Q&A – Reader Request for BMW M Symbol Color Match
I’m flashing the bat signal Fanatics. A reader contacted me in hopes of discovering a polish to match the iris blue in the BMW M Symbol (pictured right) and I’m stumped.
I thought for sure I’d have a match and now that I don’t I’m obsessed with obtaining that color. I mean how gorg is that? Reader S already found polish twins for the other two colors, China Glaze China Rouge & Shower Together now she’s on the hunt for a deep periwinkle creme to complete the set. Though maybe it’s just my monitor but I think that Barielle Swizzle Stick would be a better match for the bright blue. |
I scoured the ALU Gallery and I’m thinking a darker version of Orly Cashmere Cardigan or China Glaze Secret Peri-winkle would be ideal. Anyone know of such a shade? Help a fellow Fanatic out!

Are you ready to kick off the holiday weekend with a blingasm? I know I am!! I told you back in February that for the second half of 2010 Deborah Lippmann is hosting a glitter spectacular and it all starts with her Fall 2010 collection. I’ve always been a lukewarm Beatles fan. I own a few albums but I don’t live and die for them. Then the movie musical Across The Universe came out and I was smitten. Who knew Jim Sturgess could belt it out? The dreamy, mermaid-esque blue glitter baring the same name is a perfect fit for the trippy, lullaby sounding tune and the whimsical film. Meanwhile the black-based magenta glitter, Bad Romance, is both hard-edge and feminine much like Lady Gaga. |

Coco Chanel’s iconic style was a study in contrasts. She boldly mixed black and white, masculine and feminine, classic and modern. A math and science girl like me could never have imagined a career as a blogger. As a Chemical Engineering major, I dropped out of Freshman English three times. True story! Keeping the emphasis on the eyes and nails, Peter Philips has mixed dark and stormy with sweet and feminine and the star of the show for me is Paradoxal, a grey violet shade that the wordsmiths at AOL StyleList have dubbed “griolet.” |
New York Magazine’s Nail Polish Shop-A-Matic Featuring ALU’s Summer Faves
Fanatics I have some fun news to share. Last year I raved about New York Magazine’s Shop-A-Matic feature and how much I loved that they did one focusing on nail polish. Well this year, Editor Diana Tsui invited me to be a guest editor selecting my favorite colors of the season to be included in their comprehensive listing. Talk about a thrill and a challenge. Narrowing down my top picks for Summer 2010 to a short list of 19 was no small feat.
If you haven’t browsed the NY Mag Shop-A-Matic in the past you’re missing out. Each polish is shown in the bottle, on the nail and as a color blob. They also include shopping information for the NYC area and online availability.
