NYFW SS11 – What’s In That Bag? My Backstage Essentials

Covering NYFW means running from show to show, away from your hotel room the entire day and traveling between locations all over town.  That means your handbag needs to hold your life.  To make sure I have everything I need for a day backstage and attending shows a large handbag is a necessity.

But here’s the thing, as much as I love purses and covet ones from Marc Jacobs, Chanel, etc., when it comes to Fashion Week I go for cheap and destroyable because I know this baby is going to get a workout.  I know people, like my roomie Nancy, who prefer to go the quality route but I’m just too afraid of seeing a cup of coffee spill all over me.  This rings especially true after seeing not one, but two nail polish catastrophes backstage.  The mess that comes from a bottle hitting concrete is not something I want an expensive handbag near.

ALU NYFW NOTD Challenge SS11 – Day 4

lippmann-today-was-a-fairytale-dashing-diva-penthouse-views Oh hello there!  I didn’t forget about the challenge.  I’ve just been running around NYC like a madwoman.  I returned late Wednesday night and literally slept my Thursday away.  A week of only sleeping four hours a night will do that to you.  I could actually crawl into bed right now, I’m that tired.

Not that you want to hear about any of that.  I was having an absolutely fabulous time so a little sleep deprivation is a small price to pay.  So Day 4 for me was Sunday.  It’s always one of my fave days at NYFW because it kicks off with the triple threat beauty team of Deborah Lippmann, Sarah Lucero from Stila and Ted Gibson backstage at Lela Rose.

Since I knew I’d be seeing Deb, I concocted a layering combo using her holiday color Today Was A Fairytale.  I’ve been pretty obsessed with it ever since I wore it to an Emmy watching party.  This time instead of using a pale blue underneath I opted for something a little more industrial and gritty, the new Dashing Diva Penthouse Views from their fall color collection.

fashions-night-out-september-2010 Fashion’s Night Out, as Nancy from Beauty411 would say, was a cluster!  I chose to go to SoHo and I think every other person on the planet was there.  Seriously, cars couldn’t get down the street because people were standing twenty deep outside a store just to get a glimpse of a celebrity.

With over 900 events at stores all over New York City, trying to figure out a game plan was a challenge to say the least.  Of course I KNEW I was going to the new Chanel SoHo Boutique, how could I not, but the rest of the night was up in the air.

With my friend, and roommate, Nancy at my side we trekked all over SoHo marveling at the crowds and accidentally stumbling across one of my Top 29 events of the night.  Read on to find out all about my Fashion’s Night Out adventure with Chanel, Essie and MAC.

Deborah Lippmann Spring & Summer 2011 Preview

deborah-lippmann-spring-summer-2011 As a Deborah Lippmann fangirl one of the highlights of New York Fashion Week is getting to chat with her backstage.  She always has a great color story to tell and seems genuinely excited to see me.  I’m not going to lie, it makes me feel like a bit of a rock star.  She really knows how to make a girl feel special.  It’s really no wonder she has such a celebrity following.

I’ve had the chance to catch up with Deb at both the ADAM and Lela Rose runway shows and was able to get a preview of her new nail colors for Spring and Summer 2011.  Curious to see what she cooked up?  Find out after the jump!

maybelline-fall-fashion-week-runway-collection The days are getting longer people and I’m in serious need of sleep but I’m powering through New York Fashion Week like a champ.  Even though my feet want to go on strike, the humidity is having its way with my hair and I can’t seem to remember what day it is, I’m having an absolute blast.  I figure I can sleep when I get home so I may as well make the most of my time here and I’ve been doing just that.

Saturday was Day 3 of my NYFW experience and I was feeling the need to keep my green streak going.  After rocking RBL Anne and Chanel Khaki Vert it was time for something dark and creamy.   Enter Maybelline Grand In Green.  But what fun is wearing just one color when you’re at Fashion Week?  I pulled in GiG’s collection sibling, Gray-T Glamour for a funky but easy to replicate manicure.  Check it!
