ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – Dashing Diva Tibi Couture
365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.
One of my favorite things about Fashion Week is when the nail brands and designers come together to create custom mixes. Whether it’s to match a swatch of fabric or an inspirational image, I am always inspired to come home and franken up a new color or two. Every so often, one of those backstage blends makes it into production which saves my mixing bottles for other creations. That was the case with Dashing Diva Tibi Couture. At last year’s Fall 2010 runway show, Tibi’s Amy Smilovic requested a greyed mushroom hue for her model’s nails and Dashing Diva’s Pattie Yankee came up with the perfect mix. |
ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – Nina Ultra Pro Never Glum Plum
365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.
While I love to shop, I tend to avoid actually going to stores as much as possible. You see, those “impulse buy” items were put in the checkout lane for me. I get easily distracted by something shiny and new and snap it up without even thinking about whether I need it. For that reason alone, I prefer to shop online. I find I’m much more methodical in my purchases that way. Nina Ultra Pro Never Glum Plum is a casualty of one of my frenetic Sally Beauty shopping sprees, as are a lot of my untrieds. Even though I own Chanel Paradoxal and various clones I still felt the impulse to buy this polish after reading about it on my friend Steph’s blog. You know, just to see for myself. Oh the excuses I’ll make to justify my purchase. Long story short, the polish I just had to have that day has sat, untouched, for months and months… until now. |
ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – Nails Inc St John’s Wood
365 of Untrieds is my personal challenge to weed through the polishes in the ALU stash that I’ve been wanting to try but just haven’t gotten around to.
While I had heard of Nails Inc for quite some time from international Fanatics, it wasn’t until I went to Cosmoprof in Las Vegas a couple years ago, that I actually got to see the polishes in person. At the show I met reps for the brand, drooled over their limited edition, crystal encrusted caps and discovered their amazing Kensington Caviar 45 Second Top Coat. However, until now I haven’t really worn their polishes. Before last summer Nails Inc were pretty hard to acquire here in the US. Unless you found a British e-tailer willing to ship here (ASOS no longer does) or had a friend overseas, it wasn’t happening. While you still can’t find the brand sold on a US website, you can get your hands on Nails Inc polishes at Henri Bendel stores, so that’s something. For today’s 365 I decided I wanted to wear a fun pop of color since I’m going to see Jo Koy, from Chelsea Lately, tonight and I’m wearing mostly black. Nails Inc St John’s Wood is the perfect choice. |
ALU’s 365 of Untrieds – Essence Pool Party

Have you ever spotted a nail polish line that is so inexpensive you can only assume that it has to be a waste of money? Well, that’s what I thought the first time I heard of the Essence Colour & Go line carried at ULTA. I mean, how great can a nail polish be when it’s priced UNDER A DOLLAR?!? Well, I finally bit the bullet and decided to order some colors from the line last Summer but even after they arrived, the bottles looked so cheap and tiny that I felt no immediate need to try them. Today I put this budget brand to the test when I took Essence Pool Party for a spin. |
