Estee Lauder Holiday 2010 Nails – Extravagant Pearl & Extravagant Night
The Estee Lauder Holiday 2010 collection is filled with rich golds and reds that sound like your typical holiday fare but thanks to Creative Makeup Director Tom Pecheux, these traditional shades were given a glamorous twist.
“Fantasy, luxury and of course femininity were my inspirations for this Holiday collection. There are many lip and eye colors to play with and they all have a wonderful texture for an easy application.” Tom Pecheux, Creative Makeup Director, Estée Lauder It’s been a while since an Estee Lauder nail polish has really grabbed me but Extravagant Night brings a sultry party to the nails. And its pale gold counterpart, Extravagant Pearl, is the shade we saw gracing the Derek Lam runway just last month at New York Fashion Week. |
OPI Katy Perry Collection Preview
OPI also revealed info on their Katy Perry collaboration today. Can I just say that I’m so happy to see OPI finally embracing social media and not pretending a collection doesn’t exist until the day it launches in stores? In this collection, the colors range from a confectionery pink to a bold blue that seemed to be pulled straight from Katy’s California Gurls video.
From left to right: Last Friday Night, Not Like the Movies, The One That Got Away, Teenage Dream and Black Shatter.
It’s obvious that the glitter party is nowhere near over in nail world. After all the Deborah Lippmann and China Glaze Holiday glitters plus the OPI Alice & Burlesque sparklers the train to Glitter Town won’t be reaching the end of the line anytime soon.
What are your thoughts on these? Are they what you would expect from a collection involving Katy Perry? Do you think that OPI including “Shatter” polishes in two collections means that we’re going to get inundated with crackle from the other major polish brands? Will you give into the cracked polish effect?
UPDATE: Thanks to the readers who pointed out that OPI posted a video on YouTube showing the colors and shatter effect
OPI Serena Williams Grand Slam Preview – Simply Smashing
OPI brings us a peek at the first duo from the Serena Williams Grand Slam collection. This set is the first of four and will release in January to coincide with the Australian Open. The duo includes the metallic green, Simply Smashing, paired with OPI’s first crackle polish, Black Shatter.
The green looks like a sister to NARS Mash so I’ll be curious to see how it compares. The “shatter” polish is not what comes to mind when I think of crackle polish. It’s much more sparse and chunky.
I wonder if this means that all of the Serena Grand Slam duos will include a different “Shatter” color. What do you think?

Katy Perry’s Avant-Garde Lace Nails
When Katy Perry posted “Glove tip lace nails anyone?” on Twitter yesterday along with this pic I knew that Celebrity Manicurist Kimmie Kyees had to be involved and I was right. We’ve seen lace used to cover the entire nail before but this is something new. Kimmie shared that these nails were created for a photo shoot but she couldn’t reveal which one so be on the lookout as Kimmie is hoping they make the cover!
Get The Look: “She wanted beige so I used nail tips from Broadway Nails and polished them in China Glaze polishes; Modern Elegance topped Nude. What an amazing shade that combination created.”
“I took out my lace and noticed the V shape. I decided to cut along the V’s and place it in the polish from the cuticles towards the free edge. Leaving the lace on the end came to me after I placed it. I tried the tips on myself and loved the effect. When I showed [the people from the magazine] what they looked like on, they were relived and impressed! Luckily Katy and the rest of the glam squad agreed it looked fantastic. Katy said she loved them!”
China Glaze Modern Elegance is a discontinued color from the Urban Chic/Platinum series but I did find it on eBay and Victoria Nail Supply. China Glaze Nude also looks to be dc’d but it’s available on eBay and VNS as well.
What do you think of this look on Katy? I’m thinking it could be something fun to try for a Halloween costume, like a gothic bride or something. Would you wear this nails and for what occasion? Have you tried incorporating lace into your nail style?

As a woman, a daughter and a friend I am taking a stand for Breast Cancer Awareness by supporting Living Beyond Breast Cancer with my annual Comments For A Cure campaign.
Comments For A Cure started out in 2007 as a grassroots effort to support a fellow Beauty Blog Network member who was diagnosed with cancer. I have taken it upon myself to continue supporting the cause here on ALU.
All Lacquered Up’s Comments For A Cure campaign launches TODAY, October 20th, 2010.
Please join me in the fight against breast cancer by leaving a comment on any post on All Lacquered Up today through Friday, October 22nd. Every comment will raise $1 for Living Beyond Breast Cancer up to a maximum of $150. That’s right, you leave a comment, I donate. What could be easier?
Also, don’t forget about all the amazing prizes you could win in the Think Pink – Donate & Win Giveaway. I’m so amazed by the immense generosity of the ALU community as we’ve already raised over $1400!! That’s almost DOUBLE last year’s donation. Thank you all for your continued support. I love you all!
