy to be one of them. It totally makes up for the fact that I never got to see them perform when I was a kid. For me, the best parts of the concert were seeing my darling Joey McIntyre, who rocked some multi-colored nails the last time they were on tour, sing “Please Don’t Go Girl”, Donnie Wahlberg revealing his rock hard abs and Nick Carter sporting a LeBron James “Choke” t-shirt. Though I couldn’t help but notice that AJ McLean was wearing black crackle on his nails (see here). I went with two of my CLE blogger pals, Suzanne & Allison, and we had a blast dancing and singing the whole night. My ears are still ringing! While I enjoyed Backstreet Boys, I was really there for New Kids On The Block so I had to do a NKOTB themed manicure which I dedicate to Joey and his stunning baby blues. I chose a pale blue, Color Club Factory Girl, to match his eyes and a darker, grittier hue, Orly Sapphire Silk, to represent his “Hangin Tough” Boston background. I also failed at my attempt at nail art using Milani Nail Art polish in Blue Print. |
ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – CND Creamy Cameo Nail Polish
365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.Before we talk polish, I want to let you know that the issues that have been plaguing the comment section and “read more” link have been fixed. Thanks to reader meme, who alerted to me the scope of the problem, I was able to have the issues resolved today. I suggest you do a hard reset of your browser if you still see the glitches.
Also, I encourage you to please email me or send a comment if you notice a site error. I won’t see a problem in the comments from my end so I rely on all of you to let me know if there is something wrong. Thank you! So with all that out of the way, I decided to go for a fresh, clean look today. In an interview I gave for USA Today about nail trends I recommended some great beige neutrals including CND Perfectly Bare, which you all know I love. The thing is, Perfectly Bare is a bit too peachy for some plus it’s a limited edition color so I looked for a permanent shade that is cool complexion friendly and came up with CND Creamy Cameo. |
ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – L’Oreal Blue Marine Nail Polish

I only own one bottle of L’Oreal Paris nail polish and it didn’t come in to my collection until this past spring. Why is that? For starters, their core lineup of colors are so the opposite of me (pinks, reds, neutrals) that I never give it a second glance. Second, when I do happen to see some more fun colors, they usually resemble something I’ve seen somewhere else. I’m looking at you Passport to Paradise, aka Essie North Fork dupes. However, L’Oreal Blue Marine caught my eye on the seasonal makeup display shelf because of the duo-chrome promise made by a flash of blue-violet in the bottle. Let’s see if it delivered on that promise, shall we? |
ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – RGB Cosmetics “1996″ Need Supply Co
365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.
When the boyfriend & I bought our house a few years ago, we started a tradition of hosting Un-Xmas parties. You see, I’m not big on Christmas but wanted to throw a party around the holidays with no presents, white elephant gift exchanges, decorations or goofy sweaters. And so Un-Xmas was born. Well now that we have our keg fridge and a fresh keg of Christmas Ale, we decided to inaugurate the Un-Xmas in July party. The party is today and since dressing for the occasion means no holiday themed items, that includes my nails. I recently got my hands on a new shade from RGB Cosmetics called 1996, created to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Need Supply Co. and it seems like the perfect un-holiday shade. |
ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – An Accent Nail Manicure with Lippmann Lara’s Theme and Orly Frisky
365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.
I’ve been doing quite a few interviews lately for various publications about summer and fall nail trends. Of course we know that crackle is EVERYWHERE, nail art isn’t dying out anytime soon and neutrals have been making a resurgence. But what I find funny is when looks that are pretty much “old hat” in the nail community end up being the “new” hot trend. I was recently asked by the Style Network’s StyleSpy about the “new” celebrity accent nail trend and the best ways to wear the look. Of course, this isn’t exactly a new look but since so many celebrities have been rocking the accent nail it’s now a thing. My advice has always been to look for contrasting or complementary color combos. Black & white, purple and gold, lime and fuchsia, etc. For this summer my favorite combination is orange & blue or teal & coral, so I rummaged my untrieds to create a fun accent nail manicure and came up with Deborah Lippmann Lara’s Theme and Orly Frisky. |
