ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – OPI Grape…Set…Match & Servin’ Up Silver from the OPI Glam Slam! England Collection

opi grape set match and servin up sparkle nail polish from the opi serena glam slam england 2011 collection 365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.

The other day when I shared The Painted Nail’s Legendary Lavender I received a few questions asking how it compares to the latest OPI Glam Slam! England release, OPI Grape…Set…Match. At the time I had played with the color a bit but hadn’t taken it for a full test drive so I figured today was a great day for that.

Released to coincide with Serena Williams’ next big Grand Slam tournament, Wimbledon, the newest OPI Glam Slam! releases take us to England and add a new top coat element to the party. Rather than a new Shatter, the Glam Slam! England duos come with Servin’ Up Sparkle, a holographic glitter top coat.

According to OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, “England’s premier tennis tournament warrants colors with extra glitz and glamour. The next big trend in nails is making lacquer look 3-dimensional by adding different micas and glitters, turning fingertips into jewelry. With two bold metallics and a sparkling glitter, these colors are fit for royalty.”

ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – Orly Bubbly Bombshell & Here Comes Trouble from the Orly Pin-Up Collection

orly here comes trouble and orly bubbly bombshell nail polish from the orly pin-up collection for summer 2011 365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.Dear Glitter Polishes,

Why can’t I quit you? You’re such a pain to remove that the dread sets in before the first stroke of polish hits the nail. Yet, like a magpie, every time I see a bottle I want to snatch it up and take it home to my stash. You’re clearly my crack because when the high wears off, I’m just left with thoughts of the removal process looming overhead. In spite of all that, I love you. And if loving you is wrong, I don’t want to be right.

XOXO, ALU

The glitter craving struck again when I spotted the display for the Orly Pin-up collection at my local CVS. The four piece collection includes two cremes that I barely noticed. My eyes darted straight to Here Comes Trouble (l) and Bubbly Bombshell (r). For today’s untrieds manicure I decided to combine them into one summery sparkle spectacular.

ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – Revlon Vixen

revlon vixen nail polish a known chanel vamp dupe 365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.

Back when the Makeup Alley Nail Board first started, one of its members started a list of “known dupes.” Revlon Vixen was one of the first on the list as a twin for the original Chanel Vamp, not the shimmery version that it became.

Now I had been wanting a bottle of Vamp ever since it first appeared on Uma Thurman’s nails in Pulp Fiction but, at the time, Chanel was not in my budget. So I ran out and bought a bottle of Vixen and it has literally sat in my collection ever since. At the time it wasn’t necessarily a color I was into, it was more that I just needed to own it. Since then, I guess I’ve just forgotten about it. So much for that “need” I thought I had.

Outside of its dupe status, Vixen is a staple shade in its own right. One of those classics that most nail fanatics have. Here’s the deal though. My bottle is probably seven years old but since it’s unopened you would think it would be fine to use. Um, not so much. What a disaster of bubbles. I actually went out to buy a new bottle of Vixen just to see if it is worthy of stashing. So if I say “share” that will be two bottles worth of money I’ll have wasted.
