American Apparel Nail Lacquer Swatches & Review

american apparel nail lacquer nail polish bottles Say what you will about American Apparel clothes or ad campaigns but where nail polish is involved they hit a home run.  Last winter the brand introduced their collection of Nail Lacquers and they certainly didn’t play it safe.  Any brand that kicks off with multiple blues and greens automatically scores points in my book.

As I reported, there was a recall due to a bottle issue but to AA’s credit they rectified the situation in a timely manner.  Prior to that I was sent a few polishes by the brand for review but I was only into one of the colors.

I’ve been meaning to hop over to my local American Apparel store to pick up the more “me” shades but I really hate the parking sitch in that area so I couldn’t drag myself over there just for polish until recently.  I know that makes me a bad polish fanatic and believe me, I’m totally kicking myself for waiting so long.  See why after the jump!

SpaRitual Kaleidoscope Collection Swatches, Review & Comparisons

sparitual kaleidoscope collection nail polish bottles SpaRitual is unleashing a rainbow of color on us with their upcoming release, the Kaleidoscope Collection.  A set of twelve hot shades that include everything from bright white to neon pink and dark purple in a range of finishes.

As much as I’ve been digging the blue, green and yellow pastels that have come out recently I’m really happy to see a collection that is pastel-free.  This entire collection is filled with bold hues which seems a bit unusual for SpaRitual. They tend to mix more conservative, serene colors with their unique creations but this collection is anything but safe.

I have six of the twelve shades to show you so check them out after the jump!

Where To Find CND Shellac

cnd-shellac-hybrid-nail-color Ever since I reviewed CND Shellac, that has been your number one inquiry.  I can’t tell you how many emails I’ve received from fellow Fanatics all over the world desperate to try it.  You have no idea how I wish I could help you all but I don’t even know where to find Shellac in Cleveland let alone the rest of the globe.

Here’s the thing… Shellac hasn’t even officially launched yet.  There are a handful of salons around the country that have been trained to perform the service but for the majority of the world, it doesn’t start shipping until May.  Also because it is a salon service, it’s not as simple as just carrying the product.  The technicians have to be trained before using it.  So how do you find Shellac in your area?

Unfortunately, the answer is you have to hunt down a salon on your own.

Use the Find A Salon search on CND.com.  The search engine lists names of manicurists in your area who are trained on CND products and which ones they use.  Because Shellac is so new I didn’t see it listed on anyone in my area so I suggest calling names off the list to see if they will be using Shellac.  If they aren’t, perhaps receiving calls inquiring about the product will encourage them to use it.

Personally, I’m hoping that Cleveland’s own rock star manicurist, Julie Kandalec, will start using Shellac at Jennifer & Co. in Mentor (hint hint to Julie!) because I’m really looking forward to trying it on my toes and thanks to the new CND UV lamp that can fit a whole hand/foot I should be able to!

***EDITED TO ADD - The CND website has a Shellac Salon Locator now. Give it a try.  Also, use just your state to search, no city/zip code, since it doesn’t list the radius of the search. ***

My First (and LAST) Water Marble Manicure

water marble manicure technique, nail marbling I should really call this manicure “An Afternoon of Frustration” because that’s how trying to create a water marble manicure left me feeling; FRUSTRATED!  Those of you who have mastered the technique, I bow down to you.  I honestly have no desire to try this ever again but since I made the effort, I thought I’d share my experience  with you.

A few years back when China Glaze introduced the OMG! holographic collection, they posted a tutorial for their “Color Swirl” manicure and I was intrigued but intimidated by the process.  Since then a whole mess of YouTubers have made countless water marble tutorials including lots of great tips and tricks to make the technique easier.  I found myself watching a few this morning and got inspired.

Find out more about the water marble technique and my adventure trying to recreate the look after the jump!
