ALU NYFW NOTD Challenge – Day 2

nyfw-notd-challenge-day-two In addition to it being my first full day covering Fashion Week shows, yesterday was also Fashion’s Night Out.  I can’t even begin to describe the madness.  I’ve never seen so many people in one place who have NO CLUE there is anyone else anywhere around them.  It’s like everyone walks in their own bubble of oblivion.  When you can’t even get out of the subway because people are standing 12 deep on a sidewalk, you know it’s bad.

That being said, I was not deterred from my original NOTD plan for FNO.  I did a manicure using the Chanel Les Khakis De Chanel colors and visited the redesigned Chanel SoHo Boutique.  I’ll be sharing a full FNO recap in a separate post but first up my nail look for Day 2.

ALU NYFW NOTD Challenge – SS 2011 Day 1

That’s right Fanatics.  I’m attempting my bi-annual NYFW NOTD Challenge.  I’m challenging myself to change my nail color every day of Fashion Week no matter how tired and worn out I am.

NOTD Challenge lesson learned… DON’T apply nail polish less than hour before you leave for the airport. Why? Because no matter how quick drying your top coat is, you’re going to wreck yourself. Case in point, moi!

I have this travel ritual. I never sleep the night before a trip. I’m always up doing laundry, packing, clearing out the DVR, etc. Totally random stuff including giving myself a manicure. In a perfect world I would be more organized but I’m always so afraid I’ll forget something that I stay up all night crossing every “t” and dotting every “i” on my packing list.

That pretty much sums up my Wednesday night as I prepared for my early morning flight to NYC. Usually I do my manicure way earlier in the evening so it’s set and dry by the time I leave but this time, not so much. I thought an hour would be good enough but even using my beloved Olan Quick & Slick top coat I ended up eff’ing up my manicure with Rescue Beauty Lounge Anne before I even got to the airport. Picking up my bag, that barely weighed in under 50 lbs, I completely biffed the nails on my left hand. UGH! An entire day spent backstage and with other editors having them look at my janky nails. Good times!

I mean, just look at that mess. Embarrassing! Fortunately I didn’t have a ton on my plate yesterday. Just two shows, nothing major, and I hid my left hand from the world. The sucky part was that I wore Anne knowing I’d be seeing Ji from RBL and it’s a good thing she sat to my right since that hand still looked flawless! All I can say is that I was very happy to come back to my room with an excuse for a polish change.

Rescue Beauty Lounge Anne goes on sale at RescueBeauty.com later this month for $18/bottle. Pre-orders will ship out then as well.

FYI, this shot isn’t a great color representation. This is more for show & tell purposes. To see Anne in all her glory check out my RBL Fall 2010 review.

This just in! While the CND team is working away prepping the models at Jason Wu we get word of a collaboration between the designer & CND.

Fashion designer Jason Wu is collaborating with runway manicure leader CND to introduce a limited edition Jason Wu Collection that honors iconic women through wearable, timeless shades. The set will come with 4 Colours and 1 Effect that can be layered to achieve the designer’s effortless yet elegant nail styles.

“Every season I play with different ways of using color in my collection, so it was a natural choice to collaborate with CND on a capsule of nail colors that reflects my aesthetics. Included in the set is my signature gray color,” says Jason Wu.

These fabulously femme Colours provide rich coverage and everyday accessibility:

Miss Wu – Jason’s signature limestone, warm gray that dries matte with subtle chrome sheen, in perfect harmony of masculinity and femininity

Brigitte – voluptuous warm pink that perfectly channels 50′s screen siren

Sophia – gorgeous mushroom taupe

Veronica – highlights the evolution of decadence with a blue-based, oxblood red

Anna Effect – layered over any of the four Colours provides a tweed finish via microscopic fibrous pieces that create cool, subtle texture

CND’s Torrie Savickis posted this pic via her Twitter.

Jason Wu and CND have joined forces on the runway for the past eight seasons. This color collection is Jason Wu’s first foray into nail products, and CND’s first designer product partnership. The full collection will be introduced at Jason Wu’s Spring 2011 runway show where audience members will receive a complimentary set.

The Jason Wu Collection will be available for purchase in salons and via CND.com in May 2011. Suggested retail price is $47. The collection will be sold globally while supplies last.

I don’t know exactly what a “tweed effect” will look like but I know I want it!  What say you?

NYFW SS11 – Backstage at Ruffian with CND & MAC

ruffian-ss10-nyfw-mbfw-cnd Ruffian is not just a clothing line, it’s now part of the lacquer lexicon.  Last season’s ridiculously popular moon manicure from the Ruffian FW runway with its matte blue base and chrome gold moon set the nail world a flutter.  Dubbed the Ruffian Manicure, numerous blogs have shared their take of CND’s creation.  I especially loved Lacquerized’s matte & glossy version (she posted a fab step-by-step).

Fast forward to Spring/Summer ’11Ruffian and CND have done it again.  This season they go for a very French full moon manicure that includes colored tips as well.  I remember spying a similar look using pastels on the Christian Dior couture runway in 2007 which I believe CND created as well.

I landed in NYC bright and early this morning to gloomy skies & wind but even with no sleep I’m a ball of energy because it’s Fashion Week!!

I dropped my bag at my hotel and pretty much ran stright to Lincoln Center to cover backstage at Ruffian. The nails were insane! Another hit moon manicure from CND. Details to follow.

I’m checking out the new venue here at Lincoln Center and it is gorgeous.  Here are a few quick cell phone shots of the venue for you.
