alu-archives The ALU Archives focuses on older, beloved shades from the All Lacquered Up stash.Talking about Illamasqua’s new colors yesterday reminded me that I had never showed you one of my fave shades from their core collection, Phallic.  First of all, you gotta love the name.  Like my blogging pal Mel with her Penis Tuesday series, I love a fun penis reference.  I even won a knit, purple, penis-shaped lip balm holder (link NSFW!) from her site. The fact that Phallic is a stunning blue shimmer makes it all the better.  Check out the gorgeousness after the jump!

Chanel Particulière, Inattendu & Tendresse Swatches & Review

le-impressions-de-chanel-particuliere The palette for the Spring 2010 Chanel collection, Les Impressions de Chanel, is all about chic, wearable neutrals.  Creative Director Peter Philips wanted to honor Coco Chanel’s legacy of creating classic, timeless pieces with a wardrobe of color that never goes out of style.Included in the collection are three new Le Vernis nail lacquers including Particulière, Tendresse and Inattendu.  You may recall the frenzy that erupted when Particulière was spotted on the Chanel Spring 2010 runway.  We all wondered, is it a khaki, grey, mushroom, dusty purple, mauve?  Would it just end up being a You Don’t Know Jacques knockoff?  See for yourself after the jump!

Mannequin Hands with OPI Barefoot in Barcelona

Mannequin Hands is a new series featuring ALU Fanatics showing off their “mannequin hands” shade. The one polish that best gives that elongated, flesh-toned look to their hands.

Helen from Helen & Sheenie’s Nice Things is showing off her mannequin hands using OPI Barefoot in Barcelona which she describes as “a kind of dark, muted pink, with a bit of brown and salmon thrown in for good measure.” Since she’s not a MAC girl, Helen doesn’t have a skin tone description to include.

A Lace Nail Tutorial

lace-nails-elle-barielle I’m sure you remember seeing these amazing lace nails created by Celebrity Manicurist Elle.  I posted about the lace nail trend back in September when Blake Lively and Jennifer Lopez were spotted wearing the look.  Scratch Magazine loved it so much, they featured it on their December cover.

Since then I’ve seen various tutorials pop up on YouTube but none of them have looked as good or been as detailed as this one by LovelyInstinct so I thought I’d share. She uses a different method than Elle in that she applies a base coat of color underneath the lace and a lot more products. Those of you that aren’t a fan of seeing your natural nail through the lace, this is a great alternative.

To recap, these are Elle’s instructions:
1. Start with a clean nail  2. Brush on Gel Resin  3. Pick a thin Parisian piece of lace and attach   4. Spray with Glue Dry  5. Cut and shape using an embroidery scissor   6. Re-Resin  7. To remove, soak in acetone

Have any of you tried lace nails yet? Do you have any application tricks or tips? If you’re not a DIY gal, would you request this look from your manicurist?
